This paper proposes a centralized subcarrier allocation scheme with associated power allocation mechanism for underlay multi-user orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MU-OFDM) taking into consideration the interference and rate loss that the PU can tolerate. The main target of the proposed scheme is to efficiently distribute the available subcarriers among cognitive users to maximize the cognitive network throughput while preserving the QoS for the PUs. The proposed algorithm achieves a significantly higher CR network throughput than that of the conventional interference power constraint IPC based schemes and the achieved throughput significantly increases as the number of CR users increases. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves a good performance in terms of fairness and spectrum efficiency.","PeriodicalId":406498,"journal":{"name":"2017 Japan-Africa Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (JAC-ECC)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123099850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This antenna designed and fabricated on leather material as substrate to operate over frequency band (2–12 GHz). The dielectric constant εr = 1.79, and loss tangent tanδ = 0.042 of the leather substrate are measured by using two different methods. This antenna is integrated with three strip lines for performance enhancement. Also, the SAR calculations for this antenna are performed on-body environments to ensure that operate properly in the nearness of the human body.","PeriodicalId":406498,"journal":{"name":"2017 Japan-Africa Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (JAC-ECC)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124197694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Stability, accuracy, simple structure, low power consumption compared to conventional methods such as Costas loop, are the main features provided by the proposed system. Different simulations using the Matlab program indicate that, the proposed system decreases the phase estimation time, and lowers the bit error rate (BER) compared to conventional method. The proposed architecture implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) board. The implementation results indicate, that the proposed system reduced the power consumption by 28%, and works at a clock frequency faster by 67%, compared to traditional Costas loop architecture.","PeriodicalId":406498,"journal":{"name":"2017 Japan-Africa Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (JAC-ECC)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129321167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the most crucial components of face recognition problems is classification. Sparse representation-based classification (SRC) has been recently proposed to considerably improve the classification performance by using the compressed sensing theory. However, SRC utilizes ℓ1 minimization for recovery. Despite being optimal, ℓ1 minimization is computationally expensive, and hence, not applicable in real-time applications. In this paper, we present the Fast Matching Pursuit (FMP) which is a compressed sensing recovery algorithm that results in a recognition time that is only 4% to 10% of that of ℓ1 minimization and approximately half the time of existing related matching pursuit approaches. This significant speedup does not come at the expense of any degradation in the recognition rate.","PeriodicalId":406498,"journal":{"name":"2017 Japan-Africa Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (JAC-ECC)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132097040","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed algorithms reduce the non-linearity and memory effects that cause in-band distortions and increase the spectral regrowth in adjacent channels. the first proposed algorithm solves the convergence guarantees by the local search caused by particle swarm optimization. The second algorithm solves the same problem and improves the full random distributed particles defined in the swarm, simultaneously. Simulation results of the two proposed algorithms are demonstrated and compared with the conventional particle swarm optimization algorithm, traditional normalized least mean square algorithm and also compared with each other.","PeriodicalId":406498,"journal":{"name":"2017 Japan-Africa Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (JAC-ECC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130489966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the transmission capacity and processing power of network equipment have been enhanced recently, packetized schemes should also be optimized, considering that several hundred billion IoT devices will be connected to networks by 2020. This paper proposes packetized schemes for IoT devices that use ZigBee, which is a promising candidate for the implementation of IoT area networks. In the proposed schemes, data blocks from many sensors are aggregated and bundled into a packet. The performance of these schemes is discussed, and their implementation in a prototype system is described to demonstrate their validity.","PeriodicalId":406498,"journal":{"name":"2017 Japan-Africa Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (JAC-ECC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130907963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes robust and fast system for HGR that is based on dimensionality reduction of histogram of oriented gradients feature vectors by applying principal component analysis without losing performance, besides reducing computational cost and memory requirements. Multi-class Support Vector Machine (SVM) and k-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) classifiers are used to classify the hand gestures. The proposed algorithm achieves average recognition rate of 97.69% under different hand poses and complex background with changes in lightning. Our proposed algorithm reduces gesture matching computational cost and memory requirements by 98.6%. Experimental results show that average accuracy with KNN classifier are better than with SVM classifier. The results also show that our descriptor is robust against multiple variations such as rotation, scale, translation, and lighting while provides good performance.","PeriodicalId":406498,"journal":{"name":"2017 Japan-Africa Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (JAC-ECC)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131130504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Edge injection technique has been adopted for ring oscillator (RO) phase noise suppression and performance enhancement. Edge injection helps improving the oscillator jitter performance while maintaining spurious harmonics minimized. In addition, implementing the proposed RO using identical NAND delay stages simplifies the design and improves frequency oscillation adjustment. The proposed injection locked oscillator (ILO) has an oscillation frequency of 3.3 GHz with fine tuning range of 400 MHz. This ILO achieves a phase noise of −120.2 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset.
