This paper introduces an assessment plan developed in the School of Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to gather evidence on student learning outcomes through both internal and external stakeholders over a complete cycle. A number of surveys for different stakeholders are purposefully aligned to allow comparison between the two cohorts of students as well as among students, faculty, and employers. Assessment rubrics are systematically developed and embedded in all surveys and the assessment of capstone experience to facilitate a meaningful interpretation of results.","PeriodicalId":407302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Teaching, Assessment, and Learning for Engineering (TALE) 2012","volume":"100 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131541016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research is based on theory of planned behavior (TPB) and empirical data of 411 engineering students from three universities. The results reveal that, no matter students took an entrepreneurship course or not, there are significant differences in entrepreneurial intentions between students with and without role models like entrepreneurial parents, relatives or friends. In other words, our local entrepreneurship courses do not compensate for the lacking of role models. Implications for designing new entrepreneurship courses will be explored.","PeriodicalId":407302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Teaching, Assessment, and Learning for Engineering (TALE) 2012","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128368534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The possibility of access to a superior education is on hands of a great number of students while the resources which are available do not increase in the same way, limiting the quality of the teaching, so, it is necessary to look for alternatives that insure an access to the resources of a way regular, monitored an efficient. The remote laboratories avoid these gaps, however the development of these laboratories is of a great cost and their application is very specific. The fact of adding virtual information to the observed results by the students increases the quantity of information, provides us a great absorption of the contents and an expansion of the case studies. That is why it is possible to add the answer to questions like why this happens, or what would happen if the conditions of the experiment were different. The augmented reality provides an easy way to control a remote laboratory, creating a realist, simple and practical interface from any place in the world. To achieve the objectives mentioned above, this document shows how you can control a remote laboratory with augmented reality.","PeriodicalId":407302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Teaching, Assessment, and Learning for Engineering (TALE) 2012","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128769736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in the past researches, there are few attentions paid on constructing the personal concept map for diagnosing learner's learning status. Actually, it is difficult to construct the individual concept maps to reflect the real knowledge structure by learners themselves. To cope with this problem, in our previous study, we proposed an approach employing the standard concept map from expert, correlative test-items structure and formulated questions to construct the personal concept map automatically [8]. But there were still some problems remained in [8]. In this study, we further propose different work to advance the mentioned problems. It not only modifies tests to be with more varieties, but also makes the proposed personal concept map constructing approach more completely and with effectiveness. The contribution of this study is to construct an enhanced personal concept map automatically according to the test result, to diagnose the learning barriers and to provide a suggestion of remedial learning paths as feedback for learners.","PeriodicalId":407302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Teaching, Assessment, and Learning for Engineering (TALE) 2012","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128590711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
