Moreover, the problem of rural depopulation can be addressed by this concept. In the research project “Digital Teams”, we aim to develop a digital open-source platform to support and optimize the digital work environment for distributed teams in rural areas, especially in the knowledge work context. In this article, we focus on the research and design aspects of the project. We provide insights on how we have used the design thinking approach for our research and the development of the UX- and UI-design concepts. We are focusing on an ecosystem concept, which provides all relevant services for knowledge workers in their daily work life, rather than focusing on a specific remote collaboration purpose. We present initial evaluation results , which tend to be positive and give an outlook on future work.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Ubiquitous Syst. The usual pre requisite to model freight flows on between geographical zones, is an understanding of intra zonal production and consumption relations. This is in essence an aggregation of all individual firm to firm interactions taking place in form of production and consumption of goods, as well as transportation firms involved in the goods exchange process. In this paper, a demand driven micro-simulated supply chain model is presented. The presented model is a microsimulation model modeling the main firm types present in a traditional supply chain. It is a demand driven model using quantity of goods requested at the consumer side as a starting point. The different interacting firms use a modified Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) model as the basis of the simulation process. The cost function used includes also transportation and labor costs. The model simulates also shipping and carrying firms and takes into account raw material suppliers able to supply all or some subcomponents needed by production firms. Different initial conditions can be used to mimic real life firm to firm interactions. Firm level and zone level scenarios are simulated and results are shown.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Ubiquitous Syst. To rigorously analyze new control mechanisms for these services, we introduce an open-source agent-based simulation testbed that allows evaluating the performance of demand-responsive transport schemes. In particular, our testbed provides a framework to compare both centralized and decentralized, static and dynamic passenger allocation and vehicle routing mechanisms under various conditions; including varying vehicle fleets, road network topologies and passenger demands. The testbed supports all stages of the experimental process; from the implementation of control mechanisms and the definition of experiment scenarios, through to simulation execution, analysis, and interpretation of results. Ultimately, our testbed accelerates the development of control mechanisms for emerging on-demand mobility services and facilitates their comparison with well-defined benchmarks. We illustrate our approach on an example simulation study of standard taxi and taxi sharing services in the area of Sydney, Australia.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J. Ubiquitous Syst. Such a route enriches people's memories with common experiences, targeting places and interactions among refugees and locals and may affect the collective memory of such people positively or negatively. A crucial point in the modern paradigm of smart cities is the quality of life. To achieve quality of life for its citizens a smart city should establish ways to reduce alienation among the different groups that constitute the city's palimpsest. Understanding the different cultural identities and improvement of social cohesion between different people groups is one of the basic vehicles towards this goal. In this paper, we attempt to give a first answer to such problems proposing and implementing specific services in the context of a crowdsourcing system for collective memory management using interactive maps. We demonstrate a basic usage scenario to show the strength of the implemented services, along with a two-step evaluation showing positive results.","PeriodicalId":376249,"journal":{"name":"J.
