An added challenge in the Bahamas is related to the significant impact of Hurricane Dorian, which struck the Northern Bahamas in the fall of 2019, devastating the Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama. This paper assesses the efforts within the Bahamas to recover from the dual impacts of the pandemic and the hurricane. In particular, the paper addresses the importance of developing the workforce-ready skills required to meet the national skill gap and the critical needs of businesses as a key part of the recovery efforts and preparing for the world of work post-pandemic. Specifically, the paper utilizes the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) to provide examples of developing and delivering key, in-demand, industrycertified workforce trade-related skills in traditional on-campus formats and increasingly using online and blended modalities in response to Hurricane Dorian and the global pandemic. The paper uses a mixed methods approach of a survey and interviews of participants completing an accelerated, certified, pilot skills training initiative. Overall, research results indicated that respondents were very satisfied with the training and suggested improvements was identified.","PeriodicalId":405913,"journal":{"name":"i-manager’s Journal on Management","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130865941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current concern pertains to how organizations can effectively implement these goals within a practical working environment. This study focuses on improving quality in the recruitment process by highlighting means and mediums that contribute to biased or faulty recruitment, resulting in the loss of best-fit candidates. Faulty or biased recruitment mainly refers to the conscious and subconscious biases exhibited by recruiters toward the candidates. This descriptive study is based on a real case study, employing the observation method of data collection to shed light on the issues caused by recruitment biases within an organization. The study also demonstrates a set of key factors that cause faulty recruitment and suggests possible solutions. The findings elaborate that faulty recruitment is due to cognitive biases, unstructured interview methods, and human errors. The recommendations show further precautions to be considered to avoid biases in the recruitment process.","PeriodicalId":405913,"journal":{"name":"i-manager’s Journal on Management","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124809401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The private sector currently dominates the provision of services, accounting for 70% of services provided. Within the private sector, the hospitality industry is particularly dependent on a multidisciplinary workforce with various categories of employees. Supervisory staff, middle management, and senior executives all play crucial roles in ensuring the provision of high-quality hospitality services. Effective personnel management is essential to ensure that the qualitative and quantitative needs of different departments are met. However, the hospitality industry operates in a dynamic and complex environment, which can lead to challenges such as lower occupancy rates, higher capacity, shorter guest stays, and negative impacts on the hotel's reputation. Therefore, the quality of care provided to guests is of utmost importance in the hospitality industry, as it can directly affect business growth and performance. Adequate guest care and preferences must be taken into account, and strategies should be in place to ensure that the hospitality services meet guests' needs and preferences.","PeriodicalId":405913,"journal":{"name":"i-manager’s Journal on Management","volume":"208 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130265041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Facebook, Wikipedia, Twitter, WhatsApp, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Reddit are some of the most popular social media sites. These are not only social networking sites but also places where people can divulge personal information to the public and the community. Additionally, business owners sell their products on social media and profit from crowdfunding. Data analytics gather and analyze social networking platform data, enabling businesses to make wise decisions. Students and young people are greatly impacted by social media, which influences their consideration of human nature and the inadvertent development of fanaticism and avarice. Therefore, social media is used to both elevate and degrade people from all walks of life. This study shows the positive and negative impact of social media on youth in different sectors.","PeriodicalId":405913,"journal":{"name":"i-manager’s Journal on Management","volume":"563 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116524837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
