Real-time handover is a very important capability for mobile learning devices since the interruptions caused by handover make learners feel frustrated and lose their interests, which in turn resulting in less engagement in mobile learning. In this paper, we propose a collaborative seamless handover approach, called LCSH, suitable for real-time communications between heterogeneous wireless environments. LCSH takes not only spatial factors into account but also the potential benefits of collaborative work given by adjacent mobile nodes which can be identified by the spatial location information. Simulations show that LCSH consistently outperforms existing handover policies and significantly extends mobile clients' uninterrupted communication.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115253497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The chaotic module was based on Chua's circuit and it has been realized from inductor, capacitor, resistor, and non-linear negative resistor. The negative non-linear resistor was constructed from resistors and operational amplifier. Chaotic masking technique has been selected as a mean of chaotic data modulation whereas synchronization relies on Pecora-Carroll technique. The chaotically-modulated signal has been further frequency modulated to frequency centered at 9 MHz making the system immune to non-linearity of the communication channel. Such frequency modulation process was achieved by voltage-controlled oscillator inside 74HC4046 IC. On the receiving end, the FM demodulation was performed by employing phase-locked loop technique. Measured results of the presented radio system are also given.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122151066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

New computer models had been developed for representation of the renewal digital-based excitation system in transient stability studies after IEEE Std 421.5 [2] adoption. This paper provides a guide line for replacement of the excitation control system from analog-based to digital-based. These techniques had been used on large steam generator excitation systems of a nuclear power plant in Taiwan. An optimal set of excitation system settings plays a very important role in power system stability. This paper will address the parameters setting and field tuning method for a self-excited exciter rewired to be separated-excited with station auxiliary power. The performance indices were also checked and compared with IEEE Std 421.2[3].","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129932493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the proposed algorithm, only the points falling into a sub-set of constellation are selected as the candidates for each transmitted signal and included in the squared Euclidean distance calculation. Unlike the existing algorithms where the sub-set is fixed based on quadrant, the sub-set here is determined by the circle with center at the signal estimate and a pre-determined radius. By computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed QRM-ML algorithm can achieve the performance close to that of the existing QRM-ML algorithms with significantly reduced complexity.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128470948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the motion-compensated temporal filtering (MCTF) structure consumes a large amount of operation time when combined with Core Experiment 2 (CE2), which implements adaptive GOP detection (AGD). In this paper, we suggest a video content variation (VCV) feature to implement fast AGD method by using block-based classification before executing MCTF. Based on the JSVM 7.0 software, the simulation results show that the proposed method reduces about 67% of the operation time consumed on average as compared to the CE2.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"326 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129431170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A smart card program is state-oriented or a state machine, which accepts pre-defined events and performs state transitions. The communication states of a smart card program are defined such that only \"authorized\" surfing targets could exchange messages. A pre-defined access control list (ACL), stored in the card, is the definition of permit or deny access that applies to addresses and/or protocols. The acceptance or rejection message is determined by matching the card program state and the ACL. In addition, a complete surfing account for tracing back is recorded. It is a by-product of the smart card authentication.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123836787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four binary Reed-Muller codes are used as the BCM component codes to construct a 16-QAM OFDM code, which is then decomposed into the direct sum of a correcting subcode for encoding information bits and a scrambling subcode for encoding PAPR bits. Different scrambling subcodes in natural and cyclic ordering are considered respectively.
