The type of sample used was venous blood with EDTA anticoagulants. Currently there is a hematology analyzer which analyses capillary blood for routine hematological parameters. This research aims to determine the feasibility of capillary blood samples as an alternative sample on routine hematological parameters using Medonic M-series M32. The method used in this research was comparative analytic cross sectional. Venous and capillary blood from 70 healthy students of D-IV MLT Health Polytechnic of Jakarta III was used in this research. The researchers took 3 mL of venous blood and 20 μL of capillary blood. Then, the researchers performed the routine hematological parameters on the hematology analyzer. The results were calculated using independent t test (normal data distribution) or Mann-Whitney test (abnormal data distribution). The hypothesis used was 90% of interval confidence (α = 0.1). The results of significant difference test shows the probability value (p) on parameters Hb, Ht, leukocyte and erythrocytes count were more than α (0.1). Thus, there is no significant difference between venous and capillary blood for the parameters. The p value for platelet count is less than α (0.1), and as the results, it shows that there is significant difference between venous and capillary blood samples. The conclusions of this research are capillary blood can be used as an alternative sample for the parameters hemoglobin, hematocrit, leukocyte and erythrocytes count using hematology analyzer Medonic M-series M32. The condition tends to be worse if it is not treated properly, which will cause poor pregnancy outcome. Some brewed herbs including cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg can be used as mouthwash to relieve nausea and vomiting, however there were lack of study to prove its efficacy. This study was aimed to determine the effectiveness of brewed herbs (cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg) mouthwash in dealing with morning sickness among pregnant women. This is a quantitative – pre experiment study with one group pretestpostest design, held in the work area of Candiroto Subdistrict Public Health Center-Temanggung Regency. A total sampling was conducted with 45 respondents. Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis/Nausea (PUQE) index was used as measurement tool, and Wilcoxon statistical test was applied. The result showed both brewed clove and nutmeg were effective in overcoming morning sickness (p-value 0.001 and 0.016 respectively; z-score -3.426 and -2.401 respectively), while cinnamon was not (p-value 0.19, z-score -1.604). The PUQE-score mean difference for clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon were 6.47; 0.93; and 0.53 respectively. It can be inferred that clove is the most effective herb in overcoming morning sickness compared to nutmeg and cinnamon. It is recommended for pregnant women to use brewed clove as mouthwash in alleviating morning sickness. Health practitioners were suggested to promote the use of brewed clove in dealing with morning sickness. There is an opportunity for the health office in collaboration with local herbal industry to develop nonpharmacological product such as clove mouthwash to treat morning sickness.","PeriodicalId":386583,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Health Sciences (ICHS 2018)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129968966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
