Many of these algorithms, such as sensorless position detection, require precise motor models. The standard model normally used in real-time algorithms is not always able to model hybrid stepper motors sufficiently precisely. In this paper new extension are made to the electrical model to improve its performance whilst maintaining relatively low computational complexity.","PeriodicalId":387839,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127456514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The electrical environment within HPT's ultimately prevents use of wired thermometers, as thermo-couples or diodes which rely on electrical bias. This is the case of sine-fitting algorithms, which are used to determine the sine wave parameters that best fit an acquired signal. In the case of signals with multiple harmonics, one can use a multi-harmonic fitting algorithm resembling the sine-fitting algorithm to estimate the amplitudes and phases of the harmonics. This paper describes the implementation of a LS multi-harmonic fitting algorithm using the multicore Cell processor to determine the fundamental frequency of a multi-harmonic signal and then the harmonic amplitudes and phases.","PeriodicalId":387839,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126844639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, with the trajectory of aircraft design, planes will soon be constructed not with aluminum skin, which fits well with the reverberation chamber model, but with composite skin. It is not clear that a reverberation chamber constructed from composite materials will in fact reverberate. This study seeks to fill this void by constructing a carbon-fiber composite chamber and evaluating its reverberation characteristics through direct measurement. The results of the study can then be used to establish the validity of the reverberant assumption for carbon-fiber composite airframes. Chamber quality metrics such as the Max-to-Average Ratio (MAR) test and the Coefficient of Variation (CV) test are presented from 3 GHz to 6 GHz along with representative single frequency distributions. Measurement data from the chamber is in good agreement with theoretical values.","PeriodicalId":387839,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122609171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is designed to meet the requirements of the traffic application, such as a very wide dynamic range of the input signal, accurate timing detection and the possibility for detecting several successive pulses that may be caused by rain or mirror reflections, for example. The receiver operates on the leading edge timing discrimination principle. The input amplitude-dependent timing error is compensated for by measuring the pulse length with a multi-channel TDC and knowing the relation between the error and the pulse length. A timing accuracy of ± 10ps (±1.5mm in distance) within a dynamic range of 1:2 000 was achieved.","PeriodicalId":387839,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129561427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While Zero-IF is beneficial for integration, several inherent analog impairments place a limit on the achievable dynamic range. The most dominant non-idealities are gain and phase imbalance in the IQ branches, mixer nonlinearity, and DC Offset. In the case of IQ Imbalance, careful receiver design can at best achieve an Image Rejection Ratio (IRR) of 30-40 dB. Also, IQ imbalance tends to be frequency-dependent with increasing bandwidth (BW). It has to be investigated, whether sophisticated digital post-processing is able to deliver a dynamic range sufficient for Pulse-Doppler Radar. After establishing some theoretical background and proposing digital correction methods, we will present hardware measurements of frequency-dependent IQ imbalance made on a Zero-IF receiver with large bandwidth. Despite significant improvements can be achieved using an offline calibration, time-varying drifts due to temperature changes will degrade the achievable IRR. Therefore adaptive circularity-based algorithms should be applied to track those changes. However, Radar Chirp signals at complex baseband (BB) cannot be used directly, as they are not circular. To restore the circularity for estimating the Complementary Autocorrelation Function (CACF), we propose applying a digital band-stop to the operational data beforehand. Highly increased IRR values are technically feasible: Digital Assistance acting jointly with state-of-the-art RF circuit design can pave the way for adequate performance in integrated receiver solutions.","PeriodicalId":387839,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124761087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For each input-output path, the linear dynamics are modeled by a set of orthonormal basis functions (OBFs). The static nonlinearity is modeled through a multivariate polynomial. The parameters of the model are the coefficients of this polynomial. In this paper, an identification procedure for SISO (single input single output) Wiener systems is extended towards MISO Wiener systems. The poles of the OBFs are estimated using an extension of the best linear approximation (BLA) towards MIMO (multiple input multiple output) systems. As the number of parameters can increase significantly compared to the SISO case, a parameter reduction step, first developed for the SISO case, is extended in this paper to the MISO case. In each set of OBFs, one OBF is replaced by the BLA of the input-output path corresponding to that set. It is shown that in this way the number of relevantly contributing terms in the multivariate polynomial is significantly reduced. Simulation results show a major reduction of the number of parameters, with only a minor increase in the rms error on the simulated output.","PeriodicalId":387839,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129468447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Instrumentation and control of a high power BLDC motor for small vehicle applications","authors":"A. Rowe, G. Sen Gupta, S. With rapid developments in technology, high energy density batteries such as Lithium-ion Polymer batteries are becoming more affordable and highly suitable for such vehicles due to the superior charge rate and light weight of the lithium chemistry batteries. This combined with the high power, light weight, and low cost BLDC motor results in the BLDC motor being a very favourable solution over an internal combustion engine for low power vehicles with power requirements of up to 7kW. A BLDC motor controller was developed specifically for the motorised mountain board application. The motor controller is a sensored BLDC motor controller which takes inputs from Hall Effect sensors to determine the rotor position. Many other sensors are used to monitor the variables that are critical to the operation of the motor controller such as the motor phase current, battery voltage, motor temperature, and transistor temperature. The reported system is further enhanced by several additional features such as output for an LCD screen, regenerative braking, timing advance, cruise control, and soft start functions. These topics are discussed briefly in this paper.","PeriodicalId":387839,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130521039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
