However, internal and external factors in schools make school outcomes unpredictable, thus making bureaucracy an effective managerial and analytical tool which can be used to examine and direct organizational structure. This study examined the mediating effect of school-based management on school climate, bureaucracy and effectiveness in secondary schools. A quantitative research of cross-sectional survey with population of 7,533 teachers was employed. Four sets of instruments were adapted and administered on sample of 350 teachers in Nigeria secondary schools through stratified random sampling of the proportionate method. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis was employed to test the fitness of data in relation to constructs in the model and further confirm hypotheses generated for this study. The findings of revealed that underlying predictors were true measure of their respective constructs. There is a mediation effect of school-based management on bureaucracy and school effectiveness while other path analysis revealed that school-based management did not mediate between school climate and school effectiveness. This study expands theory on bureaucracy as bright side and validates the assertion that, bureaucracy is required in public schools.","PeriodicalId":37473,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48753521","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among the factors of role stress are role conflicts, role ambiguity and role overload. The main purpose of this research is to study the influence of selected factors such as role conflict factor, role ambiguity and role overload on role stress among the Malaysian National Primary School teachers. This study was designed by utilizing the quantitative approach. The instrument used was a questionnaire which has been adapted from various relevant researchers. A total of 150 teachers were randomly selected as respondents and the data obtained were analysed using SPSS for descriptive statistics and Smart PLS for the inferential statistics. The findings show that the level of stress was at moderate level. In addition, the findings indicate that there is a significant relationship between role conflicts (s=0.212, t=2.640, P=0.009), role ambiguity (s=0.219, t=2.701, P=0.007) and role overload (s=0.372, t=4.364, P=0.000) to role stress. As a conclusion, this study demonstrates that role conflicts, role ambiguity and role overload have a major impact to the role stress of teachers in Malaysia. It is hoped that through this study, various stakeholders such as schools, the district education offices as well as the Ministry of Education will be able to assist in planning and organizing efforts to address the role stress issues in order to produce highly qualified teachers.","PeriodicalId":37473,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46169303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to a lack of meta-analysis, the types of pedagogical practices used by teachers in enhancing students’ HOTS in the local context is unclear. This study used a meta-analytical approach to fill in the gap in literature on the pedagogical practices of HOTS in Malaysian classrooms. A total of 32 empirical studies were included in the analyses. Therefore, this paper aims at synthesising the pedagogical practices of teaching HOTS among Malaysian teachers. The findings offered a synthesis of HOTS pedagogical practices employed by teachers in Malaysian schools, which could be categorised as practices that promote and practices that inhibit the teaching of HOTS. The synthesis revealed that some practices that promoted the teaching of HOTS were brainstorming, constructivist learning, inquiry teaching, thinking map, and problem-based learning whereas some practices that inhibited the teaching of HOTS were teacher-centered learning and teaching lower-order thinking skills.","PeriodicalId":37473,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46025779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Basically, EEP integrates the teaching of environmental content knowledge within the natural resources in the village. In terms of growth, the NES have witnessed increasing demand of EEP from both public and private schools due to the need to support students’ learning experience that are not achievable in the classrooms. This phenomenon has led to the purpose of research to explore the unique strategies, benefits, and challenges of the NES while dealing with EEP in their context. In terms of research design, it is an explorative case study using the method of participantobservation, prolonged engagement, purposive sampling and data collection from 16 key respondents that includes interviews with the Principal of NES and the middle management, online surveys with selected members from the village’s Private Resort Operators’ Association (PROA) and 10 facilitators who had been actively involved in the planning, organizing, leading and the monitoring of EEP in the last 5 years. For data analyses, the respondents’ transcripts were coded through open, axial and selective coding. In addition, triangulation method was used to compare between with field-notes, on-site interviews and online surveys to improve the credibility, dependability, and confirmability of data. As findings, the NES in the case study experienced both contextual benefits and challenges that require unique educational management and leadership strategies in their EEP. Discussion from this case study suggests four unique strategies used by the NES to implement EEP successfully: (a) Planning the EEP module must be visionary and capitalize on environmental content knowledge through links with field experts and universities, organisational learning and training; (b) Organizing of EEP must consider the people, task, content, processes and the availability of natural resource; (c) Leading visitors to focus on sustainable use of natural resource and contributing to future programs of EEP; and (d) Monitoring the organisation’s systems, visibility and specialisation in EEP. As for future suggestions of research, the tasks of evaluating the quality of EEPs ought to consider other factors such as; (a) exploring andragogy for adult participants in EEP, (b) creating advance EEP modules for the facilitators, and (c) Creative and innovative use of natural resources for EEP.","PeriodicalId":37473,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68675183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
