This study aimed to quantify the impact of limited availability of private duty nursing. Families of CMC reported that inadequate access to in-home nursing creates significant downstream effects including delays in hospital discharge, major career changes among parents, especially on mothers, and significant annual income loss. Strategies that connect families of medically complex children with skilled nurses in their communities are urgently needed to improve the health of CMC and lessen these burdens on families.</p>","PeriodicalId":37842,"journal":{"name":"Home healthcare now","volume":"43 4","pages":"213-220"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144576580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current approaches to dementia care are often fragmented, marked by poor coordination and limited communication among healthcare providers. This lack of integration contributes to delayed diagnoses, inadequate treatment, and heightened caregiver stress. This article emphasizes the critical role of inter-professional collaboration (IPC) in addressing these challenges and improving outcomes for people living with dementia (PLWD). Effective IPC involves coordinated efforts among physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, home health aides, therapists, and social workers to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care that meets the complex cognitive, physical, and psychosocial needs of PLWD. By implementing an organized, multidisciplinary approach, healthcare systems can not only improve quality of care but also reduce caregiver burden and improve the quality of life for individuals affected by dementia.</p>","PeriodicalId":37842,"journal":{"name":"Home healthcare now","volume":"43 4","pages":"197-205"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144576570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study conducted a blinded review of WPV policies from home care agencies in Ohio, Oregon, and Texas, evaluating them based on five key criteria: WPV reporting, WPV training, WPV policy, workplace conduct, and policy review. Seven agencies participated, but only one met more than 50% of the criteria. Major deficiencies included a lack of WPV prevention methods, formal training, and protective strategies for home visits. While the study examined a small sample, the findings highlight that most WPV policies were incomplete, lacking essential procedures and training to safeguard home care providers. If these findings reflect broader industry trends, home care agencies must prioritize employee safety by implementing more comprehensive WPV policies.</p>","PeriodicalId":37842,"journal":{"name":"Home healthcare now","volume":"43 3","pages":"144-149"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144028671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigated the occurrence of WPV among home healthcare workers (HHCWs). HHCWs completed a survey about the frequency of WPV occurrence in organizations with written policies and the reporting procedures in the event of a WPV incident. About a third of respondents experienced both verbal and emotional abuse daily, whereas 56.6% of participants reported physical violence at some point while working with their current agency. In most cases, patients were the primary perpetrators. Despite existing reporting policies, none of the participants reported incidents to management, highlighting systemic barriers to reporting. These results underscore the urgent need for stronger workplace protections, improved management response, and targeted interventions to foster a safer work environment. Future research should focus on addressing reporting barriers and enhancing WPV prevention strategies.</p>","PeriodicalId":37842,"journal":{"name":"Home healthcare now","volume":"43 3","pages":"150-156"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144031442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
