En 2013 la editorial Astiberri publicó su novela gráfica Nela, una adaptación de la novela de Benito Pérez Galdós Marianela de 1878. En este documento, los autores hacen un análisis del trabajo de Pulido con el objetivo de observar qué cambios ocurren en una obra que está codificada en clave estética de la lengua al transformarla, o traducirla, al lenguaje del cómic. Se analizan las modificaciones en los elementos que constituyen la obra y la relación que sostienen; a la vez, es un reconocimiento de los aspectos insatisfactorios del trabajo de Pulido, así como sus aciertos, y una invitación al intercambio entre sistemas de composición estética.Abstract:Rayco Pulido (1978) is a Spanish cartoonist, who received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. In 2013, Astiberri Publishers published his graphic novel Nela, an adaptation of Benito Pérez Galdós´s Marianela (1878). In this paper, the authors analyze Pulido´s adaptation to track what kind of changes occur in the translation from a novel, a work that is codified in the aesthetic key of language, to a graphic novel. Modifications in the work's components and their interrelations are analyzed; at the same time, it is an assessment of both the unsatisfactory aspects and strengths of Pulido's work, and an invitation to the exchange between systems of aesthetic composition.","PeriodicalId":40152,"journal":{"name":"Anales Galdosianos","volume":"52 1","pages":"53 - 77"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2017-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1353/ANG.2017.0002","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44595833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A través de diálogos con estudios de la discapacidad, compara el personaje de Tristana con Rhoda Nunn, la protagonista Mujer Nueva de la novela realista de Gissing. Rhoda, como mujer físicamente capacitada, supera discursos de degeneración que intentan masculinizarla mientras que Tristana internaliza su propia deshumanización por parte de la sociedad a causa de su discapacidad. El ensayo también demuestra, al recurrir a textos médicos contemporáneos, que los deseos de independencia económica de Tristana inscriben en su cuerpo el discurso enfermizo de histeria mucho antes de la amputación de su pierna.Abstract:This essay treats George Gissing's The Odd Women (1893) as a critical lens through which to reconsider the inextricable relationship between female emancipation, illness and disability in Benito Pérez Galdós's novel, Tristana (1892). In dialogue with disability studies, the essay reads Tristana against Rhoda Nunn, the New Woman heroine of Gissing's realist novel. Where the able-bodied Rhoda's strong sense of vocation enables her to transcend masculinizing discourses of degeneracy, Tristana's disability leads to the internalization of her own objectification. Through recourse to contemporary medical and social texts, this essay further demonstrates that Tristana's determined pursuit of financial independence inscribes her body with discourses of hysteric disease, well before the amputation of her leg.","PeriodicalId":40152,"journal":{"name":"Anales Galdosianos","volume":"52 1","pages":"33 - 51"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2017-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1353/ANG.2017.0001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41791400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
