In this paper, a novel control method is proposed for Hysteresis based UPFC, which uses four degrees of freedom to control bus voltage, DC link voltage, and active and reactive transmission line power flows independently. Results obtained by simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC show that proposed control method is more effective than the reported methods in achieving better power quality indices and more stability i.e. less overshoots and settling times.","PeriodicalId":379868,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference (PEOCO)","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122575570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The input data of ANN is comprises of multiple lags of hourly peak load. Hence, imperative information regarding to the movement patterns of a time series can be obtained based on the multiple time lags of chronological hourly peak load. This may assist towards the improvement of ANN in forecasting the hourly peak loads. The Levenberg-Marquardt optimization technique is used as a back propagation algorithm for the ANN. The forecasted hourly peak loads are obtained based on the stationary output of ANN. The Malaysian hourly peak loads are used as a case study in the estimation of STLF using ANN. The results have shown that the proposed technique is robust in forecasting the future hourly peak loads with less error.","PeriodicalId":379868,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference (PEOCO)","volume":"16 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126130207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current methods normally assume either islanded operation, or utility-grid connected µgrid but lacking in market participation elements. The paper addresses this gap whereby the formulated objective function allows for autonomous decision-making to determine the hour by hour optimal dispatch of generators subject to system constraints including market parameters. The distributed generations in the modelled µgrid consist of wind turbines, microturbines and photovoltaic arrays while the system inputs are based on tropical conditions. A case study on the difference between grid-connected and islanded operation is presented. The results demonstrate the efficiency of using genetic algorithm to solve the optimization problem.","PeriodicalId":379868,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference (PEOCO)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126363302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the presence of these sources leads distribution networks to lose their radial nature. Some problems in coordination of protection devices will occur, due to changes in short circuit levels in different points. In this paper, the effect of size and location of DGs on overcurrent relay coordination has been investigated. The use of fault current limiter (FCL) is proposed to limit fault current levels and effect of DGs on coordination of overcurrent relay during the fault. The procedure of selecting of FCL impedance type and its size is presented to restore the effective coordination of overcurrent relays. The efficiency of the proposed technique is demonstrated by comparing the results of a typical network with those obtained using the previous techniques.","PeriodicalId":379868,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference (PEOCO)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130946694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the problems which can be addressed in this issue is problems related to power system optimization. This paper presents computational intelligence technique for solving power scheduling optimization problem. Evolutionary Programming technique has been applied to minimise total transmission loss; considering the scheduling of active power and controlling the reactive power as the main control variables. In this study, the control process of reactive power and scheduling of active power at all generators will help control the power flow in the system. This has given impact to the current flow which influences the total transmission loss. Validation through a reliability test system revealed its superiority. Verification performed through comparative studies with other optimization technique revealed that the proposed computational intelligence technique produced promising results.","PeriodicalId":379868,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference (PEOCO)","volume":"182 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121410149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Temperature sensitivity of electrical load means the amount of change in load consumption for one degree change in temperature. A linear regression based analysis of temperature sensitivity of Bangladesh power system (BPS) load is performed at first and using the results, temperature sensitivity of BPS load is forecasted by applying three–point method. The linear regression analysis recognizes that the load pattern of BPS is heavily dependent on temperature. This study also shows that, temperature sensitivity of Bangladesh network load varies with the seasonal variation. A significant portion of the electrical energy is consumed in Bangladesh, especially in summer season, to mitigate the impact of weather on the daily life of human society. This temperature sensitivity forecasting will help to incorporate the effect of weather conditions to short-term and mid-term load forecasting. Numerical results of temperature sensitivity of BPS load from the year 2001 to 2009 are presented and finally the forecasted value of the 2010 is also shown.","PeriodicalId":379868,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference (PEOCO)","volume":"187 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128714769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
