We earlier proposed a dynamic transmission capacity control scheme to reduce power consumption on the basis of changes in traffic volume. However, that scheme does not have a function to control the power-saving performance according to the required transmission quality. We propose a new scheme here that does consider the required connection quality. In this scheme, the required transmission capacity is determined in a way that satisfies a predetermined tolerance delay at a switch. Using simulation studies, including an evaluation with real traffic, we show that the proposed scheme enables efficient power saving without impairing the required transmission quality.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123026278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IEEE defines the IEEE 802.11p/1609.x protocol stack, also known as the Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment (WAVE) as vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-vehicle radio communication standard. Lots of researchers from academia and industry have focused on the topic for a long time. Most of them presented the performance evaluation of 802.11p on simulation platforms, but few available test-beds occur into our vision due to the high cost and low availability. In this case, great effort had been put to develop a test-bed using commercial off-the-shelf Alix3D3 system board, which consistently compliances with IEEE 802.11p/1609.X protocol standard. Furthermore, we have also evaluated the performance of the system in terms of average delay, delivery ratio and its support for WAVE application in real-world environments. Compared to the simulation platform, the results tested from different scenarios in real-world environments are more convictive. Overall, our main objective is to present a test-bed of 802.11p WAVE system, and provide a performance evaluation of the standard in real-world environments.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128856562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is an important issue to define the performance of cognitive radio network. In this paper we investigate the delay distribution of a simple and efficient MAC protocol previously proposed in the literature. This analysis is important to calculate a very important quality of service parameter: the probability of delay exceeding a given threshold. We verify the good behavior of the proposed protocol in terms of delay distribution and we validate the methodology used to estimate the delay distribution.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129118136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to provide mobility and guarantee bandwidth in a wide area, a handoff among access point (AP) is essential. However, the IEEE 802.11 handoff using hard-handoff may easily lose connection, and it wastes much time on recognizing the connection severance and channel search time of re-connection. Such a wasted time can cause problems for multimedia data transmission. In order to solve this problem, we use GPS information to calculate the expected capacity using location, direction, velocity and RSSI information, in advance. Therefore, we suggest a handoff algorithm that uses the expected capacity to guarantee bandwidth. We implemented the suggested algorithm and experimentally verified the performance of the algorithm.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123764996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We examine the effectiveness of two topic modeling techniques i.e., standard Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and semantic-based Joint Multi-grain Topic-Sentiment (JMTS) in Twitter trends extraction. In addition, we also examine the frequent phrase method. Our finding reveals that JMTS significantly outperforms frequent phrase method and LDA by 54% and 24%, respectively.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126289510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a receiver-initiated MAC protocol with packet train for UWSNs called multi-receiver MAC (MR-MAC) protocol. Our protocol will increase of the throughput and reduce of the transmission of control packet for handshaking. Our MR-MAC protocol can make more than two nodes to communicate in one handshake held by a main receiver. By scheduling the packet transmission time, the data packet will be sent in a packet train manner and the receiver can receive data packet without collision. Our simulation results show that our protocol can increase the throughput and decrease the packet delay than the other existing MAC protocols.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126578963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially with incorporating multiple orthogonal channels and multiple directional antennas into the WMN, each node can communicate with its neighbor nodes simultaneously without interference between them. In addition, due to directional antennas, the interference range of each transmission can be significantly reduced and we can further utilize the frequency separation. Hence, we can improve the throughput of the WMN significantly with multiple orthogonal channels and multiple directional antennas. In this paper, we study a joint channel and flow assignment problem for the WMN with multiple channels and multiple directional antennas. We first formulate an optimization problem as a mixed integer optimization problem that aims at maximizing the network utility. Since it is inherently hard to solve the mixed integer optimization problem, we propose a heuristic algorithm to solve the problem. The simulation results show our heuristic algorithm provides a reasonable performance in terms of the network utility compared to its upper bound.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126188924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are two critical methods in data aggregation: Directed Diffusion in flat networks, and Tree-Based Data Aggregation in hierarchical networks. However, each data aggregation method has problems in multiple-sink environments. In Directed Diffusion, even if one sink has already reinforced a high-quality path to the sink, other nodes continue to receive exploratory events. In Tree-based Data Aggregation with multiple sinks, high energy-transmission costs are needed to make a tree for each sink node. Both waste much energy-transmission costs. In this paper, we propose Data Aggregation with multiple sinks in an Information-Centric Wireless Sensor Network, which can complement the drawbacks of each data aggregation method. In an IP-based network, it overloads the sensor while considering the number of sensor nodes and data process capacity. We suggest an ID-based information-centric network instead of an IP-based network, which can reduce the energy-transmission cost. We analyzed the energy-transmission cost in a multiple-sink environment in comparison to Directed Diffusion, Tree-based Data Aggregation, and Data Aggregation in an Information-Centric Wireless Sensor Network.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126967604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The health status of humans can be tracked and monitored using wearable and non-wearable sensor devices. Security in WBAN is very important to guarantee and protect the patient's personal sensitive data and establishing secure communications between BAN sensors and external users is key to addressing prevalent security and privacy concerns. In this paper, we propose secure and efficient key management scheme based on ECC algorithm to protect patient's medical information in healthcare system. Our scheme divided into three phases as setup, registration, verification and key exchange. And we use the identification code which is the SIM card number on a patient's smart phone with the private key generated by the legal use instead of the third party. Also to prevent the replay attack, we use counter number at every process of authenticated message exchange to resist.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126985160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose to study a fast LMMSE channel estimation technique for LTE Downlink systems based on a fast solver for linear system with displacement structure which is based on the application of the Generalized Schur Algorithm (GSA) which costs only O(N2) floating operations and O(N) memory locations. We propose two fast LMMSE channel estimators. The first algorithm is without pivoting which requires the LU factorization. In order to avoid this requirement and for stability issues, we propose a second fast algorithm with partial pivoting technique and without changing the algorithm complexity. The performances of proposed fast algorithms in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) and Mean Square Error (MSE) are verified via Monte-Carlo MATLAB simulations.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131307293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
