In my comment I will discuss same issues regarding the difficulties in defining and positioning Cognitive Neuroscience, at a conceptual level, within the framework of the disciplines from which it emerges. I am convinced that the path open by Cognitive Neuroscience in the study of cognition is the one to be followed in the future. {"title":"Neurociencia Cognitiva: reflexiones más allá de una expansión anunciada en España","authors":"F. Cadaveira","doi":"10.1174/0214355042248947","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1174/0214355042248947","url":null,"abstract":"In the light of the revision of Escera, in this paper the author meditates on some factors that led to the emergence of Cognitive Neuroscience. The new discipline is valued as a result of the confluence of different approaches around a topic of common interest, in contexts inclined to the interdisciplinary collaboration. This paper outlines the necessity to confront with caution but also with enough flexibility the appearance of synthesis disciplines, as an enriching form to exchange different points of view and to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the new technological developments. From the consideration of the different psychological disciplines it is questioned if Cognitive Neuroscience really supposes a new paradigm. Some possible self-limitations and excesses originated by the purpose of differentiating the new discipline are also point out. Los tests usados para la recogida de los datos consistieron en el analisis del nivel de aceptabilidad de lo apropiado de una serie de oraciones (que contenian algunas de estas preposiciones) por medio de una serie de dibujos. Por ejemplo, los dibujos representaban a un hombre sosteniendo un objeto (ej., un paraguas) con la funcion de protegerse de la caida de objetos. Cada dibujo estaba disenado con un objeto que realizaba su funcion o ninguna con diferentes posiciones geometricas. En el experimento 1, los resultados demuestran que en espanol no existe efecto alguno de la geometria, pero si un efecto muy significativo de la funcion. Ademas, podemos observar que mientras que en ingles over y under son mas afectadas por la funcion y menos por la geometria que above y below, en espanol solamente encontramos diferencias en la importancia del papel de la funcion para las relaciones superiores (sobre es mas afectada por la funcion que encima de). En el experimento 2, resultados similares se encontraron usando dibujos donde el marco de referencia bien estaba alineado o no. Estos resultados son discutidos en relacion a las limitaciones de la jerarquia implicacional propuesta por Bowerman y Choi (2001). EnglishWe report the results of two experiments which examine the relative influence of geometry and function on the comprehension of spatial prepositions in Spanish (sobre, encima de, debajo de and bajo) and in English (over, under, above and below) by native speakers of those languages. The tasks used consisted of rating how appropriate sentences (containing one of these prepositions) were to describe a series of pictures. For example, the pictures comprised a person holding an object with the function of protection from falling objects (e.g., an umbrella). Each picture was depicted with the object shown as fulfilling its function or not at different geometric positions. In Experiment 1, in Spanish no effect of geometry was found, but there was a significant effect of function. Furthermore, while in English over and under were more affected by function and less affected by geometry than above and below, in Spanish a differential effect of function was found for superior relations alone (sobre was more affected by function than encima de). In Experiment 2, similar results were found for scenes where reference frames are aligned or misaligned. Para efectuar este recuento hemos registrado todas las lecturas realizadas durante un curso academico de un grupo de 48 ninos procedentes de 4 centros escolares de entorno urbano, 8 de cada curso. En relacion con los inventarios silabicos existentes, el que ahora presentamos se caracteriza porque (a) se ha obtenido a partir de muestras muy amplias de lenguaje escrito dirigido a la poblacion infantil, (b) recoge los textos concretos leidos por los distintos ninos de la muestra y (c) presenta informacion sobre las frecuencias silabicas considerando el numero de silabas de las palabras origen. EnglishIn this paper we present a syllabic inventory based on wide written samples of texts addressed to school children. We have collected the lexical entries to which the children who participated in this study for an entire year (school terms and holidays) were exposed. To do this, we have digitalized the texts read by a group of 48 children from the six years of primary school (8 from each year). Based on these texts we then made a dictionary of lexical frequency by accumulating what a child reads in the six school years.
