We have evaluated the overall performance of a modern Broadwell architecture using a distributed and shared memory system. The performance has been tested based on the speedup gained after running the parallelized form of the various sequential programs. The analysis has been performed using the benchmark programs of an open source Parmibench suite. The speedups obtained by the parallel distribution of the processor cores compared to the sequential distribution have been observed. The key simulation prospects and features which need to be enhanced in the future products of the low power microprocessor family have been identified. Simulation results show that the low clock frequency processors provide both efficient processing capabilities along with reduced power consumption, after we compared them with a high clock frequency microprocessor.","PeriodicalId":390044,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Wireless Systems and Networks (ISWSN)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116229278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Effective management of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) becomes a formidable task with their increasing penetration at the distribution level. One of the technical challenges associated with the implementation of smartgrids is an effective protection strategy for grid connected and island mode. In this paper, we have proposed a wavelet based protection scheme for microgrids which is able to detect faults in gird connected and island mode of operation. The proposed protection scheme is independent of the variations in fault current magnitude. A microgrid model, consisting of renewable energy based DERs is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink to verify the effectiveness of the proposed wavelet based scheme.","PeriodicalId":390044,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Wireless Systems and Networks (ISWSN)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114562866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Per-energy capacity ratio is an energy efficiency (EE) metric. In this paper, it is used to compare the performances of wireless systems in macro-femto environment due to fading. The degradation in the per-energy capacity ratio due to fading is evaluated. The results show that deployment of the femtocells along with macrocells is energy efficient under non-fading and fading conditions. In addition, the degradation in the per-energy capacity is found to be a function of fading ratio in the chosen system, hence pointing to the importance of channel fading type.","PeriodicalId":390044,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Wireless Systems and Networks (ISWSN)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117083501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Imaging tools and image processing techniques are playing very vital role in the advancements of technology. Especially in the medical field where examination, diagnostics and analysis is always needed for better treatment of diseases by using effective imaging techniques e.g. X- ray imaging, ultrasounds, radiology, CT scans etc. For the detection of cancerous cells, these imaging devices are highly appreciable. The medical imaging devices used by the doctors are very costly due to which the cost of diagnosis is also increased. This paper reviews the techniques and methodologies adopted in the diagnosis of malfunctioning body parts and surgeries. The capabilities of smart sensing electronic gadget “Kinect” are presented over the expensive medical imaging equipment. It provides us two forms of outputs, RGB data and depth data of the under examination object or person. The study validates better identification of objects using kinect sensor as compared to earlier image capturing devices.","PeriodicalId":390044,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Wireless Systems and Networks (ISWSN)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127655353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The tag has a triangular geometry and is designed within a miniaturized footprint of 29 × 29 mm<sup>2</sup>. The proposed tag is capable of transmitting 38-bit data; which depicts that 2<sup>38</sup> number of different objects/items can be tagged. The tag is arranged in such a manner that each slot i.e., (metal gap) corresponds to a resonance dip or a logic state ‘1' in the radar cross-section (RCS) curve. Similarly, a shorted/removed slot corresponds to a logic state ‘0’. The tag has been realized for rigid as well as flexible substrates which include, Rogers RT/duroid<sup>®</sup>/5880, Rogers RT/duroid<sup>®</sup>/5870 (flexible) and Taconic TLX-0 with copper as the radiating material. The frequency range for Rogers RT/duroid<sup>®</sup>/5880 is 4.61–14.6 GHz, for Rogers RT/duroid<sup>®</sup>/5870 (flexible) is 4.7–14.8 GHz and is 4.6–14.5 GHz for Taconic TLX-0 substrate. Hence, the compact, flexible and high data dense passive chipless radio frequency identification (RFID) tag can be deployed in various businesses and internet of things (IoT) based smart applications.","PeriodicalId":390044,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Wireless Systems and Networks (ISWSN)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115214888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In calculation of optimal efficiency based on the mentioned factors, packet error rate is assumed to be constant. In the practical set-up of wireless LAN communication systems, the packet error rate is not constant and may vary from the theoretically determined value. Thus, optimization of the efficiency initially requires estimation of packet error rate and then subsequent calculation of optimal payload length and number of retransmissions. This paper discusses the calculation of the value of optimal payload length and retransmission rate that maximizes the channel efficiency, under variable packet error rate in wireless LAN communication systems. The proposed method of optimization involves two steps i.e. offline tabulation and online linear interpolation of the values of the optimal payload length and retransmissions corresponding to the packet error rate values. The simplicity of the proposed approach renders an easy and effective implementation. A minor issue involved in the practical application of the proposed method is also discussed.","PeriodicalId":390044,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Wireless Systems and Networks (ISWSN)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115370629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we report the performance of a new scheme for User Equipment-specific Reference Signals (UE-RS) channel estimation, which is 2 1- D Wiener filtering with linear interpolation as a less computationally complex scheme compared to 2-D Wiener filtering and interpolation. Simulations show that 2 1-D Wiener filtering with linear interpolation requires = 34% and = 2.6% of the number of computations needed by 2-D Wiener filtering with linear interpolation and Wiener interpolation, respectively. In addition, it was shown that 2 1-D Wiener filtering performance is sub-optimal when compared with the performance of 2-D Wiener filtering. Moreover, simulations indicate that the best noise reduction method is a combination of both averaging and Wiener filtering with linear interpolation, where the lower bound is a function of both SNR and the channel statistics.","PeriodicalId":390044,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Wireless Systems and Networks (ISWSN)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116355267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
