{"title":"Internal Structure of Khan Younis - Palestine – According to Data of Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics","authors":"Hanin Salameh, Sami Shaath, Hussein Al-Rimmawi","doi":"10.35552/0247.38.1.2140","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35552/0247.38.1.2140","url":null,"abstract":"This study aimed to tackle Khan Younis internal structure according to data obtained from Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics and to what extend it applies to the theories of cities internal structure. The study used the historical approach to track the city’s development up to present. In addition, it used the descriptive method to describe the study area and the distribution of its population in 18 neighborhoods. Furthermore, the study used factor analysis technique in order to find out Khan Younis factorial ecology. The results showed four factors that describe 92% of Khan-Younis city’s internal structure. First factor which was called “High education and high professions” described (68%) of the city’s internal structure. Second factor which was called “Lower education and lower professions” described (14%), Third factor which was called “The working in fishing, agriculture and crafts” described (5%), Fourth factor “The Villa factor” described (5%). Results showed the internal structure of the city doesn’t match any of the common city structure theories. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تتبع التركيب الداخلي لمدينة خانيونس استناداً لبيانات لجهاز المركزي للإحصاء الفلسطيني لعام 2017 ومدى تطابقه مع إحدى نظريات التركيب الداخلي للمدن. استخدمت الدراسة المنهج التاريخي الذي يتيح تتبع المراحل التاريخية التي مرت بها المدينة، وما ترافق مع ذلك من تطور لعدد سكانها منذ إنشائها حتى الوقت الحاضر. كما استخدمت المنهج الوصفي التحليلي لوصف منطقة الدراسة من حيث الموقع وتوزيع السكان داخل أحياء المدينة البالغ عددها ثمانية عشر. فضلاً عن ذلك، تهدف هذه الدراسة الى إيجاد البيئة العاملية للمدينة، من خلال توظيف تقنية التحليل العاملي، الذي يعالج المتغيرات ويحولها إلى عدد محدود من العوامل التي تفسر البيئة العاملية للمدينة. ومن حيث البيئة العاملية للمدينة فقد اتضح أن المتغيرات الداخلة في الدراسة تفسر 92% من تركيبها الداخلي، تقاسمتها أربعة عوامل. أطلق على العامل الأول مسمى تعليم عالي ومهن، وفسر 68% من البيئة العاملية للمدينة. أما العامل الثاني فأطلق عليه مسمى تعليم متدني ومهن متدنية، وفسر 14% من البيئة العاملية للمدينة، كما أطلق على العامل الثالث مسمى العاملون في الزراعة وصيد الأسماك، وفسر 5% من تركيب المدينة. وأخيرا أطلق على العامل الرابع مسمى مالكوا الفلل، وفسر 5% من تركيب المدينة. وهناك متغيرات أخرى غير داخلة في الدراسة فسرت 8% من تركيب المدينة. كما بينت النتائج أن البيئة العاملية لمدينة خان يونس لا تتطابق مع أي من نظريات البيئة العاملية للمدن.","PeriodicalId":393703,"journal":{"name":"An-Najah University Journal for Research - B (Humanities)","volume":"17 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139129605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"The Translation of Palestinian Folksongs in Ibrahim Nasrallah's Time of White Horses","authors":"Bilal Hamamra, Ahmad Qabaha, Eithar Awwad","doi":"10.35552/0247.37.11.2123","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35552/0247.37.11.2123","url":null,"abstract":"This study investigates the translation of Palestinian folksongs in Ibrahim Nasrallah's Time of White Horses. The study tackles the cultural references and norms embedded in each subcategory following a thematic categorization of Palestinian folksongs. The variant implications the folksongs communicate are also addressed in the light of Nancy Roberts' translation of the novel and Venuti’s discussion about foreignization and domestication. Finally, the research discusses the ways in which translation affects folksongs' artistic and national identity. The novel employed a wide range of songs of different functions and themes namely songs of wedding ceremonies, lamentation, songs of religious ceremonies and seasons, songs of collective work and agricultural seasons, children’s songs, and love songs. The study finds that the majority of the cultural references and norms embedded in folksongs are appropriated in the target text and culture by the means of domestication. Furthermore, the study shows that the identity of folksongs stems from Palestinian dialect and other stylistic features such as repetition, meter, and rhyme schemes. The study reveals that the target text's version of the folksongs lacks the majority of these identity markers due to the use of domestication. {"title":"The Revival of the Classical Racist Discourse in Europe: A Critical Discursive Analysis of Racism in the Context of Russia-Ukraine War","authors":"Rami Qawariq, Haneen Estetieh","doi":"10.35552/0247.37.11.2122","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35552/0247.37.11.2122","url":null,"abstract":"With the rise of critical theories and legal regulations that criminalize racism and accentuate tolerant and liberal values, racist discourses turned to be articulated indirectly (Essed, 1990; van Dijk & Wodak, 2000; Wodak, 2008), and a neo-racist discourse replaced classical racism to be ostensibly respectable and democratic with reference to cultural, rather than racial, difference (Barker 1981; Jayasuriya, 2002; van Dijk, 1997, 2000). However, a blatant and essentialist racist discourse has found its way back to the public sphere in light of the Russia-Ukraine war. Racist remarks have been documented in different types of texts directed to the masses. Therefore, this paper investigates the discursive strategies through which classical racism normalizes its reappearance in a supposedly liberal and democratic political environment. To achieve its objectives, the study adopts the Discourse-Historical Approach (Wodak, 2008) to analyse 18 texts of politicians and media reporters and commentators that include racist and discriminatory remarks in justifying the classification of refugees into 'like us' and 'different' categories. The study finds that the racist discourse uses special rhetoric in order to adapt to the current socio-political realities by combining classical elements of racism, including those of culture, race, and religion, with spatial proximity. {"title":"Students' attitudes about the distance education system in light of the Corona pandemic","authors":"Lubna Khalaily","doi":"10.35552/0247.37.11.2124","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35552/0247.37.11.2124","url":null,"abstract":"This study aimed to reveal the attitudes and perceptions of Palestinian students of the distance education system in the period of the Corona pandemic. The study adopted the descriptive analytical approach, and the study population consisted of school students in the three educational stages (primary, middle, and secondary) in the North region, and the study sample consisted of 1075 male and female students, who were reached by the random cluster method. The questionnaire was used as a tool for data collection after verifying its validity and reliability. The study reached the following results: students' attitudes towards the distance education system for the preparatory and secondary educational stages came to a moderate degree. As for the primary stage, it came with a high score. It was also found that there are statistically significant differences in students' attitudes to the distance education system, due to the educational stage. In light of the results of the study, it is recommended: Giving students and teachers training courses in the field of e-learning and distance education, with the aim of educating them and guiding them on this new style of education and focusing on the role of each in the teaching and learning process. The results indicated that there is a difference in the role of school administration with regard to integrating people with special needs according to the gender variable among specialists. And there is no difference in the role of school administration with regard to integrating people with special needs according to the variable of specialization among specialists. {"title":"Determinants of net interest margin for banks operating in Palestine","authors":"Ajyad Bahlaq, Islam Abdeljawad","doi":"10.35552/0247.37.8.2076","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35552/0247.37.8.2076","url":null,"abstract":"The goal of this research is to identify the factors that influence the net interest margin (NIM) for Palestinian conventional banks. Palestine is a unique country with poor governance, political uncertainty, and regula-tory insufficiency, adding higher information asymmetry to the decision-making process. The sample is comprised of unbalanced panel data from 15 commercial banks for the period 2011–2020. The research used a pooled OLS, a fixed-effect model, a random effect model, a robust pooled OLS, a difference GMM, and a system GMM estimators. Evi-dence collected supports that net interest margin is positively influenced by risk aversion, operating costs, and loan-to-deposit, while being nega-tively related to credit risk. The effect of size is positive but not robust. The results imply that banks and policymakers can increase efficiency by better controlling these factors. Particularly, operating costs can be re-duced by implementing efficient banking technologies and improving management practices that reduce the cost of staff. In future research, other factors should be considered, including the bank's ownership struc-ture and type, whether Islamic or conventional. تهدف هذه الدراسة الى تحديد العوامل المؤثرة في صافي هامش الفائدة للمصارف التجارية العاملة في فلسطين، تعتبر فلسطين حالة فريدة للدراسة بسبب ضعف الحوكمة وعدم اليقين السياسي وعدم كفاية التشريعات مما يؤدي الى زيادة مشكلة عدم تماثل المعلومات في عملية اتخاذ القرارات، تكونت عينة الدراسة من بيانات مدمجة غير متوازنة (Unbalanced panel data) لعدد 15 مصرفا تجاريا مارست عملها خلال الفترة من 2011 وحتى 2020. تم تقدير النموذج باستخدام عدة مقدرات هي: المربعات الصغرى المجمعة، الاثر الثابت، الاثر العشوائي، المربعات الصغرى الراسخة (Robust OLS)، وطرق العزوم العامة (GMM). دعمت النتائج وجود علاقة موجبة بين صافي هامش الفائدة وبين درجة تجنب البنك للمخاطر، التكاليف التشغيلية، ونسبة القروض للودائع، بينما وجدت الدراسة علاقة سالبة مع مخاطر الائتمان، ايضا ظهر اثر الحجم موجبا ولكنه ليس مستقرا في النماذج المختلفة، هذه النتائج تعني امكانية زيادة كفاءة البنوك من قبل اداراتها او صانعي السياسات من خلال التحكم المناسب بالعوامل السابقة، بشكل خاص يمكن تخفيض التكاليف التشغيلية من خلال تبني التكنولوجيا الحديثة وتحسين الممارسات الادارية التي تخفض تكلفة الكادر البشري، يقترح البحث للدراسات المستقبلية ان يتم ادخال عوامل اخرى لاختبارها مثل هيكل الملكية ونوع البنك من حيث كونه تقليديا او اسلاميا.","PeriodicalId":393703,"journal":{"name":"An-Najah University Journal for Research - B (Humanities)","volume":"263 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135276941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also discussed the mechanisms used by professional journalists in traditional Palestinian media institutions to deal with the contents produced by citizen journalists. In this context, we posed the following problem: What are the contexts of transformation and integration of traditional Palestinian media in the context of communication digitization, and how did citizenship journalism practices employed in newsrooms? In order to answer this problem, we followed the qualitative content analysis approach. The tool of the qualitative approach was the (codified) scientific interviews with editors-in-chief in the local Palestinian media. The study revealed a number of tricks that Al-Jahiz practiced in his message; He is dispraise wherever he wants to praise; For example, he is proud of the strength of the black people, and in another place of his writings he mentions that they are the owners of mindless brutality, and in this manner, the study continued to present Al-Jahiz in terms of an apparent system whose goal is to serve the black people, and implied contempt for them, and mockery of them. The study reached a number of conclusions, the most important of which is the need for Al-Jahiz’s discourse to be systematically read, and that the Abbasid establishment’s silence before Al-Jahiz is not ignorance of his actions, nor complicity, but rather its consistency with the enjoyment that he offers to the community in its name, and that the Al-Jahizah contravenes this phenomenon.
