Epidemiological modeling was used to estimate the trend of outbreak tendencies based on epidemic data. The goal of this work was to create a realistic model for estimating DHF occurrences using monthly data from the department of disease control, ministry of public health, Thailand from 2010 to 2019. SARIMA model with the Box-Jenkins approach was conducted to forecast dengue incidence using the previous data. Bayesian Information Criteria (BIC), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) were used to determine their accuracy. The result shows that the SARIMA(2,0,1)(1,0,0)12 model fits the Nakhon Si Thammarat pandemic data the best. Their accuracy had the smallest BIC, MAPE, and RMSE yielding 9.64, 848.743, and 214.661, respectively. The DHF ARIMA model is necessary and may be used to forecast the incidence of DHF in other locations as well as help in the development of public health initiatives to prevent and treat the condition.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"55 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139348617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study is to determine the factors predicting the QoL of the caregivers who took care of end stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis people. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 210 caregivers providing services to patients suffering from end stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis in Yangon, Myanmar. Purposive sampling was performed to selection the participants and the data were collected by using self-administered questionnaires. Hierarchical linear regression was performed with the QoL as dependent variable and three blocks of predictors (the first block; burden, the second block; caregiver's age and monthly family income, and the third block; marital status and relationships with patients). The study found that caregiver’s burden and age negatively and significantly affected the QoL whereas monthly family income positively affected the QoL. The best model was [Quality of life = ?0 + ?1 (level of burden) + ?2 (caregiver’s age) + ?3 (caregiver’s monthly family income)] where ?0, ?1, ?2 and ?3 were 98.135, (-0.395), (-0.149) and 0.010 respectively. One of the primary factors contributing to the high transmission of the virus among the HIV-positive population, particularly men who have sex with men (MSM), is their practice of risky behavior. To address this issue, it is crucial to optimize social capital, including both structural and cognitive dimensions, to prevent the transmission of the disease and its progression to the advanced stage (AIDS). Therefore, this study aimed to explain the impact of social capital on in the prevention of HIV transmission among the MSM population with HIV-positive. This qualitative study was conducted in Jember, Indonesia, using a grounded theory approach between April and September 2021. Data were collected using in-depth interviews with 12 HIV-positive MSM obtained using purposive sampling. This study found that social networks were formed through community activities and associations built from participation in social activities, focused on improving the structural dimension of social capital. In the cognitive dimension, trust among HIV-positive peers was related to adherence to ARV treatment, including prevention and transmission. By providing information through both structural and cognitive dimensions, social capital can effectively prevent HIV transmission among MSM HIV-positive and serve as a behavior model in the prevention of the progression to AIDS. Therefore, the education of peers can be developed based on this social capital, providing a basis for effective interventions.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"104 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139348598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a narrow pipe filled with dried tobacco leaves and is mixed with herbs, spices, or at times with a bark knownas 'dhoka' (meaning 'dizzy' in Arabic). The purpose of the current study is to determine the prevalence and behaviour ofMedwakh smoking among the general population of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. For this objective, the authorsconducted a descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional study. The three main outcomes were never smokers, currentsmokers (6 months or older) and the number of Medwakh smoked per day. Smoking behaviour, sociodemographic factorsand the attitudes of the study participants were assessed in this study. The outcomes from the regression models identifiedthe association between each outcome measure and age, gender, income, education level, marital status, smoking for ?6months, and parental and peer smoking. The prevalence of the current Medwakh intervention in Abu Dhabi was found tobe 22.5%. The average age at which the respondents started smoking was 25 years. Daily Medwakh users smoked a medianof 3.0 per day. The highest prevalence rate for Medwakh smoking was reported among men (29.9%), single individuals(24.2%), and younger age groups (18–37 years-37.5%) with bachelor's degrees (29.3%). The same outcome was also trueamong the users, who smoked for more than 6 months (41.9%) and the participants who had colleagues or parents withsmoking habit. The study also found income differences among the study participants. The awareness about damagereduction was extremely high among the Medwakh users (78.8%). No participant reported that they were denied a Medwakhpurchase on the basis of their age. Medwakh is considered as a herbal substance with no health hazard in Abu Dhabi, UnitedArab Emirates and is prevalently consumed at high rates. It has also heavily burdened the perceptions of harm. Furtherresearch into smoking behaviour is needed to determine the rest of the variables that heavily influence the smokingdecisions.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135135126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of them have multiple comorbidities including diabetes. The diabetic control in elderly is usually challenging. Their quality of life and socioeconomic condition either in rural or urban area could affect their disease progress. This study aims to measure the diabetic control and its associated factors, including quality of life among the older population with diabetes in three different districts of Malaysia. The patients’ health and background details were recorded. Validated Malay version of diabetes quality of life questionnaire was used. 485 elderly diabetic patients were recruited based on two proportion formula comprising all clinics in those districts representing urban vs rural area. Data were analyzed using simple and multiple logistic regression for the association. Only 30.5% of the patients have good diabetic control with patients in Kuala Terengganu district achieved better sugar control (p < 0.001). However, the only significant diabetic control predictor is the quality of life of the elderly patients (OR = 1.32, CI 1.047 – 1.224). Level of diabetes control in these three districts are poor, concomitant with the poor control of the elderly non-communicable disease profiles. It is essential to embark on holistic approach in dealing with the elderly diabetic management and identify measures to improve quality of life in those with poor glycaemic control in order to have better disease outcome.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135135127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Participants were purposively sampled and assigned to either a control group (n=34) or an intervention group (n=34) using a matched-pair technique. The intervention group underwent an 8-week educational program through the Line application and tele-counseling, while the control group received no intervention. Results demonstrated a significant improvement in both dietary knowledge and behavior scores in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Specifically, the post-test average scores for dietary knowledge in the experimental group increased from 14.76 (SD = 2.72) to 17.97 (SD = 1.59), while the control group's average scores were 14.85 (SD = 2.87). For dietary behavior, the post-test average scores in the experimental group improved from 1.21 (SD = 0.32) to 1.90 (SD = 0.48), compared to 1.29 (SD = 0.29) in the control group. The findings suggest that using the Line application, a popular communication platform in Thailand, in conjunction with tele-counseling can effectively enhance the nutritional knowledge and dietary behavior of Caregivers of ESRD patients. Healthcare professionals should consider implementing such interventions to improve the overall nutritional status and well-being of Caregivers of ESRD patients on hemodialysis.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135135306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Women's life expectancy is intrinsically linked to maternal and child health. All other states in Malaysia recorded rising life expectancies for both women and men except for Sabah, which is the country's poorest state with the highest non-citizen population. This study aimed to understand the demography, case characteristics and causes of maternal mortality in Sabah from 2015 through 2020. Data analyses were performed using Microsoft Excel. A total of 371 maternal deaths were reviewed. The mean age of the women who died was 30 years, and the majority (20.2%) were gravida 2. 72.78% were non-citizens of Malaysia, with 26.95% Malaysian citizens. Majority of deceased women, 56.7%, never attended antenatal visits prior to their death in the latest pregnancy. Overall, 63.88% deaths were due to direct obstetric causes, postpartum haemorrhage was the leading direct cause of death (24.53%), and most of the maternal deaths (65.5%) were preventable. There is evidence that further emphasized the importance of increasing access towards quality antenatal care and skilled birth attendants during delivery, especially for non-citizens of Malaysia. This which calls for intersectoral collaboration to ensure affordable, quality antenatal, delivery and family planning services for non-citizens of Malaysia. There has been little focus on men who have ventured beyond the traditional gender limits and ventured into what has been labelled as feminine roles. Therefore, this study examined male nurses' character as caregivers in public hospitals in Selangor. The research employed the descriptive research design, which is used to gather quantitative data. The sample size was calculated to be 88 male nurses. The respondents were obtained from 6 selected public hospitals in Selangor. The study focuses on the method of motivation needed to enter the nursing field, the importance of rewarding male nurses, and self-evaluation as they work in a sector dominated by a female. Perception of the male nurses about their profession (62%) mentioned that they did not find any advantage when compared with female nurses. Respondents from this study (63.3%) were very confident in their full abilities to perform their duties. As the health care profession is thriving, this sector needs serious attention, mainly for male nurses' development, and action needs to be taken for more males venturing into this nursing profession. Policy from government and nursing colleges needs to be revised for better policy outcomes for the male gender to involve themselves in nursing. Further studies are highly encouraged for psychological aspects of how males deal with the female-dominated sector.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139348626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
