The proposed congestion triggering mechanism triggers congestion whenever the channel occupied ratio (COR) reaches a maximum threshold value and the received signal strength is less than a minimum threshold value. Following it, the congestion control scheme controls the data sending rate of the sender by determining available bandwidth, delay of its link and COR. Further, a fair resource allocation scheme is put forwarded. The proposed approach is simulated in network simulator-2 (NS-2). Simulation results illustrate the efficiency of our technique in terms of throughput, delivery ratio and delay.","PeriodicalId":404873,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computing for Sustainable Global Development (INDIACom)","volume":"130 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132244093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposed the modeling and control of a hybrid Wind Power, Diesel-Engine Generator (DEG) - Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage system connected to an Isolated power system. A case study on the impact of SMES operations on the frequency stability of Hybrid System has been carried out. The limits on the inductor (coil) current due to the possibilities of discontinuous conduction in the presence of large disturbances and limited storage capacity have also been incorporated. The modeling of wind power is also presented and analyzed for a time period of 24-hours with varying wind velocity. Hybrid system has analyzed in the Matlab Simulink environment. Simulation results indicate that SMES system can contribute to frequency stability in both cases when the load increases and also when the load drops. This feature of SMES system will be helpful if it is operated along with a hybrid Wind-PV System.","PeriodicalId":404873,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computing for Sustainable Global Development (INDIACom)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134308778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We illustrate an automatic means to create Rural Information Portals (RIPs). RIPs are big explorable information databases of web pages customized to the information requirements of an intended community. We merge an expert classifier with a crawler to congregate the pages from the web portal for some specified topic. After specifying a topic collection of significance, our method constructs a RIP which contains the most related web pages from these topics. We have proposed a new architecture of e-Governance for detached web by applying the vertical information access layer.","PeriodicalId":404873,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computing for Sustainable Global Development (INDIACom)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125234574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The salient features of SaaS includes low startup cost, easy provisioning at the time of need, shorter release cycle, easy maintenance, cost saving on maintenance and upgradation, multi tenant architecture, etc. The advantages and the working pattern surely make it as a best option for Small and Medium Business Enterprises, when compared to traditional web applications. However the consideration of wide consumer base with different requirements specification for a single application leads to the complexity of SaaS design. The SaaS applications are based on protocols such as HTTP, SOAP and architecture design concept such as REST. Many development models have been used for SaaS design however most of the models have very little focus on the reliability. A perspective comparison has been presented in the paper work for the traditional applications and the SaaS applications. A number of desired characteristics have been outlined to increase the configurability, portability and reliability of the SaaS applications designs.","PeriodicalId":404873,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computing for Sustainable Global Development (INDIACom)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114434758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The communications that occur in SCADA systems are transmission of sensed real time data across various devices, details of activities going on in the devices, information related to breaks and leakages in the system etc. As the numbers of deliberate cyber attacks on these systems are increasing, it is essential to achieve secure communication between the authorized devices. Use of symmetric crypto technique, which is suitable for real time and resource constrained devices, enables the authorized parties to share a common secret key. As these secret keys need to be preshared or updated for confidential communications; enforcing key synchronization in the communicating parties is a major issue. This paper proposes key synchronization mechanisms using self diagnosis approach. The self diagnosis approach using finite state machine enables each device in the system to participate in discovering the device which is not key synchronized, by transiting the detector's current state to a new one based on local evidences and arriving at accepted state outputs, resulting in the final diagnosis report. This report helps to look for the devices that have key synchronization problem and thus supports for secure and transparent communication in SCADA systems.","PeriodicalId":404873,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computing for Sustainable Global Development (INDIACom)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124669727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Over the years, it has been experienced that initially CS students face a lot of problems in understanding and further implementing the various scheduling algorithms. Also generating and regenerating Gantt Charts is faced with difficulties by many CS students. A visual tool or diagram has always been effective way in better learning and understanding. We developed a Java and Java Swing based application, to visually explain various scheduling algorithms. User can enter the runtime details of processes and the tool is capable of graphically showing the execution of processes inside the system using a particular scheduling algorithm. The tool is also capable of doing calculations different effectiveness criteria of an algorithm like waiting time of each process, average waiting time and turnaround time. The major objective for reengineering revolves around reducing the cost of investment in Information Technology (IT) infrastructure by reducing the maintenance cost and capitalizing on the current existing IT infrastructure. This can be achieved by making it more adaptable to the changing requirements. The decision for reengineering system is quite challenging as one has to select from the available option of investing in new system or legacy system. Further cost of reengineering is not a true decisive parameter for taking up reengineering. A better approach is finding out return on investment (ROI). ROI of reengineering a system is difficult to calculate as one has to assume the cost of project and the project also depends on the requirement of reengineering. This paper gives a generalized approach towards decision making for reengineering the legacy system. This paper presents a requirement specific approach of cost estimation and proposes ROI computation for the assessment of reengineering.","PeriodicalId":404873,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computing for Sustainable Global Development (INDIACom)","volume":"88 30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130778930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
