Various vocal sounds are generated by the complex movements of speaker's vocal organs, and this mechanism contributes to generate different voices that include speech expressions and speaker's individuality. This paper introduces several approaches to speech and auditory systems for introducing flexible interactions between humans and systems, which have been constructed by the authors.","PeriodicalId":384027,"journal":{"name":"2011 4th International Conference on Human System Interactions, HSI 2011","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123151971","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One approach used to improve tomographic results is to prescribe the collection of more data, from different points of few so that data fusion might have a richer data set to work from. This approach can lead to rapid increase in the data needed to be stored and processed. It also does not necessarily lead to have the needed data. This article describes a novel approach to utilizing the data aquired as a basis for adapting the sensors focusing parameters to locate more precisely the features in the material: specifically, two evolutionary methods of autofocusing on a returned signal are coupled with the derivations of the forumulas for spatially locating the feature are given. Test results of the two novel methods of evolutionary based focusing (EBF) illustrate the improved signal strength and correction of the position of feature using the optimized focal timing parameters, called Focused Delay Identification (FoDI).","PeriodicalId":384027,"journal":{"name":"2011 4th International Conference on Human System Interactions, HSI 2011","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122952685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies have been conducted on various fundamental techniques and applications. We experimented on the delay of a feedback force. Haptic media are very sensitive to network delays, jitter, and packet loss. The analytic hierarchy process is one method used to evaluate physical phenomena as perceived by humans, and was used in the present experiment. The results revealed that haptic media could be estimated from the delay time. In this study, we investigated the relationship between the delay time and haptic sensation. The effectiveness of our method was confirmed by conducting experiments on participants.","PeriodicalId":384027,"journal":{"name":"2011 4th International Conference on Human System Interactions, HSI 2011","volume":"447 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116187863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We now present a few studies in which the changes in subjective impressions of when visual information is matched with auditory information were analyzed on the basis of the physical features of the perceived items. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of music on image impressions in terms of the physical features of images or music. In this paper, we first elucidate the changes in subjective impressions when the image is presented by itself and when it is presented with music. Secondly, to clarify the relationship between the impression and physical features, we compare their respective physical features, which include color information, structural information, and frequency characteristics with subjective impressions. As a result, the color information of an image containing green or saturation colors and the power of the music were strongly correlated with adjectives expressing activity. Moreover, the entropy of saturation correlated with words expressing spatial extent.","PeriodicalId":384027,"journal":{"name":"2011 4th International Conference on Human System Interactions, HSI 2011","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122900063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, digital cameras have become extremely popular because they enable image recording with very high fidelity and are affordably priced. However, in subjective image-quality assessment by human, one does not always consider that images with high fidelity are of high quality. In this study, a psychological experiment was performed as the first step to develop a subjective image-quality assessment model that considers kansei of human being by using conjoint method. We particularly focused on the identification of physical factors without depending on a scene. The results of this experiment showed that “luminance” and “contrast” may contribute to an enhancement in the image-quality assessment, regardless of the type of scene used. It was also suggested that human memory, in which the colors preferred by the individual are retained, also plays a major role in a subjective image-quality assessment.","PeriodicalId":384027,"journal":{"name":"2011 4th International Conference on Human System Interactions, HSI 2011","volume":"272 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117348926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system uses a common webcam to acknowledge gestures made with the tongue, which are interpreted as the “dots” and “dashes” of a double-switch Morse Code. One difficulty of employing an encoding technique for text entry is the necessity of memorizing the code in advance. Thus, to enable the rapid utilization of the system, the user is provided with a on-screen chart that provides immediate visual feedback. The 30-character chart has been designed as a dichotomic search table that matches perceptually the position of the tongue gestures. A theoretical speed of 1.44 WPM is calculated using moderate parameters; however, experimental results exceeded the theoretical speed by 50%. Although our interface has been tested with only two users, we demonstrate that the performance increases as the level of expertise of the user augments.","PeriodicalId":384027,"journal":{"name":"2011 4th International Conference on Human System Interactions, HSI 2011","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127737594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have developed a multi-DOF robotic forceps manipulator using a novel omnidirectional bending mechanism, and for the developed robotic forceps manipulator, we proposed a passivity based bilateral control that enables motion scaling in both position tracking and force tracking, and guarantees the stability of the teleoperation system in the presence of constant time delay, so far. In this paper, the passivity based bilateral control is extended so as to guarantee the stability of the teleoperation system not only in the presence of the constant time delay but also in the presence of the time varying delay. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control law, experimental works were carried out for the developed robotic forceps teleoperation system.","PeriodicalId":384027,"journal":{"name":"2011 4th International Conference on Human System Interactions, HSI 2011","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132874502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
