The enzyme activity such as peroxidase (POX) in vegetative and reproductive stages ranged from 25.26 to 32.27 and 20.56 to 26.20 U/min/g/fresh wt, respectively. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme activity in vegetative and reproductive stages ranged from 13.51 to 26.13 and 21.21 to 30.13 Unit g/f.wt, respectively. The maximum peroxidase enzyme activity was found in vegetative stage alongwith application of 30 kg/ha of sulphur as compared to vegetative stage, whereas the maximum SOD activity was recorded in reproductive stage as compared to vegetative stage alongwith application of 30 kg/ha of sulphur.","PeriodicalId":39477,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Agricultural Biochemistry","volume":"33 1","pages":"87-92"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71221433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of the study was to investigate the influence of extraction techniques such as Thermal, Agitation assisted extraction (AAE) and Microwave assisted extraction (MAE) on flavonoid content of red beet using different solvent compositions viz., T1 Distilled water ii) T2-Distilled water + 0.5% citric acid, iii)T3- 20% Ethanol, iv) T4–20% Ethanol+ 0.5% citric acid, v)T5–50% Ethanol, vi)T6- 50% Ethanol +0.5% citric acid. The impact of solvent systems and extraction techniques were evaluated at different temperatures (40, 50 and 60°C), agitation speeds (150, 170 and 190 rpm) and microwave power levels (160, 320 and 480 W). It was found that highest flavonoid content was observed in AAE at 190 rpm as 11.62 mg quercetin equivalent (QE)/100g dry weight (DW)in T4 followed by 8.00 mg QE/100g DWat 480 W in T5 through MAE and 7.16 mg QE/100g DW in thermal extraction at 40°C in T5. The effect of solvent composition on extraction methods was found significant and MAE evolved as efficient process for the extraction of flavonoids from red beet.","PeriodicalId":39477,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Agricultural Biochemistry","volume":"33 1","pages":"43-48"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71220988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

No single variety in both the groups was found to possess superior levels of all the nutritional characteristics, however, variety KGD 1168 of chickpea and T44 of green gram were found noticeable in certain characteristics having direct bearing on their nutritional status. Significant varietal differences were observed in oil, protein, methionine and tryptophan content in both chickpea and green gram. Compared to whole grains, dhal samples of both chickpea and green gram varieties possessed superior nutritional status in having considerably higher levels of oil, protein, methionine and tryptophan with significantly lower levels of polyphenols. With the exception of oil content, green gram varieties were found significantly superior to chickpea in all the nutritional characteristics.","PeriodicalId":39477,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Agricultural Biochemistry","volume":"33 1","pages":"93-98"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71221506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present investigation, two strains of Trichoderma, indigenously isolated Trichoderma harzianum (Th9) and commercial strain of same species tested were used against destructive fungus, Phytopthera infestans through in-vitro studies. Both strains of fungal bioagents showed variation in their potentiality against the rot causing fungus Phytopthera infestans. Trichoderma harzianum (Th9) exhibited highly potential properties as compared to the commercial strain. Biochemical studies revealed that enzymes chitinase and β 1,3 glucanase known for systemic resistance were found in higher concentration in healthy plants of potato as compared to the diseased one. The Th9 strain was, therefore, selected for further Integrated pest management studies either for pure applications and/or as core component of IPM packages on potato crops under field conditions.","PeriodicalId":39477,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Agricultural Biochemistry","volume":"33 1","pages":"99-101"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71221564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The TPC and TFC ranged from 2535.51±10.88 to 26.99±0.58 mg GAE/100 g and 659.61±1.14 to 10.10±1.30 mg RE/100 g, respectively. The higher TPC, TFC and total antioxidant capacity (ORAC, FRAP, DPPH RSA and ABTS RSA) was observed in methanolic extract of amla among all the extracts. The in vitro anti-inflammatory activity could be ranked based on the IC50, as Amla>Grapes>Tomato>Pomegranate>Mango>Tamarind>Papaya>Bael> Guava.
