Our paper’s aim is to analyze the way in which (inter)cultural awareness is\u0000constructed in the main Japanese language textbooks used worldwide after the 1980s. We\u0000focus on the self-introduction sections in A1-level textbooks, identifying the main\u0000“foreigner” characters and examining their linguistic and cultural behavior in their\u0000interactions with the Japanese ones, as this is the first encounter of non-Japanese learners\u0000with the (inter)cultural construct in Japanese language study materials. Of particular importance is the notion of “literary\u0000cinematographicness”, defined as the use of cinematic techniques (or filmic modes) in\u0000narrative fiction, thus producing the effect of multimodality. This discussion is inspired by Octavia E. Butler’s\u0000speculative fiction and is part of a larger doctoral project exploring the intersections of race,\u0000gender, sexuality and religion in her earlier, more classic, science fiction and her later, previsionary, speculative fiction. The objective is to lay out a theoretical foundation to the\u0000contention that Butler’s fiction is equivalent to self-mapping - and thus autoethnographic -,\u0000and that it engages the minority woman and queer reader in a similarly autoethnographic\u0000journey. The present article is a theoretic preamble to this contention. The change in the scientific landscape and the culture of\u0000quantification due to the competition for funds, grants and positions, the establishment of\u0000reputation through long lists of publications and third-party funding, decisive criteria for\u0000professions and recruitment, reveal grievances in the scientific community. The aim of this paper is to examine the communication strategies used in\u0000approaching the COVID-19 vaccination campaign to the population, focusing on the\u0000Romanian cultural mindset, specificities, values and beliefs that have been addressed. It provides critical comments on different and sometimes\u0000controversial views of learners and teachers on how new media have been promoted in\u0000language teaching. The new media comprise combination of texts, sounds, computer-based\u0000exercises - like cloze passages exercises, jumble sentences rearrangements, or text\u0000reconstruction dialogues - and grammar tables and structures with supporting software\u0000tools enclosed in spelling programs, audio dictionaries and search engines, allowing the\u0000user to browse the entire range for specific topics of activities. All these are significantly\u0000beneficial to the language learning process. Notwithstanding all these benefits, it is\u0000doubtful whether these new computer-based methods live up to the claim to surpass the\u0000effectiveness of existing, traditional methods in language teaching and learning. Most of\u0000the traditional exercises, as well as those based on PC applications, largely rely on a\u0000substantial amount of authentic language contained in most of the reference works. Decree 770/1966 meant the brutal\u0000intervention of the paternalistic state in the private lives of its citizens and the redefinition of\u0000gender roles to the effect of translating reproductive roles into productive ones. We will examine the practice of reformulating the discourse\u0000of others implemented by students in the development of the literature review in their master's\u0000dissertation. In particular, we will look at the reconciliation between citation and the\u0000different types of reformulation identified in the corpus. Publishing scientific/ academic work in high-ranking\u0000journals is today the norm in most universities worldwide which has imposed on editorial\u0000teams methods of selection relying almost exclusively on the authority of reviewers.\u0000This article will present a brief overview of recent concerns regarding the peer review\u0000practice in different publishing fields and the issue of less than collegial behaviours that\u0000have also emerged. The paper examines the importance of unbiased feedback of specialists\u0000which ensures the quality of published materials and highlights authors’ apprehension\u0000about bullying in peer review processes.
