Mobile augmented reality can be considered as one demanding scenario demonstrating that smart mobile applications are becoming more and more mature. In the AREA (Augmented Reality Engine Application) project, we developed a powerful kernel that enables location-based, mobile augmented reality applications. On top of this kernel, mobile application developers can realize sophisticated individual applications. The AREA kernel, in turn, allows for both robustness and high performance. In addition, it provides a flexible architecture that fosters the development of individual location-based mobile augmented reality applications. As a particular feature, the kernel allows for the handling of points of interests (POI) clusters. Altogether, advanced concepts are required to realize a location-based mobile augmented reality kernel that are presented in this paper. Furthermore, results of an experiment are presented in which the AREA kernel was compared to other location-based mobile augmented reality applications. To demonstrate the applicability of the kernel, we apply it in the context of various mobile applications. As a lesson learned, sophisticated mobile augmented reality applications can be efficiently run on present mobile operating systems and be effectively realized by engineers using the AREA framework. We consider mobile augmented reality as a killer application for mobile computational capabilities as well as the proper support of mobile users in everyday life.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. As these congestions generally result in substantial casualties and economic losses, tremendous investments are being spent on efficient solutions for road traffic management. Abundant works have proposed solutions to help road traffic stakeholders in making decisions about ongoing events at the individual and collective levels. However, not enough success is yet achieved when it comes to collecting, processing, and delivering the right data, from the right location, at the right time to the right user. We argue in this paper that the divide should be effectively closed between a real world where road traffic and its related events are happening and a world where decisions are being taken. To this end, we propose to use the emergent technologies of Cyber Physical Systems along with multi-agent system mechanisms for additional autonomy, flexibility, and control of the different aspects of the highly dynamic and uncertain field of road traffic management. Within this scope, we propose an architecture of a Cyber Physical Spatial Decision Support System (CPSDSS) through which we explain how various road traffic challenges could be monitored and controlled","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. This new technology has been shown to lower the manufacturing costs in a wide array of applications that range in diversity from manufacturing nuclear power plant components to multi materials, and fabricating tissues and organs for human bodies to carbon fiber reinforced parts at unprecedented rates for private jets [1]. The investigation of several heated platforms under operating conditions forms the basis for this paper from which the thermal coefficients of each product are experimentally derived. From this testing and derivation, intriguing observations regarding each platforms performance is presented.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Ubiquitous Syst. The multi-hop communication is the most suitable solution to overcome the limitation of transmission range of mobile terminals. The selection of routing protocol among the existing ones is a crucial issue, and based on its performance. Thus, in this work the performance of four well-known routing protocols named DSR, AODV, OLSR and DSDV was evaluated based on ad hoc network size (number of nodes). In this work, we have achieved several simulation scenarios to estimate the performance of the mentioned protocols. Results have been achieved by using OMNet++ simulator and we have considered three metrics which are: end-to-end delay, collision and packet delivery ratio for comparison purpose. This metrics are compared based on the number of nodes which have directly affected the number of hops.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Ubiquitous Syst. In order to support the mobility in MANETs, the routing protocols are needed to handle the data transmission between the wireless nodes from a source to destination. Ad-Hoc On demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) is a popular routing protocols used in MANET. Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANET) is a special type of MANET which is used to support the high mobility between moving cars on the roads. In this paper the AODV and DSR are applied on a VANET over two different scenarios, dense and sparse traffic based on cars density on the road, and then both protocols are evaluated based on different performance metrics","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) IP Virtual Private Network (VPN) addresses this problem and it is able to make a communication faster than others techniques. However, this paper studies the performance comparison of video traffic between two routing protocols namely the Enhanced Interior Gateway Protocol (EIGRP) and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF). The combination of traditional routing and MPLS improve the forwarding mechanism, scalability and overall network performance. We will use GNS3 and OPNET Modeler 14.5 to simulate many different scenarios and metrics such as delay, jitter and mean opinion score (MOS) value are measured. The simulation result will show that OSPF and BGP-MPLS VPN offers best performance for video conferencing application","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Ubiquitous Syst. We thus investigated the use of a standard smartphone for feedback provision while running, which is available to almost everyone. We investigated the use of body-worn sensors for assessing running technique on the example of arm carriage. In a pre-study with 10 runners, we found that arm carriage can be monitored by a single sensor on the upper arm. We developed an Android application to monitor arm carriage in real time. The application was validated in a user study with 23 participants. Results from questionnaires revealed high user acceptance","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Ubiquitous Syst. After considering the best frequency band for communications in biological tissues, both the uplink and downlink near-field coupled energy transfer options are analyzed. The possibility of wireless powering using the same frequency band is also studied. The nominal power consumption of the implantable baseband communications circuitry was estimated for smaller technology nodes using the Synopsys CAD tools. The effect of using the ultra-low power subthreshold operation in different technology nodes was also analyzed using predictive technology models. By introducing an analysis flow and the corresponding implementation code, we were also able to predict the subthreshold power consumption of the circuitry in different technology nodes and importantly at the gate level.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Previous approaches usually depend on individual or combined received signal strength (RSS) measurements to detect emulators. In this paper, we propose a new mechanism based on physical layer network coding to detect the emulators. When two signal sequences interfere at the receiver, the starting point of collision is determined by the distances among the receiver and the senders. Using the signal interference results at multiple receivers and the positions of reference senders, we can determine the position of the ‘claimed’ primary user. We can then compare this localization result with the known position of the primary user to detect the PUE attack. We design a PUE detection mechanism for wireless networks with trustworthy reference senders. We analyze the overhead of the proposed approach and study its detection accuracy through simulation.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Ubiquitous Syst. From the perspective of telecommunication providers to deliver integrated composite service from different providers and different network protocols, this paper is aimed to present the current service composition based on middleware approaches; discuss the requirements of meeting the challenges; and compare the approaches.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J.
