It promotes a more attractive, contextual web camera and microphone to interact in real-time as happens in a traditional class or face-to-face setting. This research explores and reveals the students' perception of using Zoom in speaking class during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This study surveyed 96 students of English Study Program of Universitas Ruteng, Indonesia. The questionnaire was used to gather data, which was then quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. According to the findings, students' perception of using Zoom in speaking class during the COVID-19 Pandemic was primarily included in positive perception. Moreover, the barriers found were institutional ICT infrastructure, 63.6%, internet network stability, 98%, availability of internet quota package, 98%, and the student's lack of initiative, 86.4%. According to the results, university students had a positive perception of using Zoom; however, there were several obstacles that hampered the application's execution.","PeriodicalId":403224,"journal":{"name":"First International Conference on Humanities, Education, Language and Culture, ICHELAC 2021, 30-31 August 2021, Flores, Indonesia","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116511131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This mixed-method study in form of sequential exploratory mixed-method design reports the findings of the prospective teachers’ perception on the optimization of self-assessment through reflective teaching and how it contributes towards their teaching skill improvement. There were 105 samples taken randomly from 225 prospective teachers who were taking real teaching practicum. Self-reflected questionnaire and interview guide were administered to describe how they perceived their practice. Teaching rubric was used to score their teaching performance. The data were then analyzed using Pearson’s Product-Moment analysis to test the hypothesis. The findings from the questionnaire and interview show that they perceived themselves as introductory reflective teachers because self-assessment was quite difficult to do. However, the workout indicates a significant contribution (Sig. 0.001), which shows that this is something beneficial for their self-improvement. It implies that the implementation of self-assessment needs to be optimally trained for preparing better teaching carrier development.","PeriodicalId":403224,"journal":{"name":"First International Conference on Humanities, Education, Language and Culture, ICHELAC 2021, 30-31 August 2021, Flores, Indonesia","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115033824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The socio-pragmatic error is concerned with the deviation of form and meaning in the target language. Regardless of other types, such as grammatical and lexical errors focusing on sound, lexeme and sentence order or any syntactical pattern (microlinguitics), socio-pragmatic error is an error in which context of the language user is definitely involved (macrolinguitics). It deals with what is common and acceptable in a certain community and what is not. The acceptability is closely related to an understanding of the context where language is being used. Referring to the statements in question, the main objective of this article was to describe the observed Indonesian daily speakers’ conversations socio-pragmatic errors. Conversation analysis supporting by pragmatic perspective was used to analyze the data. The results of analysis indicated that the L1 interference and insufficient knowledge of context and culture of the target language (L2) caused the socio-pragmatic errors. As such, the results might of benefit in English Language Teaching (ELT) as highlighted at the end of this article.","PeriodicalId":403224,"journal":{"name":"First International Conference on Humanities, Education, Language and Culture, ICHELAC 2021, 30-31 August 2021, Flores, Indonesia","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132480798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presence of the COVID-19 has brought tremendously significant shifts in teaching and learning process in higher education. The abrupt shift from in person contexts to remote learning has a huge impact in the way traditional higher education institutions deliver their courses to the students. This quantitative study seeks to uncover the undergraduate students’ perception on their online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic period. Randomly selected, the present study involved (N=75 students) from English Study Program Universitas Katolik Indonesia Santu Paulus Ruteng. The instrument used was a 4-point Likert Scale questionnaire which consisted of twenty closed-ended items. This unprecedented event results in some setbacks in the learning process, and among the detrimental effects is learning loss. This bibliographic review aimed to compare the degree of learning loss due to the covid pandemic in several places worldwide and evaluate what it means for the learning situation and progress in Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (ENT). From this study, we found a massive learning loss during the learning-from-home setting for students in many places around the world, including Indonesia. The degree could be varied depending on the way the learning process is conducted. By reflecting on the learning loss-related research from places worldwide, learning loss has the potential to be more detrimental for students in Manggarai since the infrastructure to support remote learning is not adequate enough and not equally distributed. This situation leads to only a limited number of learning instructions that can be applied to support the instruction. Therefore, this paper recommended a more empirical research to measure the magnitude of learning loss in Manggarai while also taking some mitigation strategies to deal with the possible loss.","PeriodicalId":403224,"journal":{"name":"First International Conference on Humanities, Education, Language and Culture, ICHELAC 2021, 30-31 August 2021, Flores, Indonesia","volume":"177 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134160707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
