School choice is a relatively new term in which parents are provided an option for their children’s educational setting. Because of this new option, competition between traditional public schools and charter schools may arise. Predicted in some education reform models (Hess, 2004) is that this competition will increase the rigor and strengthen instructional practices within public schools. In contrast, other scholars (e.g., Davis, 2013) have argued that the competition between traditional public schools and charter schools will not be likely to bring about major academic improvements in the public school system.","PeriodicalId":383417,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational System","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132623844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is because preschool period marks the cognitive path and social evolution of a child from a very early age, when they become a member of the Kindergarten Community, a miniature of the future broad society that is, thus solemnizing assessment as one of the qualitative indicators regarding the educational work as well as the course of the citizen-to-be. For the contemporary Greek reality, the orientation of assessment on the field of preschool education emphasizes on the process itself, promoting the elaborative aspect of the evaluation rather than the final outcome. However, via the official educational policies along with the existing guidelines offered to the Kindergarten Educators, formative assessment sadly is not given its due importance, although it serves as a guarantee for the implementation of appropriate curricula regarding preschool education and learning (McAfee, Leong & Bodrova, 2010).","PeriodicalId":383417,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational System","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131570782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Determined in this investigation were the increases and decreases in the numbers and percentages of students enrolled in developmental education in mathematics and whether differences were present in these statistics over an 8-year time period. A particular emphasis in this investigation was on the completion of a college-level course in mathematics by students who were enrolled in developmental education in mathematics. Revealed in this multiyear investigation were statistically significant differences in the numbers of students enrolled in developmental education in mathematics and in the percentages of those students who then completed a college-level course in mathematics. However, the percentages of students enrolled in developmental education in mathematics were not statistically significant over time. Although the numbers of students enrolled in developmental education in mathematics decreased over time, about 60% did not complete a college-level course in mathematics. Readers are provided with implications for practice and recommendations for future research.","PeriodicalId":383417,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational System","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124328785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to Fowler, Lightsey, Monger and Aseltine (2010), this School-toPrison pipeline refers to a disturbing pattern of school disciplinary problems escalating from suspension to removal from school, juvenile justice system involvement, and school dropout. Previous researchers (e.g., Christle et al., 2004; Henkel, 2015; Hilberth & Slate, 2014a; Skiba et al., 2009) have indicated a link between exclusionary discipline assignments, low student achievement and higher student dropout rates.","PeriodicalId":383417,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational System","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124790788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
