This study not only aimed to describe the renewal of the Bungaya Agreement based on the manuscript of Addatuang Sidenreng, but also explained the background and impacts of the agreement toward the the kingdoms being in South Sulawesi. The method used was a qualitative research method in term of descriptive analysis through history and filology approaches. The study result showed that the renewal of Bungaya Agreement not only facilitated the government of the Dutch East Indies in restoring the position and power of its colonial government in South Sulawesi, but also gave it opportunity to interfere the internal affairs of the kingdoms in South Sulawesi. Therefore, the renewal of Bungaya Agreement was very beneficial for the Dutch government and very detrimental for the kingdoms in South Sulawesi, so it became the cause of conflicts between the two parties in its establishment. ","PeriodicalId":374972,"journal":{"name":"Walasuji : Jurnal Sejarah dan Budaya","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127796792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This operation was led by General Soeharto, then it is called the Mandala Monument due to this operation’s name. There were many stories of the greatness of Mandala Operation and the Indonesian soldiers in seizing West Irian from the Dutch. This research used qualitative research with observation and literature study of data collection methods. From this research result, the researcher concluded that establishing the historical monuments functioned to commemorate the events of Indonesian history. Several monuments were also established as an appreciation, so that the role of Suharto in several movements can be remembered. The establishment of the Mandala Monument was not only to commemorate the death of the soldiers who were victim in the struggle for West Irian, but also a form of political memory towards the increasing prestige of the father of establishment in the state.","PeriodicalId":374972,"journal":{"name":"Walasuji : Jurnal Sejarah dan Budaya","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123457540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This was motivated by the political policy of the Japanese Navy as the ruler of the East Indonesia region which tried to eliminate all kinds of Western influence, one of which was through the detention of Catholic missionaries. This article used a historical method based on a literature study. The study result showed that several places in South Sulawesi, such as Makassar , Malino, Kampili, Pare-Pare, Bojo, and Bolong were chosen as the detention camps for Dutch Catholic missionaries in Eastern Indonesia, because they were the central government of the Japanese Navy in Eastern Indonesia. Besides, the poor conditions of the detention camps and prone to armed attacks caused many missionaries die there while being detained in 1942 and 1943. Some of the missionaries who survived were returned to their mission lands from late 1945 to early 1946. At the end, this crucial period had a major impact on the history of the Catholic Church in Indonesia, that was the absence of Dutch missionaries in the mission lands as well as the common active involvements and a few Japanese missionaries in carrying out missions.","PeriodicalId":374972,"journal":{"name":"Walasuji : Jurnal Sejarah dan Budaya","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127718164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research aims to describe the tradition of ma’bunga’ lalang in the agricultural activities of Luwu society . The l o c us of this research was Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi Province . The d ata were obtained through observa t i on on the pra c ti ces /ritual s in ma’bunga’ lalang tradition and interview the informan ts . The data were then transcribed, triangulated, presented descriptively, and connected to the relevant references. There are nine kinds of practices/ritual in ma’bunga’ lalang tradition following the stages of rice farming activities of Luwu society. Each practice/ritual has particular details of verbal and non-verbal acts which either performed by a bunga’ lalang (the leader of the tradition) himself representing the farmers in the village or performed together with all the farmers-villagers. Nowadays, ma’bunga’ lalang tradition is rarely performed due to several factors. Thus, it needs to be raised in the socio-cultural or local-governmental forum to raise the society awareness of the tradition and to discuss the preservation of the parts of the tradition that not contradict to religion and modern practice/science.","PeriodicalId":374972,"journal":{"name":"Walasuji : Jurnal Sejarah dan Budaya","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133930328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
