The objective of current research is to explore the speech of the education minister and how he uses his language indirectly talking on solid innovations. The sample online recordings of the education minister are transcribed in close detail to allow for a fine analysis of the design, exchange, and coordination of actions within the delivery of new implementations. This paper will introduce intellectual foundations of discourse analysis outline its approach to data collection and transcription; illustrate its analytical procedures; and discusses the application of ethnography of communication in the education minister’s speech while addressing the teachers. The results suggest that the use of indirectness and implicit speech making strategies foster the politeness act in public speech. We can conclude that the politicians’ speech delivered to the public may be researched more and it might be a part of discourse competence of English language learners. The future direction of ethnography of communication may focus on transnational context comparing the different countries and education minister’s speech which may help English teachers to teach culture and spoken discourse better. \u0000Keywords: Ethnography of communication; educational leadership; discourse; speech community; speech event

The survey study was conducted at the ITEC center of University of Science (Ho Chi Minh City) with the participation of 82 students and 20 teachers. The instruments included the questionnaires and the semi-structured interviews. The quantitative data obtained from the questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS version 20.0, while the qualitative data obtained from the interviews were thematically analyzed. The findings show that both the students and the teachers concurrently showed their positive affection and cognition towards the clear objectives, reasonable assessment modes, effective instructional materials, and helpful extensive practice. In addition, content of the ITEC English curriculum was emotionally and cognitively approved by both the teachers and the students; however, some students thought that the content lacked an emphasis of culture elements and updated realistic situations. Furthermore, while the teachers seemed to prefer the time allotment of the courses of the curriculum, many students did not express their favor or approval. Besides, a big proportion of the target students liked its instructional methods and believed in the usefulness of the instructional methods and delivery techniques, especially in developing and sharpening their language skills and test-taking skills as well. Nonetheless, some of the teachers did not feel these instructional methods impressive and were not compatible with their preferential styles.

This problem is recurrent among foreign language learners, a case in point in Algeria, Modern Standard Arabic interfere with English in students oral and written productions. Hence, stylistic errors are produced by the learners because the knowledge about the foreign language is established incorrectly. Accordingly, this paper will explore the types of linguistic interference errors done by pupils on their English writings at Bouazza Miloud high school in Tlemcen-Algeria. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of pupils’ productions revealed the existence of syntactic, lexical and semantic errors. Our aim, at this current paper, is to confirm whether use of the Twitter social network via a mobile device helps Spanish learners of English as a foreign language (henceforth, EFL) improve their quality of EFL written expression and, especially, their summarizing skill in the English language. We conducted a classroom experiment with students in Year 4 of compulsory secondary education at the time of the experiment. The participating students were level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (henceforth, CEFR). Two research questions were established. Based on these, the following preliminary hypothesis was formulated: Use of the mobile version of Twitter has a positive impact on improving written expression and, to be more concrete, the summarizing skill in EFL. The research model, which we selected, was action research, in accordance with which quantitative data were analysed to justify the outcomes of this empirical research. The data were satisfactory since learners improved significantly at the end of this current classroom experiment. This research on the use of Twitter in its mobile version could imply a starting point to conduct further empirical studies in this respect on English language teaching and learning in non-university education, such as primary education, compulsory secondary education and Baccaulerette.

The learners reported that the presence of adverbials sometimes led them to their choice of the present perfect or past perfect. The oversuppliances of the past progressive were primarily atelic activities. These results mirror other studies in the confusion between past tense forms, influence of adverbials and lexical aspect. They may also possibly indicate L1 influence from Mandarin.

Yet, identity is not static and forming a cultural identity requires adapting beliefs and practices of one or more cultural communities. Hence, this paper is an attempt to bring the issue of identity construction in question as a result of direct contact with people from different cultures and what it may engender as a change in social, cultural behaviour, and positions. The present study investigates the impact of study abroad experience on sojourners’ cultural identity. It tries to highlight the nature of the crossing borders experience, and how it strongly contributes to the creation of a new cultural identity. This research work relies on a case study that consists of 25 Algerian students who are actually enrolled in a long-term programme at different universities in the United Kingdom. The data were gathered through the use of both questionnaire and semi-structured interview administered to these sojourners. Then, data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings first display the competencies developed by students while abroad. Second, the study explores how cultural identity is being reconstructed and negotiated during the intercultural communication. Third, the extracts of the study reveal that the sojourners are aware of the cross-cultural adaptation process and they try to cope with the challenges they face as well as avoiding communication breakdowns and misunderstandings. As a result, we contribute to the literature concerning constructing and negotiating identities in different socio-cultural contexts. \u0000Key-words: Cultural Identity; Cross-cultural Adaptation; Identity Negotiation; Intercultural Communication; Study Abroad. \u0000

To fulfil this objective, the researcher provided 30 medical and 30 engineering research articles to identify the hedging and boosting devices used in them. The research articles were analysed according to lexical devices classification, focusing on hedges and boosters. The AntConc concordance software was used to identify the instances of hedges and boosters in both disciplines. Frequency, percentage and the Chi-square test were run to analyse the data. The results indicated that the difference between the frequency of hedges and boosters in medical sciences and engineering research articles was significant and meaningful. Moreover, the outcomes indicated that the most frequent hedges were epistemic modality verbs, quantifiers and nouns and the most frequent boosters were nouns, lexical verbs, modal verbs and adjectives. These discoveries of this paper may have some implications for the teaching of academic writing, especially to EFL learners. \u0000Keywords: Boosters, engineering research articles, hedges, medical research articles
