Due to the high cost of reinforcing steel and its scarcity in many countries, researchers leaned towards finding an alternative, less expensive, renewable and environmentally friendly material. Synthetic and natural fibers, such as glass fiber, bamboo and plam leave, had been under study to serve as reinforcing steel alternatives. This research studies the bending behavior and strength of concrete beams reinforced with bamboo and palm leaves. Six samples were prepared, three of which were reinforced with palm leaves and three with bamboo. A reference beam sample was also prepared for comparative purposes. Three-point bending test was carried out and bending behavior and collapse mechanism were studied. The results showed that the use of palm leaves and bamboo as an alternative to steel reinforcement in concrete improves the beams’ structural behavior. The palm leaves and bamboo reinforced samples showed distinctly different patterns of failure.","PeriodicalId":402125,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Engineering and Technology Advances","volume":"5 15","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141796079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present day, nations throughout the globe exhibit a collective preoccupation with the issue of environmental pollution and its consequential impacts. However, it remains imperative for these nations to secure adequate energy resources in order to facilitate the progress and advancement of their respective countries. The utilization of conventional techniques, particularly those involving coal, fossil fuels, and organic matter, to generate the necessary energy yields a significant level of air pollution, which serves as the primary catalyst for global warming. The utilization of non-conventional methods for energy production is deemed more favorable in terms of environmental impact. However, the lack of economic viability serves as the primary deterrent for impoverished and emerging nations in adopting such non-conventional techniques. The geographical conditions have a significant role in determining the viability of nonconventional sources such as solar energy and wind energy. This study involved an analysis of the performance of a solar trough collector, with subsequent calculations of its efficiencies.","PeriodicalId":402125,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Engineering and Technology Advances","volume":"9 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139591297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
