Specifically, the study was guided by the following objectives: to assess the effect of outsourcing cleaning services on organisational performance, to investigate the effect of outsourced garbage collection services on organisational performance and to assess the effect of outsourced stationery outsourcing services on organisational performance at IRUWASA. The study adopted a cross-sectional research design, where data were collected at one point in time. The targeted population of this study were all employees (48) from IRUWASA. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis were used to analyse data. Major findings from the study showed that cleaning, garbage collection and stationery outsourced services positively impacted IRUWASA performance. The results also revealed that outsourcing resulted in cost savings in all three aspects of cleaning, garbage collection and stationery outsourcing of about Tsh. 12,309,000 (56.89%); 19,520,000 (55%) and 12,309,000 (36.73%) respectively. Results from correlation and multiple linear regression showed the adjusted R2 equals 0.640, implying that the model explains about 64% variations in organisation performance, while all the independent variables were found statistically and positively significant, influencing the dependent variable. The study concludes that outsourcing services improve organisational performance. The study recommends that the government and other institutions discern the potential benefits of outsourcing services in terms of cost-effectiveness, resource allocation, and the optimisation of core functions","PeriodicalId":378318,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Business and Economics","volume":"10 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136135539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study assessed the factors that influence the effective implementation of e-procurement in the context of the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) Iringa regional office. The research focused on three pivotal factors: e-infrastructure, staff competence, and management support. A quantitative research approach with a descriptive research design was employed, targeting a population of 95 individuals, whereby a sample of 80 respondents was drawn in the study. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics including mean and standard deviation. The findings of this study reveal crucial insights into the determinants of effective e-procurement implementation within the public sector. Firstly, e-infrastructure is found to have a significantly positive influence on effective e-procurement implementation. Secondly, staff competence is identified as a critical driver, with employees displaying a commitment to e-procurement and possessing the necessary education, albeit with room for improvement in IT skills. Lastly, management support is a significant enabler of e-procurement success, with investments in technology infrastructure, user manuals, and budgetary allocations for training, maintenance services, and technical support being essential components. This study concludes that e-infrastructure, staff competence, and management support are pivotal factors in the successful implementation of e-procurement within the public sector. The study recommends continuous training, commitment nurturing, policy review, experience sharing, technological enhancements, financial support, and the recruitment of qualified ICT personnel in driving effective e-procurement implementation","PeriodicalId":378318,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Business and Economics","volume":"57 59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136135542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While procuring entities may have internal objectives, such as cost-effectiveness and timely service delivery, they must also serve the interests of the general public, who bear the tax burden. The study aimed to assess factors influencing the effectiveness of the tendering process in Iringa Municipal Council through financial resources, physical assets, and employee competence. A quantitative approach and cross-sectional design were used, whereby Transaction Cost Economics and Resource-Based View theories were adopted. Sixty-five employees were involved in this study. Descriptive statistics was used in data analysis. The findings showed that effective financial resource management plays a crucial role in influencing the effectiveness of the tendering process. The Iringa Municipal Council demonstrated effective tendering with its abundant financial assets, sufficient working capital, and strong financial position. Physical assets, such as well-maintained facilities and high-quality assets, positively influenced the effectiveness of the tendering process in The Iringa Municipal Council. Employee competence, commitment, education level, and experience significantly affected the effectiveness of the tendering process at The Iringa Municipal Council. The study concluded that financial resources are essential for an effective tendering process. Their efficient allocation and management are critical to success. Adequate physical assets and their maintenance are crucial for a streamlined tendering process. The study recommended that the Government should establish clear policies to ensure the effectiveness of the tendering process in public sectors. The Iringa Municipal Council should provide robust support and training to employees involved in the tendering process to enhance its efficiency. Further studies should explore additional factors contributing to ineffective tendering processes, such as the provision of substandard goods and services, missed deadlines, and punctuality issues in public sectors, to gain deeper insights into their causes and potential solutions","PeriodicalId":378318,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Business and Economics","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134908348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Paradoxically, despite Kenya’s notable increase in formal financial access from 75.5% in 2019 to 83.7% in 2022, household income growth has yet to follow suit. Shockingly, over 50% of Kenyan citizens, in stark contrast to the 25-40% seen in other developing nations, still endure extreme poverty, falling below the international poverty line of $1.90 per day, according to a sobering 2022 World Bank report. This grim reality indicates that financial access may not be the issue. To shed light on this adverse trend, this research focused on the role of investment literacy on household income generation among Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) members in Narok County, Kenya. The study was rooted in behavioural finance theory and adopted a descriptive research design. Further, the study targeted 3,050 registered SACCO members, from which a sample size of 217 was obtained using the Yamane 1957 formula. Stratified and purposive sampling techniques were also used to select the study sample. The study used structured questionnaires, which were self-administered to collect the data. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse the study data. A simple linear regression model was adopted for the study. The findings revealed that investment literacy had a significant positive role (β = 0.225, p < 0.05) in household income generation, underscoring its importance in boosting household income among SACCO members. As a result, the study recommends implementing comprehensive investment literacy programs by SACCOs and relevant stakeholders to maximise their impact on income generation","PeriodicalId":378318,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Business and Economics","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136112916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It creates a unique identity that customers can easily recognise and differentiate from competitors. A strong brand identity enables customers to connect with a product on a personal level and can influence customers` purchase decisions because customers are more likely to choose a product with a brand they are familiar with. The main purpose of this study was to explore the effects of brand identity on customer buying decisions. Specific objectives of the study were to find out the effects of brand image on customer buying decisions, to assess the relationship between brand packaging design and customer buying decisions and to determine the effect of brand quality on customer buying decisions. The target population of this research were people from the general public in Kenya who are customers of Del Monte Company products in Kenya. Questionnaires were distributed to 100 customers of Del Monte Company for the collection of data using the purposive sampling method. The study revealed that the three dimensions of brand identity, that is, brand image, brand packaging design, and brand quality, have positive and significant correlations with customer buying decisions as follows: r = .548, P < .05, (r = .642, P < .05) and (r = .437, P < .05) respectively. Regression outputs also showed that customer buying decisions correlates highly with brand identity measures with R=.644 and R2 =.441. The study concludes that product brand identity is vital to attracting and retaining customers.","PeriodicalId":378318,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Business and Economics","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136114440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We employed a descriptive study design including quantitative and qualitative data collection methods using questionnaires with semi-structured open-ended and close-ended questions about mortgage financing to collect data from 400 owner-builders Centenary Bank and House Finance Bank clients. Questionnaire information on basic requirements, awareness, attitudes and challenges was analysed using Likert Scale Mean Scores and correlation statistics using STATA 17. The paper found that owner-builders face high interest rates, cumbersome mortgage processes, poor mortgage product sensitisation, time-consuming phased disbursements, corrupt bank officials, and high initial contributions as significant challenges. The paper suggests policy recommendations to improve access to mortgage financing in GKMA, Uganda. This paper recommends that financial institutions provide more information, support, and flexibility to owner-builders who want to access and manage mortgage financing. Most countries have adopted green strategies so as to reduce the effects of climate change on business sustainability. Climate change affects agricultural-processing firms directly, leading to poor performance. Ecological design is one of the concepts introduced by businesses as a measure of solving the problem of sustainable performance. This study aimed to determine the relationship between green ecological design and the sustainable performance of multinational tea firms in Kenya. The study was anchored on ecological, sustainable, and institutional theories. Correlational and cross-sectional research designs were adopted. A sample of 225 managers was selected using a stratified sampling technique from a target population of 512 from the three multinational tea firms of James Finlay, George Williamson and Ekaterra with primary data being collected using a questionnaire. The content, face, criterion, and construct validity of the instrument were achieved through interrogation of the instrument by supervisors and experts. Reliability was examined using the Cronbach Alpha coefficient, where a score of 0.801 was realised. Linear regression and correlation analysis were used to establish the coefficient of determination and correlation coefficient. The results of the study established that there was a significant but weak (R2 = 0.034, F = 7.411; p<0.05) relationship between eco-design and sustainable performance, implying that whenever multinational tea firms invested in eco-design as a green supply chain practice, there was adequate improvement on their sustainable performance. The study recommends that multinational tea firms in Kenya should put resources into the development of eco-design methods. The findings of this study are expected to baseline information that may assist in developing sustainable performance strategies in the tea sector","PeriodicalId":378318,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Business and Economics","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135197988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, businesses can still succeed during all phases of conflict. After reviewing books, journal articles, field manuals, and online sources on conducting business in conflict-ridden markets, this study emphasises the importance of careful planning and design to ensure a business project’s resilience and sustainability. The study also highlights that risk inversely affects supply and directly influences the demand and price of commodities. However, despite the many reforms, the interest rates are far higher than in other countries in Africa, which are more developed. In an attempt to bolster investment, these states have increased public debt rapidly, exceeding the debt ratio of 50 per cent of Gross Domestic Product as provided in their treaty. The main objective of this study was to examine the effects of public debt on interest rates in selected East African Community member states. The study was anchored on the loanable fund model and used a descriptive panel research design. The dataset was drawn from World Development Indicators and Penn World Tables for the period 1980 to 2020. The dataset was drawn from secondary sources: World Bank's World Development Indicators, Penn World Tables, Economic Surveys and Statistical Abstracts for the period 1980 to 2020. The Panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag method was used to analyse the study. The study found that public debt had a positive effect on the long-term interest rate in the five countries combined. Therefore, these governments need to take effective measures to pursue fiscal discipline. Additionally, EAC states can use concessional loans, which have more favourable terms like lower interest rates, deferred repayments, and income-contingent repayments","PeriodicalId":378318,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Business and Economics","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135153932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
