In Poland, due to its special status, a privileged car behaves in a substantially different way than a plain car. As a result, \"privileged\" routes should also considerably differ. In the paper, we propose a solution that combines road data and a behavior model, able to determine such routes. A number of presented case studies confirms our solution works and gives reasonable results -- routes that are faster and more flexible than routes for unprivileged vehicles.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"129 27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122066371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Standard risk metrics like volatility or downside risk are deconstructed into five general sub-functions for reference, selection, penalization, normalization and re-dimensioning. The advantage of this approach is its flexibility, allowing modeling a wide range of risk perceptions in numerous application fields of discrete event simulation. Several further risk types like upside risk, outside risk, transition risk, critical state risk or countermovement risk are describable and embeddable as special cases of generalized deviation. These risk types are presented with respect to motivation, specification of relevant generalized deviation components, description of application classes, application examples and graphical illustrations. In particular, various options for determining reference states, reference selection and penalty functions are discussed. Implementation features of the generalized deviation metric in the discrete event simulation framework DESMO-J are outlined. Moreover, possible structural extensions as well as additionally implementable risk types are delineated, indicating further application potential and the flexible scope of this approach. It is proposed to complement descriptive standard statistics in discrete event simulation domains by additionally employing risk measurement in terms of generalized deviation as explicated here, to facilitate assessment of undesired simulation dynamics in various application fields.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123835488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A study of falling film evaporation and condensation models is presented in this document. Two different evaporator models and a condenser model are being developed considering a trade-off between efficiency and accuracy. These models are based on classical Newton's viscosity law and Nusselt falling film theory. Two libraries, with evaporator and condenser components, compatible with Modelica. Fluid, Modelica. Thermal and Modelica. Media have been implemented. The presented simulations have the expected behaviour. These models will be used to complete a model of a heat pump.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130599543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two major multicasting algorithms are analyzed using energy-fficiency as metric. The performance of these algorithms is evaluated and optimized using combined methods: simulation and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. These approaches are combinations of methods from different disciplines. The first method has been considered for measuring network effectiveness through simulations, while the second method is based on data envelopment analysis for measuring network relative efficiency. This paper focuses on the DEA method, which is a non-parametric technique that is based on linear programming. The technique has been used in the Operations Research (OR) and economics communities to study the relative efficiency of systems with multiple inputs and outputs. Two types of DMUs are assumed for multicast networks. First, the network size is varied. and second the multicast group is varied. It is found that RLNC algorithm show better energy efficiency performance than MIP algorithm for all DMUs that are considered.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"48 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120909286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we investigate the inefficiency of the conventional decision feedback algorithm when higher-level modulation is used in Inter Symbol Interference channels. We estimates the data using the apriori information from the SISO channel decoder and also the a priori detected data from previous iteration to minimize error propagation. The proposed algorithm for 8-phase shift keying, 16-phase shift keying and 64 quadrature amplitude modulation was verified by assuming a statistical model for the a priori information combined with equalizer output to improve the interference cancellation. The simulation results show that the proposed low complexity DFE algorithm improves considerable compared to the conventional DFE when higher-level modulation are used. It was shown that at higher level modulation, the modified DEF has 1.6dB gain over the conventional DEF after seven iterations.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127031673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As velocity is calculated as distance per time, the accuracy and reliability of PWV measurements depends heavily on the estimation of the pulse transit time (PTT). Several methods for the estimation of the PTT exist, often resulting in different PWV values. They rely on the exact determination of specific points in the pulse wave, which are easily affected by small changes of the signal. As there is still no agreement on the accuracy of these methods, only the reliability and stability of these commonly used \"foot-to-foot\" algorithms are compared in this paper. These algorithms are based on the detection of the diastole-minimum, the maximum of the first or second derivative or combinations thereof. We also adapted a new approach called \"diastole-patching\" based on the matching of a specific region of the pulse waves. The methods were tested using 2348 pulse waves from the MIMIC Database, collected from 46 subjects. Intra-subject deviation and relative outliers per subject were lowest in the adapted diastole-patching algorithm (4.9 ± 3ms and 0.6 ± 2.7%, respectively). Therefore, this study has shown that the diastole-patching method is the most stable and reliable of the algorithms under investigation.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117041650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These novel methods may be categorised into two broad groups, namely: straightforward (or direct) inference methods based on power-law models; and a jacobian based indirect inference method. The direct method involves applying direct means to infer a power-law model from time series data. The indirect method, however, uses a new system identification method to first infer a jacobian model as instant and temporal solution to the inverse problem before recasting the inferred jacobian model to corresponding power-law model using our newly developed recast technique. The recast method, in addition to normal behaviour, also provides a novel analytical technique for integrating power-law and jacobian models together. The modelling approach we have developed extends previous work on matrix-based network inference to model interoperability and multiple model transformation in terms of finding two distinct models (solutions) to an inverse problem.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"38 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124079045","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The composition and flow rates of industrial wastewater fluctuate depending on the production schedules of the upstream processes. A lot of process measurements are available, but measurement sets do not include sufficient information on the special features of the influent nor on the microbial composition of the sludge. The populations of microorganisms have an essential effect on the operation of the treatment process. Basic dynamic simulation is done with linguistic equation (LE) models, where interactions are handled with linear equations, and nonlinearities are taken into account by scaling functions. Intelligent indices provide useful information for the detection of process conditions and the system, which consists of three interactive models: load, biomass population and treatment. Process insight is maintained while data-driven tuning relates the measurements to the operating areas. A wide range of operating conditions is handled with a multimodel system and a fuzzy decision module, which defines the weights of the subsystems. Hybrid models with a cascade approach are needed in biological wastewater treatment to cover different operating conditions.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115574625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OLSIMv4 gathers its traffic information from microscopic traffic simulations that are based on loop detector data. The simulations take advantage of the topological road traffic network information such as speed limits, lane closings or mergings, and overtaking restrictions. As a result OLSIMv4 is prepared to use dynamic traffic information as provided by variable traffic signs and traffic or road works messages. Additionally, OLSIMv4 exploits thread-level parallelism on multi-core machines using a coarse-grained parallel simulation model. Moreover, it substitutes nonexistent and faulty loop detector data with calculated values in order to provide failure-safety. Its simulation results are available for four varying time horizons and they are in good accordance with empirical findings even in scenarios with larger distances between subsequent loop detectors.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"92 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114086977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The spraying system uses direct injection technology which allow the of different chemicals in a single application, reducing the waste of chemicals and thereby minimizing the toxicology and environmental risks associated with carrier-chemical mix preparation and discharge. In addiction, a predictive control strategy to adjust the carrier-chemical mix and chemical flow rates is proposed. To obtain the model and analyse the control strategy, a facility for site-specific application of chemicals which includes a laboratory scale sprayer test bench was designed and built. The automation of this system was based on a programmable automation controller suitable for control, acquisition and timing applications. With the predictive control approach, the errors of the carrier-chemical mix and chemical flow rates were lower than the admissible level of 5%. Practical results are presented to validate the models and show the efficiency of the control strategy proposed.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127175411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
