Professional organizations and other parents’ support group can work towards streamlining the screening protocol and raising awareness. \u0000Aim: To study the awareness about these comorbid conditions and their evaluations among parents of children with Down syndrome. \u0000Methods: A cross section questionnaire-based study pilot survey was conducted after taking due consent from the parents. It contained questions regarding whether the parents were aware of the increased risk in different organ systems and whether they knew the recommended timeline for screening. \u0000Results: More than 90 percent of mothers were below the age of 35 years at the time of conception. More than half the parents knew about growth delays, eye, thyroid, cardiovascular complications. Less than 50% had awareness about DS specific growth charts, or the annual thyroid evaluations, while none knew the upper age limit to complete polysomnography evaluation. \u0000Conclusion: A majority of parents had varying degrees of awareness regarding the different comorbidities, type of evaluations to be done and the recommended timelines to screen for these conditions.

Due to the similarities in the clinical, imaging, and laboratory findings of many forms of autoimmune and infectious encephalitis, autoimmune encephalitis is frequently a difficult clinical diagnosis. Diagnosis of autoimmune encephalitis is based on the clinical course, serological evidence of autoimmunity, EEG changes, evidence of intrathecal inflammation in the cerebrospinal fluid and neuroimaging by MRI. In view of the suspected diagnosis of Autoimmune Encephalopathy with super refractory Status Epilepticus, Methylprednisolone was later added to the treatment. This case represents an interesting scenario of sero-negative encephalitis in which an early diagnosis could be made and treatment initiated in time.

It is most associated with travel to endemic areas but can occur sporadically in non-endemic areas. While the disease is more commonly seen in adults, it can occur in children, and the presentation can be variable. It is clinically difficult to differentiate Typhoid from Paratyphoid without isolation of organism. We present a case of a 5-year-old boy, from Telangana state of South India, who presented with watery diarrhea of 8 to 10 episodes per day and abdominal discomfort for 5 days. At presentation child had some dehydration and very poor oral intake. Child did not respond to standard acute gastroenteritis with some dehydration management and continued to have persistent loose watery stools. Routine blood investigations, urine and stool microscopy revealed normal study. Further evaluation in the second week of illness revealed paratyphi on stool culture, and the child started to respondwithsensitive antibiotic cefotaximeinjections after 3 days of starting. However the child did not have other classical symptoms caused by paratyphi, such as fever, vomiting, or rose spots. Other classical investigations like blood culture and urine culture were negative. This case highlights the importance of considering paratyphoid as a potential cause for persistent diarrhea, even in young children, and the importance of prompt diagnosis and treatment with appropriate antibiotics, especially in the absence of classical clinical or laboratory findings.

Although Serratia marcescens has low virulence, it causes nosocomial infections and outbreaks in extremely immunocompromised or critically ill patients, particularly in intensive care units, particularly neonatal units. This pathogen causes a wide range of clinical symptoms in newborns, including keratitis, conjunctivitis, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, surgical site infections, sepsis, bloodstream infection, and meningitis. The bloodstream is the most commonly infected location, followed by the respiratory tract and the gastrointestinal tract. Serratia marcescens strains implicated in epidemic events have often proven to be multiresistant. Indeed, this species has an inherent resistance to multiple antibiotic families. Often, the particular source of infection cannot be determined. However, infected hands of healthcare professionals are thought to be a key vector for its spread. Infection of the central nervous system by this bacterium in the neonatal period leads to serious neurological sequelae with high mortality interest of early and adequate management. Through our work we report the clinical presentation, the positive diagnosis as well as the therapeutic management and the evolution of a newborn having presented a meningitis with Serratia marcescens complicated by ventriculitis.

The symptoms include dermatological, abdominal, articular, and renal manifestations. HSP can occur due to several factors, such as upper respiratory tract infections, medications, vaccinations, and malignancies. The patient had positive COVID-19 serology but no other trigger factor for HSP, indicating a possible correlation between the two. The boy received oral prednisolone, leading to a swift clinical improvement. In this report, we review some particularities of KD disease, especially coronary involvement, and highlight its aspects during the COVID-19 epidemic which saw the emergence of a syndrome named multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). Because of its many similarities with KD, MIS-C is often referred to as Kawasaki-like disease (KLD) or pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 (PIMS-TS).We report on a retrospective study on the different epidemiological, clinical, and evolutionary aspects of KD and the coronary involvement resulting from this disease before and after the pandemic. The study is based on the echocardiography records of the P4 Department at Rabat Children’s Hospital, from January 2002 to December 2021. A total of 379 patients were diagnosed with KD during that period. This includes 47 cases that were reported during the first year of the COVID-19 epidemic in Morocco (March 2020). Echocardiography results for our series show that cardiac complications wererelatively more frequent among KD patients during the COVID-19 period, perhaps because they were relatively older (67 months on average) than classic KD patients (37 months on average). However, all patients had a favorable outcome after treatment with a combination of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and aspirin. The few patients who did not respond to standard treatment received corticosteroids, and no mortality occurred. We conclude that as far as cardiac complications,KD, KLD, and MIS-C are the same core disease that is triggered under different conditions for different age groups. The emergence of the Sars-Cov-2 virus changed the epidemiologic profile of KD but not its treatment. Insights from this study would help in the decision to initiate targeted immunotherapy quickly and reduce the risk factors associated with KD.
