The role of legislation for privacy in Europe and other global sectors is examined to describe a privacy protection model that complies with the immediate target of European deployment but that also looks forward to the re-use of the approach across a wider global territory and technical deployment range.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Currently, no comprehensive network modeling approach exists to deal with routing queries for different private and public transport modes taking into account multiple attributes, dynamic travel times and time tables in large-scale transport networks. The goal of this paper is to develop and test a generic multimodal transport network model for ATIS applications. First, we model multimodal transport networks from an abstract point of view and categorize networks into private and public modes. Then we use a generic method to construct a multimodal transport network representation by using transfer links which is inspired by the so-called supernetwork technique. Among all modes, pedestrian networks play an important role in modeling transfer connections. We test our model and algorithm based on a case study in the Eindhoven region. The results indicate that our model and algorithms provide a suitable basis for ATIS applications. One current limitation is that much time is required for data reading and compiling. This can be solved by implementing existing computational strategies to increase efficiency.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Ubiquitous Syst. Improving mobility through increased use of public transportation is strategic to reduce energy consumption, to lower emissions and pollution levels, to improve public safety and to dramatically reduce congestions and road traffic. Reducing private transportation clearly brings significant benefits not only to citizens' quality of life and public health but it also results in a more efficient urban system as a whole, with consequent substantial economic benefits at the wider societal level. At the same time, it is difficult to change human habits and people using public transports should have an efficient and user friendly way to access the best travel options suitable for their needs. Based on this assumption, this paper presents a prototype for an ambient intelligent urban personal mobility assistant, i.e. a software for smartphones and tablets which promotes use of public transport by helping user to identify the best travel option across a multi-modal transport network, through a user-friendly interface that intelligently adjusts to user preferences, and behavior.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. This business model has been developed inside FP7 i-Tour project. i-Tour stands for “intelligent Transport system for Optimized URban trips” and it is a so-called Collaborative Focused Research Project presented to the call on Surface Sustainable Transport topic “SST.2008.3.1.2 Intelligent mobility systems and multi-modal interfaces for transport of passengers”. In order to develop a business model for next generation personal mobility systems, an as-is analysis has been performed, resulting in a scenario characterized by the wide diffusion of wireless connections at urban and regional scale (e.g. UMTS, Wi-Fi or WiMax); by info-mobility services promoting multi-modal transport; by the development of transportation services based on localization technologies. The business model has been, then, proposed taking into account two different business strategies and two different organizations, and developing a financial analysis, including a break-even analysis useful to support a first feasibility study for a distinctive go-to-market strategy.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. A kind of routing protocols that suits the particularity of mobile ad hoc networks is socalled bio- -inspired. Among these, focused on Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), which studies the behaviour of ants in their search for food, are especially relevant. One of these algorithms is AntOR, which relying on swarm intelligence, efficiently solves routing in mobile ad hoc networks. AntOR is a hybrid ACO routing protocol and can be considered as a variant of the AntHocNet protocol, which improves the performance of it in important parameters such as delivered packet ratio, the overhead in the number of packets and the overhead in the number of bytes. The protocol is stable in the carried out simulations, which is suggested in its scalability. In this article we propose an extension of AntOR that using programming multiprocessor architectures based on shared memory protocol, allows to run tasks in parallel using threads, being applicable this parallelization in the route discovery phase, route local repair process and link failure notification.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. In Australia the national emergency warning system (NEWS) was instituted after the tragic Black Saturday Victorian Bushfires of February 2009. In the first phase, NEWS has enabled the provision of public information from the government to the citizen during emergencies anywhere and any time. Moving on from traditional short message service (SMS) notifications and cell broadcasting to more advanced location-based services, this paper provides executive-level recommendations about the viability of locationbased mobile phone services in NEWS Phase II.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. The network administrator has a full ability to control all access types to network, and tasked to allow or discard some of the connections. By using Snort Intrusion Detection System (IDS), the network administrator can monitor network access from the sender to the receiver. Snort is one of the IDS, and it is difficult to configure it with closed source operating systems for the purpose of accessing and terminating connections. Moreover, it needs more requirements to work with windows operating system. Snort is compatible with open source operating systems such as Linux but there is a need to configure it with closed source operating systems such as windows operating system. In this paper, Snort is configured with windows 7 operating system so that it will work as a firewall to monitor and terminate connections. This configuration is successfully achieved by identifying new rules in snort package. Using snort IDS, network administrator is able to monitor, allow, and block any accessing to the web with the ability to get alerts containing information related to the connection such as IP address and port numbers. Moreover, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been developed to allow end user to configure new snort rules with a user friendly interface depending on snort user requirements. The results indicate that the Snort can be configured with Windows 7 by creating new snort rules to monitor network traffic and terminate connection between two entities. In addition, they show how a GUI allows snort user to create new rules based on him/her requirements.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Ubiquitous Syst.
