In a context where low power and long-range networks (LPWAN) are increasingly common to the rise of Internet of Things (IoT) architecture, the interest in providing solutions to monitor scenarios and fire prevention based on these technologies is huge. This paper presents a low cost Long Range (LoRa) based network able to evaluate level of fire risk and the presence of a forest fire. The system is composed by a LoRa node and a set of sensors to measure the temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and CO2. The evaluation algorithm is based on the 3030-30 rule. Through website the users can see the parameters measured by nodes in real time. The system has been tested in a real environment and the results show that it is possible to cover a circular area of 1.1km or radius.","PeriodicalId":379304,"journal":{"name":"2019 Sixth International Conference on Internet of Things: Systems, Management and Security (IOTSMS)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127960085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has paved the way for many and various types of applications to make use of the notions of this promising technology. These applications are concerned with persisting historically attested and tamper resistant datasets. Having these datasets persisted calls for techniques that fulfill the emerging requirements for managing these stored datasets efficiently. This includes providing efficient and direct ways to access, query, interlink, and retrieve those datasets. The absence of such solutions imposes many hindrances to make use of the full extent of the blockchain technology. In this paper, we introduce our approach which aims at adding a data-graph service-layer to the component stack of a blockchain system. This added service-layer employs data graphs such as RDF-encoded data, reasoning, and the underlying inference rules allowing to implement applications with advanced requirements for sophisticated data models that need to be built on top of blockchain infrastructure.","PeriodicalId":379304,"journal":{"name":"2019 Sixth International Conference on Internet of Things: Systems, Management and Security (IOTSMS)","volume":"9 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113978891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to perform the attestation, an IoT device typically has to stop the regular operation and perform expensive computations that will consume the battery life of the device. In this paper, we use cloud/fog computing to attest an IoT device in an efficient way. We propose Remote Attestation as a Service (RAaS) which allows even a low-end IoT device to securely offload the attestation process to the cloud. We argue that RAaS allows the clone of the device, securely created in the cloud, to perform the most expensive attestation computations. Our proposed approach could reduce the number of attestation operations running on the real IoT device, saving energy consumption, and reducing the downtime of the usual operation of an IoT device during the execution of remote attestation.","PeriodicalId":379304,"journal":{"name":"2019 Sixth International Conference on Internet of Things: Systems, Management and Security (IOTSMS)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129043760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Smart contract technologies on blockchain is expected to improve the security of blockchain system, but that is not a viable solution when an application service is required to simultaneously operate closely-related blockchain ledgers as service business logic. Therefore, this paper proposes a method to extend the functionality of traditional blockchain smart contract by introducing a prototype system, named “ConnectionChain”.","PeriodicalId":379304,"journal":{"name":"2019 Sixth International Conference on Internet of Things: Systems, Management and Security (IOTSMS)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115654352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many scientists investigate methods to save energy at different application levels (cloud: i.e., architectures, grid: i.e., middlewares and frameworks and hardware management: i.e., operating systems) and many of them agree on the strategy of executing programs, processes or virtual machines only using the time and resources that are strictly necessary. For this, it is necessary to plan strategies for deployment and relocation of processes; but always taking into account hardware repercussions and the knowledge of the architecture and applications behavior. On the other hand, it has already been demonstrated that the use of microservices brings numerous advantages in availability and efficiency; but we do not find many jobs that exploit this technique on the energy level. In this article, we present the architecture of a middleware for distributed microservices-based applications, which allows any negotiation-based scheduling algorithm to duplicate or move microservices from one device to another in a non-centralized way for energy savings, taking into account the consumption characteristics of the microservices and the capabilities that the hardware components offer.","PeriodicalId":379304,"journal":{"name":"2019 Sixth International Conference on Internet of Things: Systems, Management and Security (IOTSMS)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124828067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Particularly the fashion industry has integrated RFID into their day-to-day business for accurate stock tracking and monitoring. While inventory accuracy can be increased well above 90%, perfect inventory accuracy is hard to achieve, which is often related to the inherent problems of RFID technology. Several factors can favor or adversely affect RFID reader performance, such as the materials items are made of, their placement in the store, or the location of where the RFID tag has been attached. Therefore, identifying such products, that are frequently missed during stocktakes, is crucial to reach fully accurate inventories, as they require special attention to be properly processed. In this paper, we set out to tackle this real-world problem of determining products with low detectability, based on historical stocktake data of more than 400 brick-and-mortar stores. Further, we conduct a controlled user study to evaluate and improve the detectability of frequently missed products for a total of 16 stores. Our results indicate that frequently missed products can be identified and used as a foundation to further improve stock accuracy in retail stores.","PeriodicalId":379304,"journal":{"name":"2019 Sixth International Conference on Internet of Things: Systems, Management and Security (IOTSMS)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125170095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Access to 50,000 terminals can be supported by a single NB-IoT base station. However, when network resources cannot meet the demands of a large number of devices at the same time, network congestion may be induced, reducing data transmission efficiency and throughput and increasing delay. The radio link control layer of the NB-IoT uses sliding windows, timers, and status reports to control data transmission and realize automatic repeat-request retransmission. This paper studies and improves the TCP Westwood (TCPW) congestion algorithm in a communication protocol and proposes an adaptive sliding window algorithm, Polling-TCPW, to optimize the status report mechanism in the RLC protocol stack. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm can effectively increase the throughput and reduce the transmission delay of RLC and guarantee system stability.","PeriodicalId":379304,"journal":{"name":"2019 Sixth International Conference on Internet of Things: Systems, Management and Security (IOTSMS)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123460842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With its innovative approach to decentralized computation and assets management, the blockchain has not only potential to solve a number of system scalability, reliability, security, and privacy issues, but also to revolutionize software systems development in a way similar to what the Internet did. For example, the integration of the blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) provides a promising new research and development direction that has generated significant research funding and venture capital investments. However, the lack of explanation when it comes to the decisions made by today's AI algorithms is a major drawback with respect to trust in such systems, e.g., deep neural networks do not offer control or reasoning over their internal processes. In this keynote talk, we present the trust issues common to blockchain – IoT – AI systems and their integration. We present some directions for achieving more trustworthy and explainable blockchain – AI – IoT system integration by leveraging features of blockchain, smart contracts, trusted oracles, and decentralized storage. We discuss a framework for complex AI systems in which the decision outcomes are reached based on decentralized consensuses of multiple AI predictors. Finally, we discuss few key application areas with practical use cases.","PeriodicalId":379304,"journal":{"name":"2019 Sixth International Conference on Internet of Things: Systems, Management and Security (IOTSMS)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122311644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Anderl","doi":"10.1109/iotsms48152.2019.8939227","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/iotsms48152.2019.8939227","url":null,"abstract":"With the increasing digitization and interconnection of industry, there are many opportunities for new business models. These promise great economic benefits, but at the same time pose significant threats. The strong interconnection with suppliers, vendors and customers results in an increasingly open production network. Thereby each user group has individual access requirements to the different machines within the company network and corresponding system resources. Therefore, an architecture must be developed capable of controlling access within the network as well as within the machine computer to reduce it to the required minimum. Consequently, we present in this paper an access control architecture that allows attribute-based policies to be enforced both at the network level and at the system level. The required policies are managed centrally in the network. They are then interpreted in the network first, using software-defined networking combined with a suitable policy framework. The request forwarded to the machine is then restricted in the system using an access control architecture on kernel-level and an associated policy module. Afterwards, the presented architecture is prototypically implemented and its performance is evaluated. We come to the conclusion that the presented architecture can be used effectively to reduce the access permissions to the required minimum based on attributes regarding the subject, the environment, the network and system object and the respective action.","PeriodicalId":379304,"journal":{"name":"2019 Sixth International Conference on Internet of Things: Systems, Management and Security (IOTSMS)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116511199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
