Despite their significant impact on the lives of affected children and their families, research on validated therapies to assist individuals with FASD has been limited compared to other neurodevelopmental disorders. The search included studies, published in French or English, with or without control groups, examining the effectiveness of psychomotor therapies in children and adolescents with FASD.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>Out of 1198 references, ten studies involving a total of 296 children with FASD (10 to 100 patients per study) were selected. Nine of these studies included a control group. Interventions such as the “Alert Program® for Self-Regulation”, “Cognitive Control Therapy”, specific training programs for attention or social skills were identified as psychomotor interventions with the highest level of evidence of effectiveness in areas frequently disrupted in children with FASD (emotional management, cognitive functions, and social skills). Replication of studies, predominantly conducted in North America, and more detailed exploration of sensorimotor difficulties or interventions aiming to address them, remain to be carried out. As with other neurodevelopmental disorders, multimodal and early psychomotor interventions appear to be the most useful. The playful dimension and parental involvement are described as essential ingredients contributing to the effectiveness of each psychomotor therapeutic approach.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":39666,"journal":{"name":"Neuropsychiatrie de l''Enfance et de l''Adolescence","volume":"72 3","pages":"Pages 135-143"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140797433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The adipose tissue is an endocrine organ in permanent communication with other ones, including the appetite regulation centres of the brain and the neuroendocrine system of the digestive tract. A precise analysis of the trajectory of weight gain and its associated manifestations such as abnormal physical or developmental features and complications is mandatory while facing a child or adolescent with obesity. A close cooperation with reference centres for childhood obesity and nutrigenomics research units leading to the diagnosis of genetic forms, likely to be underdiagnosed, may allow the use of targeted and efficient drug treatment. A recent double-blind study has shown that a Glucagon like peptide 1 (GLP1) analogue, a key contributor of appetite regulation from intestinal origin, has a major beneficial impact on adolescents with obesity of polygenic origin. Further studies are still required to ensure the long-term effect and the lack of side effects of such a treatment. However, such results already challenge the indication of bariatric surgery. While prevention still must be a priority, many other molecules and therapeutic approaches are underway for the most frequent metabolic and chronic childhood disorder.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":39666,"journal":{"name":"Neuropsychiatrie de l''Enfance et de l''Adolescence","volume":"72 3","pages":"Pages 103-108"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139195185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It cannot dispense with a comprehensive psychiatric examination, particularly in the search for an eating behavior disorder. In this review article, we present, in the first part, eating disorders most specifically related to obesity (binge eating disorder, loss of control overeating, and night eating syndrome) as well as associated psychiatric comorbidities. In the second part, we examine specific factors (emotional eating, cognitive restriction, and social stigmatization) that may contribute to the emergence of eating disorders in young individuals with obesity. This psychopathological approach will facilitate a more comprehensive understanding of the complex issue of childhood obesity, potentially leading to more effective therapeutic and preventive strategies.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":39666,"journal":{"name":"Neuropsychiatrie de l''Enfance et de l''Adolescence","volume":"72 3","pages":"Pages 99-102"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140278697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By identifying the factors that promote or hinder peer relationships for young children aged 1 to 6 with disabilities, this research aimed to help improve practices in order to support inclusive situations and limit the isolation of these children. Thirty-two children who had motor, or intellectual and motor disabilities, or multiple disability, were observed for 18 months, at home, in inclusive settings and in specialised settings, using observation booklets filled in by parents or professionals depending on the place of observation. Research interviews were conducted at the end of the study with participating parents and professionals. The verbatims of the observations and interviews were subject to a thematic content analysis. After noting that children with disabilities were more isolated than others, six factors were identified as promoting or hindering interaction : (i) the relational experience of children with disabilities with familiar children, (ii) the size of the group of children in which they evolved, (iii) the intervention of the adult in the relationships between children, (iv) the characteristics of the pathology, (v) the character traits of the children, and finally (vi) the material and human environment in which they were welcomed. The discussion conclusion focuses on an analysis of the processes at work in the creation of interactions between children with disabilities and their peers, which opens up clinical perspectives in terms of support for children and their families.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":39666,"journal":{"name":"Neuropsychiatrie de l''Enfance et de l''Adolescence","volume":"72 5","pages":"Pages 199-207"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140757432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They gave birth between April 2020 and July 2022 in metropolitan France or the Netherlands. Each participant had an individual and semi-directional telephonic interview which was transcribed and subjected to thematic content analysis.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>Visitor restrictions in maternity wards were a source of great apprehension for participants, which is the first theme of our thematic analysis. The unknown, changes in restrictions and mentions of other mothers who had experienced such restrictions were often sources of fear, anxiety and a heavy mental load for these participants. The second theme was the yearning and related to the lack of emotional and physical support that mothers felt when their family and friends were not allowed in the maternity ward; this theme also highlighted the central place given to the new-born's siblings in this ward. The third theme was the traumatic experience of mothers who have experienced the restriction of their partner. These results underline the need for participants to be accompanied by their partners throughout their stay in the maternity ward. Finally, tranquillity was the last theme and was related to the absence of family and friends during postpartum care, something that participants had differing opinions about but that most agreed would have given them a better first postpartum experience in the maternity ward.</p></div><div><h3>Discussion</h3><p>Whether viewed as positive or negative, visitor restrictions have a significant impact on how mothers experience their childbirth and stay in a maternity ward.</p></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><p>If a new wave of the pandemic were to occur, these results would encourage policy makers to rethink visitor restrictions in maternity wards and consider the need for every mother to be surrounded there by the people of her choice.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":39666,"journal":{"name":"Neuropsychiatrie de l''Enfance et de l''Adolescence","volume":"72 2","pages":"Pages 66-75"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139967100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
