The decision making based on the reports of fragile and fallible sensor nodes might be very unreliable and, therefore, might fail to accomplish the tasks of WSNs. Previously, the reduction in the effects of faults is based on collaborative effort of a large number of sensor nodes. The collaborative work may consume valuable power and may fail as sensor nodes are severely affected by environmental interference. In this paper, instead of the neighborhood communication and pure data fusion, the collaborative effort in decision making is accomplished based on the fault probability estimation, reading variance estimation, and critical value adjustment. The fault probability of sensor nodes is computed by their reports and the t-out-of-n rule to make reliable decisions. The reading variance is estimated by well-known sample variance to assess the effects of environmental interference. The critical value adjustment is triggered as estimated reading variance changed, high fault probability, or decision quality unsatisfied to reduce the bias of fault probability.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133002612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But very few works among of these huge research works specially consider disaster mitigation and rescue operation after disaster. Considering the effects of disaster, we have to develop a data collection framework for disaster mitigation and rescue operation; and a lower delay based energy efficient WSN protocol for data dissemination from disaster areas as well. In this paper, we propose a data collection framework for disaster mitigation and rescue operation. In addition, a WSN protocol for rescue operation is proposed in this paper. We simulate the performance of the protocol based on proposed framework and compare the performance of the protocol with that of SENDROM [1] system protocol, where our proposed protocol outperforms the SENDROM protocol.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133296040","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These multimedia services become key applications in home networks, but the bandwidth requirements for these multimedia services grow up rapidly. Thus how to provide a certain degree of Quality of Services (QoS) for the multimedia applications in edge routers is an important issue. The framework of differentiated services (DiffServ) is able to provide QoS by means of packet classifications, flow aggregation and scheduling mechanisms. In the paper a DiffServ edge router is implemented on the Intel IXP425 network processor platform. Network processors are emerging as a programmable alternative to the traditional ASIC-based solutions in scaling up the user-plane processing of network services. The performance of the implemented DiffServ edge router is evaluated by experiments. Experimental results demonstrate the validation of the implemented system.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133318504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

NLOS error is considered one of the major error sources in range estimation and wireless location systems. To improve time-based location accuracy in UWB location systems, an NLOS identification and mitigation technique is derived. Kalman filters (KFs) are used for smoothing range data and mitigating the NLOS errors. We combine the modified biased Kalman filter and a sliding window to identify and mitigate different degree of NLOS errors. The simulation results show that the change of NLOS/LOS status can be identified accordingly and the NLOS errors can be mitigated effectively by modified biased Kalman filter. The technique achieves high accuracy in range estimation for UWB positioning and tracking.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132406405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed filter topology employs a PIN diode as the switching device, facilitating the use of two capacitors in a semi-lumped resonator with a specified ratio of capacitances, to realize various frequency switching ratios. A dual band external Q approach is introduced to improve the input/output matching in both bands. The presented topology enables the integration of the filter in a multi-layer circuit for miniaturized implementation.
