This research used a mixed method (quantitative and qualitative) with SWOC analysis. Qualitative methods were used to obtain components of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges through group interviews, observation, and the previous year's program documents. The sample consisted of 150 personnel involving the head of departments, school supervisors, headmasters, teachers, administration staff, guardianship of student organizations, alumni representatives, and parent representatives. Quantitative data collection was conducted through instrument in the form of questionnaires using a model of Likert scale. The obtained data were then grouped into components of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenge of the schools. All of those components are tested first on their validity and reliability with 100 personnel as a sample of quantitative analysis. These four components are then analysed by quantitative Factor Analysis method based on Internal Factor Analysis Summary (IFAS) and the External Factor Analysis Summary (EFAS) to get the resultant value. The resultant value was then filled into Cartesian diagrams resulting in the organization’s position. The final result of the research is: The stages of strategic planning in the Indonesian vocational high schools, dominant factors of the schools at present conditions based on the resultant calculation, and the future strategic planning for vocational high schools in Indonesia. It is hoped that the result of this study can be beneficial for the policymaker, stake holder, school principals, and other researchers in related fields.","PeriodicalId":37473,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41487194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

TVET based institutions in Malaysia are known as formal and informal learning sector which provide youthful people with the expertise and skills needed in the work sector. However, TVETbased qualifications and careers in Malaysia are perceived poorly and does not receive recognition in the workplace in terms of employability. These institutions cannot achieve their predetermined goals without effective leadership as the success and failure of the objectives depend on lecturers. Over the last three decades, transformational leadership has achieved legitimacy that has been showed to be an effective and influential enabler especially in developing employees’ attitudes and behaviours. Thus, the aim of present research is determining the role of lecturer’s transformational leadership in effecting students’ employability. This study was conducted in ten (10) Technical and Vocational Education & Training (TVET) institutions located at Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. A total of 350 final year students were involved in this research which used the quantitative research design approach. Pearson correlations, linear regression and multiple regressions analysis were used to analyse the collected data. The findings indicated that lecturer’s transformational leadership significantly and positively correlated with students’ employability. In addition, the result also indicated that students’ employability can be affected by role of lecturer’s transformational leadership style. Based on the findings, it is indicated that lecturers must display an effective inspirational motivation, idealized influence, individualized consideration and intellectual stimulation which will then stimulate employability development among students especially in TVET institutions.","PeriodicalId":37473,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49220234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, teachers need help and support in order to create changes in their practices. In some countries like Malaysia, the support is offered through coaching. Effective coaching takes place if teachers and coaches play their effective leadership roles and equip themselves with various attributes of coaching. Subsequently, this allows instructional changes to take place. A traditional idea of leadership focus on an individual managing a hierarchical system. Therefore, it poses a significant barrier for teachers to work together and does not provide teachers with autonomy as a leader. In the practice of coaching however, teachers play the different roles of leadership. Hence, this study looks at the perception of teachers and coaches on the implementation of coaching in Malaysian schools.  Moreover, it looks at a form of instructional support given to teachers in helping them to improve their classroom practices which eventually leads to increased students’ learning outcome. This article specifically discusses the application of five attributes of coaching namely collaboration, support, feedback, reflect and trust. The study also looks at the leadership role of the coaches in coaching teachers to create instructional improvements. Data of this quantitative study were gathered through a set of questionnaires which was administered to 470 teachers and coaches in primary and secondary school in Selangor and Sabah. Analysis of findings were based on descriptive analysis using SPSS as well as inferential analysis using Smart PLS. The findings of the study provide and insight on the role of coaching attributes and coaching leadership in helping teachers and coaches to create changes and improvements in classroom practices which leads to increased learning outcomes. It also illustrates the significant relationship between coaching attributes and the role of leadership in the implementation of coaching in Malaysian schools.","PeriodicalId":37473,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45990014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Findings revealed high levels of identity orientation, immediacy behaviour, organizational commitment and a very high level of teacher self-efficacy. A significant relationship was shown between all latent exogenous variables and organizational commitment; all latent exogenous variables significantly influenced the endogenous variable organizational commitment. The most parsimonious model 5 conveyed a generalized new concept that teacher commitment was primarily grounded on continuance and affective organizational commitment, defined from the nature of identity orientation which was influenced by social and collective identity, and which must be highly reinforced with verbal and nonverbal immediacy behaviour of teachers. Structural Model 5, which depicted the direct causal relationships of identity orientation and immediacy behaviour to the organizational commitment of teachers, was found to be the best fit and most parsimonious model.","PeriodicalId":37473,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44313669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Operationally, the objectives of this study include: (1) developing components, indicators, and instrument items for evaluating PR performance in educational institutions, (2) examining the validity and reliability of the instruments, and (3) investigating the readability of the instruments which has been developed. To achieve this goal, researchers conducted Design and Development research by mixing quantitative and qualitative approaches. The subject of this research, in the first stage namely to design instruments, develop components and indicators, included 10 respondents who were chosen purposively consisting of evaluation experts (2 people), and PR practitioners (8 people). The second stage involved 12 respondents from public relations practitioners intended to reveal the validity and reliability of the instruments. The third stage, to know the readability of the instrument, involved 50 respondents from PR practitioners. The data were collected using Focus Group Discussion technique in the first stage and assessment sheet in the second and third stage. The data analysis technique in the first stage was an interactive analysis of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014). To analyse the validity of the instrument, the researcher employed content validity based on the expert panel assessment, and analysed it with the Aiken V formula. The Cronbach Alpha coefficient criteria with at least 0.7 was applied for reliability test to determine the conformity between the results of the assessment carried out by two assessors (rater). The data analysis technique for examining the feasibility of the instrument viewed from the readability aspect is based on the mean score > 3.4 - 4.2 out of 5 or in the feasible classification, referring to the conversion of quantitative data to qualitative data on a scale of 5. The results of the research were: (1) The components of PR practitioners performance in this research include fostering good relations with the internal public, promoting good relations with the external public, and improving the capacity of public relations practitioners; (2) 26 instruments meet the requirements for validity and reliability, the Aiken V validity coefficient is > 0.69 and the reliability coefficient is α = 0.978> 0.7; (3) The readability of instruments is in a good or appropriate category for use as indicated by the mean score of 3.91 out of 5. The implication of this research includes help ease school leaders, industry leaders, and policymakers to evaluate the performance of PR practitioners.","PeriodicalId":37473,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43887823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quality education is often associated with better learning environment, adequate resources, and quality teachers. Previous studies in Malaysia were mainly focused on socio-economic factors that determine students’ performance and were consistently focused on students’ performance in national schools. This study aims to identify school level factors that determine National Type Chinese School students’ performance in UPSR examinations. This study also analyses whether there are gaps in school level resources between higher performing and lower performing Chinese schools. Questionnaires were distributed to two hundred teachers in National Type Chinese schools around the area of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, Malaysia. Data were then analysed using inferential statistics such as multiple regression analysis and t-test. Results indicate that band of school, number of teachers, small class size, average parents’ income, fund allocated, instructional materials, science laboratory, teacher shortage and leadership are important school level factors that determine students’ performance in UPSR examinations. The findings show that teachers perceive that there are significant differences between higher performing and lower performing schools in terms of school resources such as books, internet connections, teachers’ leadership, classroom management. These findings provide insights to policy makers on the necessary policy interventions that need to be taken to ensure quality education regardless of the performance of schools.","PeriodicalId":37473,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47042895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Financial management includes efficient management of school financial resources. However, the lack of financial resources affects students' achievement. Schools often encounter problems in providing the facilities needed by students. Schools receive financial resources in terms of per capita grants, public contributions and other government assisted funds such as scholarships and food supplements. The purpose of this study is to determine the adequacy of financial resources assigned to the National Type Tamil schools which are based on enrolment. This study was conducted in 30 National Type Government Tamil Schools and 16 National Type Government Assisted Tamil Schools in the State of Perak, Malaysia. A total of 276 respondents were involved in this survey. A logistic regression test was used to analyse factors contributing to the adequacy of financial provision for subjects, library, guidance and counselling and recurring expenditures. The findings indicate that policy makers should consider other factors such as socio-economic status and the type of schools in determining school funding allocation. Thus, the funding formula should not just be based on student enrolment.","PeriodicalId":37473,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47135136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
