In order to reduce it, square pattern and diamond pattern are recommended in the H.265 reference software. In this paper, the new asymmetric diamond search patterns are proposed to reduce even further the calculation load of the ME. The new patterns reduce the computation load of ME an impressive amount of nearly 69.5% and 72%, respectively, comparing to the recommended search pattern of square pattern. Similar, the encoding time reduces 65% and 69%. The bit rate and PSNR are virtually unchanged.","PeriodicalId":377853,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Communications and Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121582545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One among their broad range of applications is band-stop spatial filter, which is constructed by periodic arrays of usually metallic elements on a dielectric substrate. This paper will present the effectiveness of an Evolutionary Algorithm, namely Meta-PSO, in optimizing multi-dimensional electromagnetic problem. All these concepts are integrated into a case study of dual rectangular ring loop-type frequency selective surface, printed on a FR4 substrate.","PeriodicalId":377853,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Communications and Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115789680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The originalities of this system are two-fold. Firstly, based on the observation that using all joints to represent human posture is not pertinent and robust because in several human postures the Kinect is not able to track correctly all joints, we define and compute three features (distance, angle, velocity) on only several important joints. Secondly, in order to distinguish fall with other activities such as lying, we propose to use Support Vector Machine technique. In order to analyze the robustness of the proposed features and joints for fall detection, we have performed intensive experiments on 108 videos of 9 activities (4 falls, 2 falls like and 3 daily activities). The experimental results show that the proposed system is capable of detecting falls accurately and robustly.","PeriodicalId":377853,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Communications and Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127368407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Starting from a geometrical model, we derive a reference model assuming that the scatterers are randomly distributed on the surface and the bottom of the water. The probability density functions (PDFs) of the angle-of-departure (AOD) and the angle-of-arrival (AOA) of the reference model are analyzed. Furthermore, the two-dimensional (2D) time-frequency correlation function (T-FCF) of the reference model is studied. From the reference model, we then derive the corresponding simulation model by applying the generalized concept of deterministic channel modelling. For the parametrization of the UWA channel simulator, we propose a new method which is further on called the method of equally spaced scatterers (MESS). The performance of the MESS is compared with that of the Lp-norm method (LPNM). It is shown that our design concept results in an excellent match between the T-FCF of the reference model and that of the simulation model. It is also shown that both the MESS and the LPNM have a similar performance, whereby the MESS provides a closed-form solution, while the LPNM does not.","PeriodicalId":377853,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Communications and Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"42 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133107257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many attempts have been made over the time including traditionally approaches (i.e. threshold-based, edge-based, and region growing) to modern methods of machine learning and neural networks. However, the final solution hasn't be found as yet. Recently, the Local Excitatory Global Inhibitory Oscillator Network (LEGION) has been proposed aimed to solve the problem. The LEGION has been developed for over a decade and has various ways of advancement. The all-digital model, a hybrid of LEGION and region growing, has been done in order to overcome the analog operation of the origin. However, there is an issue still exist in the origin and all of its advancements. It is the fragmentation which results from the incorrect chosen parameters. In this paper, we proposed an adaptive image segmentation method which has dynamic parameters in order to get the best performance. Our approach is based on the digital hybrid of LEGION and region growing, and the parameters are not chosen manually but be computed from the contents of image.","PeriodicalId":377853,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Communications and Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115729740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to have real-time vehicle tracking for traffic surveillance applications, high speed architectures for corner detection are needed. This paper presents a high throughput FPGA architecture for detecting special features (corners in more detail) on traffic images which are captured by cameras. The module is implemented based on the FAST (Features from Accelerated Segment Test) algorithm with some modifications to be suitable for traffic images. The proposed architecture is able to reduce a great number of unnecessary detected corner points and maintain a high throughput of more than a thousand of 8-bit gray-scale images per second at 640 × 480 resolution. The resource usage is 21% lower than that of existing work, which allows the architecture to be implemented on almost all types of FPGA.","PeriodicalId":377853,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Communications and Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123921972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the synchronization is often affected by the timing of the packet detection and automatic gain control completion (AGC). Therefore, it is invalid to assume that symbol timing synchronization starts at the beginning of the preambles in conventional methods. Moreover, most current timing synchronization methods estimate a coarse time-offset of legacy short training symbols (L-STSs) using complex mathematical expressions such as the cross-correlation or auto-correlation. Implementations of these methods, therefore, are complicated and require a lot of hardware. In order to solve the above problems, an effective symbol timing synchronization method is proposed. The new method can detect the start of frame correctly and can save hardware upto 90.5%, 70.6% and 72.4% compare to conventional and previously proposed methods.","PeriodicalId":377853,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Communications and Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115664204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the rapid growth of Internet, Wi-Fi access points (APs) can be found almost everywhere. This widespread infrastructure offers the possibility to locate mobile devices in an economical way. Therefore, Wi-Fi based positioning systems have become an attractive positioning technology in urban areas where GPS signals can be weaker, or where the use of GPS puts too much strain on the device's battery [1]. In order to enhance accuracy and stability of the Wi-Fi based positioning system, we proposed a robust, ubiquitous, and precise indoor positioning solution for smart mobile devices based-on the combination of Wi-Fi positioning system and embedded sensors on the smart devices. The new method will be analyzed and tested in real experiments. Experiment results have shown that our method can provide better accuracy to compare with traditional methods.","PeriodicalId":377853,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Communications and Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129519919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
