Theoretical and empirical research shows the benefits associated with increasing participation in global value chains (GVCs) for both developed and developing countries. However, empirical studies on the effects of backward and forward participation in GVCs for the specific case of a country remain limited. This article seeks to examine whether Morocco’s backward and forward participation in GVCs improves the performance of its exports over the period of 1995 to 2018 using different cointegration techniques in panel data. Our empirical results show that forward and backward participation positively impact exports and domestic value added in Moroccan exports. They also indicate that domestic and foreign service inputs contribute positively to this performance. Based on the obtained results, we propose some recommendations for policymakers.","PeriodicalId":393532,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Institutions and Economies","volume":"1 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141699068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors observed 11 samples of cities and districts in East Java over the last three years (2019 to 2021). Thirty-three research data were processed using panel data regression techniques with a fixed-effects model approach. Data was obtained from the National Zakat Institution (Baznas). The results show that financial support from the local government budget (RREB) and through zakat regulations of the regional governments in East Java have a positive effect on GRDP and a significant negative effect on the Gini index. In addition, zakat distribution activities in East Java have also been shown to have a significant positive and negative effect on GRDP growth and the Gini index. This study also provides recommendations to the local government of East Java and zakat stakeholders in synergising to build a better regional ZI system to support the regional economy.","PeriodicalId":393532,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Institutions and Economies","volume":"1 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141709182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, these studies reveal heterogeneities that make it difficult to implement policy. This current study attempts to fill these gaps by employing foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows as a mediating variable. This study employs balanced panel data for the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) between the period of 2000 to 2021. Based on the mediation framework in a random effect model, this study reveals that political stability (PV) and government effectiveness (GE) affect FDI positively. Moreover, this study finds that FDI can mediate the indirect effect of PV and GE on economic growth. However, this study also reveals that the direct effect of GE on economic growth is negative. This implies that ASEAN countries should be practical, effective, and systematic in improving GE to minimise opportunity costs. On the other hand, ASEAN countries should focus on maintaining PV to attract more FDI and encourage economic growth.","PeriodicalId":393532,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Institutions and Economies","volume":"1982 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141707383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These are categorised into infrastructural, operational, human resource, financial, raw material, general, and exporting process barriers. The present study is descriptive in nature, and surveys 115 marine exporters from Andhra Pradesh. Cronbach’s alpha and factor analysis are used to assess the reliability of the questionnaires and indicate a good reliability score between the variables. Following that, we used a single-factor Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test to determine the significance of the variables. Finally, the findings show that infrastructural, general, and exporting process barriers have a positive significant relationship with export performance, whereas human resource, financial, raw material and operational barriers have a negative significant relationship. This study can be beneficial to state and central governments by increasing foreign reserves and tax revenue, increasing employment opportunities, expanding the global market, properly utilising natural resources, and improving banks’ financial schemes.","PeriodicalId":393532,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Institutions and Economies","volume":"324 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141691679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some of these crises are expected, while others are “bolts from the sky.” However, what is certain is that all these crises, whatever their cause, have a negative impact on global gross domestic product (GDP). If we can identify the components of output that have the most impact in an economic crisis, we might be able to mitigate its effects. Therefore, this paper uses machine learning algorithms to determine how the components of expenditure and sectoral value-added approach impact global GDP. The gradient boosting algorithm is the most accurate model for predicting and determining the impact of independent variables on a dependent variable. The results indicate that government spending has the largest effect on global GDP, accounting for 68.3% of the impact. The economic sector with the most impact on global GDP is the service sector, which affects global output by 42.3%, followed by the agricultural sector at 30.2%. Thus, stimulating government spending and the service sector may reduce the negative effects of an economic crisis.","PeriodicalId":393532,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Institutions and Economies","volume":"405 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141707997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, bank managers’ entrepreneurial behaviour plays an important role. Research on the predictors of managers’ entrepreneurial behaviour, particularly in the Malaysian service industries, are essential, yet they are scarcely available. Results of a survey of 271 managers in this study indicate that self-esteem, proactive personality, and job autonomy had a positive relationship with entrepreneurial behaviour. Interestingly, in relative terms, job autonomy holds a larger effect compared to personal attributes, such as self-esteem, and a proactive personality. Overall, this study is useful for aiding policymakers and practitioners in their efforts to understand the concept of entrepreneurial behaviour, which relies on the potential of personal, and job attributes, of managers in the banking sector. Finally, the study provides practical implications for human capital and organizational behaviour.","PeriodicalId":393532,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Institutions and Economies","volume":"37 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140526422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Manufacturing activity, though providing hope, is constrained by the availability of credit. From social banking to for-profit micro finance institutions (MFIs), the rural economy has witnessed a sea change in the public provisioning of credit. The phenomenal growth of for-profit MFIs in recent years is associated with growing concerns over their unethical practices and exploitation of the rural poor. The present study attempts to trace the factors that influence rural households’ dependence on forprofit MFI credit, despite the abovementioned concerns. The study is based on a primary survey and uses logit and probit models. The estimated results suggest that the factors like access to bank credit and household poverty factors—such as per capita income, number of male workers, and the existence of wage labour—significantly influence the probability of accessing for-profit MFI credit. Accordingly, the present study proposes remedial policies like the expansion of scheduled commercial banks (SCBs) and not-forprofit MFIs, apart from strict regulation of for-profit MFIs.","PeriodicalId":393532,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Institutions and Economies","volume":"38 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140522123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study considers financial literacy, health status, financial situation, public policy, and educational attainment to explore the mediating effect of resilience on life satisfaction among working adults in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A self-administered questionnaire was designed and distributed to working adults aged between 20 and 39 years. A total of 384 usable questionnaires were obtained with an 85.33% response rate. Using partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), our results provide two notable findings. First, individuals who have better financial literacy tend to make decisions by adopting a variety of financial strategies. In turn, their financial stability can lead to better life satisfaction. Second, resilience appears to partially mediate the effects of financial literacy, financial situation, health status and educational attainment on individuals’ life satisfaction. Practically, this study will help the government better equip communities for adults in the places in which they live. A more nuanced understanding of the underlying structure of the economic system should be focused on to design more enlightened policies that promote resilience.","PeriodicalId":393532,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Institutions and Economies","volume":"155 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140523257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data from the Malaysian Household Expenditure Surveys 2014 and 2016 were used for pooled cross-sectional analyses. Quantile regressions were utilised to examine factors affecting household expenditure on FV at different ranges of the expenditure. Results showed that low-, medium- and high-income households headed by younger adults (< 60 years), females, less-educated individuals, Bumiputera and unemployed individuals spent less on FV compared with those headed by older adults (≥ 60 years), males, welleducated individuals, non-Bumiputera and employed individuals. Furthermore, there were positive relationships between quantiles of FV expenditure and household income, rural households, tobacco consumption, and health insurance spending. In conclusion, household heads’ sociodemographic characteristics and household profiles play an important role in influencing household expenditure on FV. Findings obtained in the present study can assist policymakers in formulating better intervention measures and assistance directed toward improving FV intake. Policymakers could consider subsidising FV purchases and promoting FV consumption among female-headed households. Additionally, health awareness programmes could target urban households with single and less-educated heads.","PeriodicalId":393532,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Institutions and Economies","volume":"53 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140515921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using panel data for 12 Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries over the period of 2002 to 2020, the various estimates were carried out by the system generalised method of moments (GMM) method to examine the problem of endogeneity, and unobserved heterogeneity. The results indicate that migrant remittances have a direct negative link to economic growth due to it being mainly used for consumption. This increases the likelihood of dependency, which leads to the reduction of labour supply. The joint relationship between the governance composite index, and remittances, may moderate this negative effect on economic growth. However, considering the individual dimensions of governance, this shows that only the interaction between remittances and the control of corruption gives a positive and significant impact. The interaction between remittances and the five other governance quality indicators appears to be negative and insignificant. This shows that political instability, ineffective government, and poor regulatory quality encourages money transfer through informal channels that thwart economic growth in MENA countries.","PeriodicalId":393532,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Institutions and Economies","volume":"28 3-4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140520502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
