The increasing number of codecs makes the situation even more perplexing for users trying to find the best audio codec that consumes the least electricity for playing on handheld devices. In this paper, we propose some criteria for users to find the optimal audio codes from energy analyses of them on handheld devices. Various experiments have been conducted to investigate the effects from choices of codecs and codec parameters.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121319990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The new construction supports larger code cardinality (i.e., more subscribers) and heavier code weight (i.e., better code performance or more simultaneous users) without increasing the code length or number of wavelengths. The antenna consists of a planar rectangle-semicircle-rectangle shape patch, a coplanar waveguide type feed, and rectangle-shaped slot. By inserting a thin slot on the rectangle-semicircle-rectangle radiating element, the band-rejected function has been created very close to the desired frequency. The band-reject frequency of the proposed antenna can be adjusted by controlling the slot length and width. An omnidirectional radiation pattern is also obtained. The overall size of the printed antenna is 26 times 35 times 1.6 mm3 which is very compact, low profile and can be integrated on the Ultra-wideband transceiver. The iris images captured from the same person or different persons differ in size due to illumination variations and other factors. The iris recognition system is composed of many steps. Namely, capturing the iris patterns; determining the location of the iris boundaries; converting the iris boundary to the polar coordinate system; extracting the iris code based on wavelet transforms; and classification of the iris code. There are many methods proposed for iris recognition by many researchers. The proposed system based on dual tree complex wavelet transform for iris recognition system with high performance and acceptance/rejection capabilities is described.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124799014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wide angle scanning can be achieved by introducing Abbe sine condition to dielectric lens surface shaping. Authors designed a dielectric lens antenna that could achieve beam scanning over plusmn30deg. Narrow beam widths were maintained on a scanning plane. However, beam widths on a transverse plane were broadened when beams were scanned over plusmn20deg. And the broaden beam caused a decrease of scanned beam's directive gain. In this paper, cluster feeds are proposed in order to correct beam broadening on a transverse plane. First of all, the reason of the beam broadening is shown to be phase delays appeared in the antenna aperture plane. In order to compensate the phase delay, the phase advance characteristic is determined in the radiation pattern of the feed. Then the achievement of the phase advance by a radiation pattern synthesis of cluster feeds is introduced. Here, designing radiation phase characteristics is very special trial and effectiveness is not clear. As the first step of designing, the excitation coefficients of the cluster feeds are obtained through LMS (Least Mean Square) method. Next, radiation amplitude and phase patterns of the cluster feed are obtained. By comparing the objective and designed phase patterns, effectiveness of applying radiation pattern synthesis is anticipated. Finally, improvements of beam shapes on a transverse plane and directive gains of scanning beams are shown.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125146172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of resource competing and run-time characteristics of threads, system resources are not sufficiently utilized. Considering necessary factors, a powerful instruction fetch mechanism can alleviate the adverse effects through appropriately fetch as many compatible instructions as possible. In this paper, the effects of instruction fetch policy on SMT performance are analyzed in detail, and a modified instruction fetch control mechanism is proposed. In this mechanism, a ready thread buffer is introduced in. With hardware list pointer structure, the buffer can be dynamically allotted. Further, the instruction fetch process is divided into two steps, and they deal with wrong branch prediction and instruction queue clog issues separately. Our instruction fetch control mechanism increase IPC for 9.39% over an unmodified SMT processor with ICOUNT2.8 policy. This speedup is enhanced by an advantage of considering main factors separately, the ability to favor for fetch those threads most efficiently using the processor each cycle, thereby, providing the \"best\" instructions to the processor.","PeriodicalId":384583,"journal":{"name":"TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123780642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
