A total of 118 participants aged 18-25 years old took part in the study. Participants completed self-report questionnaires using the Mental Health Intention Scale, Self-Stigma of Seeking Help Scale, Attitude Towards Seeking Professional Help Scale, and Stigma Scale for Receiving Psychological Help. The multiple linear regression analysis showed that the intention to seek psychological help was significantly associated with the TPB predictors. The attitude toward help-seeking was found to be the most influential predictor of an emerging adult's intention to find out psychological help. Based on the findings of this study, the interventions related to the psychological help-seeking intention should consider individual attitudes, norms, and beliefs.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47776011","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sexual prejudice and opposition to same-gender couple’s rights are strongly linked with support of traditional values. The current study aimed to test that attributions for sexual orientation are significantly associated with opposition to same-gender adoption rights. Secondly, this study examined if participants’ specific attitudinal characteristics reflecting support of traditional values (e.g., religiosity, political positioning) are strong predictors of sexual orientation attribution beliefs supporting the concept that attributions for sexual orientation may stem from pre-existing conventional beliefs. This exploratory, cross-sectional study was conducted from October 8 until December 20, 2020, via an online survey. A total of 119 respondents aged 18 to 48 years (Mage = 24.31; SDage = 8.36) participated in the study. Bivariate correlations were generated to explore the associations among variables of interest. Multiple regression analysis was performed to predict the influences of all variables of interest on etiological beliefs about sexual orientation. This study’s findings suggest that attitudes toward sexual minorities' rights tend to be more negative when their sexual orientation is believed to be controllable and that sexual orientation attributions conform to pre-existing context-specific conventional socio-cultural values and norms.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41570835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The focus is on case studies and issues related to humanities and social sciences journals, as the inclusion of humanities research in the global referencing system lags behind scholarly publications. The reasons for this, which lead to the unequal presence of research from the exact sciences and from the social sciences, are also examined. Based on the material from specific case studies, some problematic moments for Bulgarian journals are presented, related to the process of blind peer review, the ethics of publication and the bibliographic section.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45118753","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results showed positive correlations between trait anxiety and test anxiety, and between state anxiety and test anxiety. Negative correlations emerged between general self-efficacy and state anxiety, trait anxiety and test anxiety. It was possible to verify that high levels of general self-efficacy together with low levels of trait anxiety predicted 27% test anxiety variance. While similar results were found in previous works, these findings amplify the scope of research to specific contexts such as Latin American university students. It is recommended to continue the study of these variables in situations as close as possible to the exam situation and considering changes in educational setting worldwide due to the COVID-19 pandemic, thus allowing the promotion of student’s welfare throughout programs that promote general self-efficacy as a protective variable.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42392458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A sample of 689 undergraduate students completed self-report measures of self-esteem, humour styles and loneliness. Previous research (Cacioppo Patrick, 2009) indicates an inverse relationship between self-esteem and loneliness and factors within the social environment have been argued to play a role in this relationship. Humour styles used in social interactions have been found to be associated with different levels of self-esteem and loneliness. Significant specific indirect mediation effects were found for all four humour styles. The interpersonally beneficial humour styles contributed to lower perceived loneliness, whereas use of the interpersonally detrimental humour styles resulted in higher experiences of loneliness. The results are discussed in terms of the individual and social consequences of the humour styles.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41918492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Is the level of religiousness high? Are their religious beliefs associated with their religious practices? Are there any differences in religiousness between employees in religious work environment (RWE) and non-religious work environment (NRWE)? Using responses from 370 Malay Muslim employees, several measures of religiousness were analyzed. Analyses were done to determine descriptive statistics, correlations, and group differences. Findings showed that the influence of Islam was highly prevalent at all levels. They reported influence of Islam not only at personal level, but also at both upbringing and organizational levels. Religiousness was high, while beliefs and practices were interrelated. Malay Muslim employees in RWE were observed to have higher Islamic religiousness relative to those in NRWE. These findings highlight that in a theistic society where religiousness is already high, the nature of work environment can still potentially play a role in making a difference.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48257313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We argue that the levels of perceived stress vary in relation to the area of occupation and that there are specific coping strategies for dealing with stress among the representatives of the different areas of occupation. The study was conducted online via the Kwiksurveys platform. The data were collected during the period of first lock down - last week of March 2020. A total number of 688 people took part in the survey. Four occupational areas were distinguished – Social work, law or politics; Education and science; Economics and business; Engineering and IT. The method used collects socio-demographic data, measures perceived stress and distinguish coping strategies. The results reveal the highest levels of perceived stress among representatives working in the area of Education and Science. They use Categorical thinking, Naïve optimism and Esoteric thinking as coping strategies significantly more often than other groups. An interesting outcome is that Emotional Coping, Behavioural coping and Superstitious thinking seem to be universal coping strategies. Possible factors underlying the stress among the representatives of the most stressed group and possible implications of the results are discussed.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42024674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It reflects the way each member of the parental dyad appraises the other’s strengths and weaknesses as a parent and their joint parenting work. The Parenting Alliance Measure (PAM) was developed to measure this construct reliably, but with limited representation of minorities in its original sample. The aim of this study was to explore the factor structure and psychometric properties of a Spanish version of the complete PAM in an Argentinian sample. Two hundred twenty-seven parents from Buenos Aires completed the PAM. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was completed based on the Unweighted Least Squares estimation method with oblique promax rotation on a polychoric correlation matrix and parallel analysis as the extraction method. Statistical analysis yielded a two-factor solution retaining 18 of the PAM’s initial 20 items that explained 65% of the variance. Each factor was composed of 9 items. Factor 1 was related to respect towards the other parent and Factor 2 to the quality of their communication and teamwork. These results support the use of the PAM with Argentinian samples.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49623655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the current study is to investigate the factors that help individuals maintain psychological well-being under the condition of self-isolation, a global restriction against the spread of the pandemic. Specifically, the role of trait emotional intelligence, self-compassion, and rumination was explored in order to determine how these variables relate to psychological well-being. According to the results, trait emotional intelligence and self-compassion positively correlate with psychological well-being, while rumination is negatively correlated. Self-compassion mediates the relationship between emotional intelligence and well-being. The relationship between rumination and well-being is affected by emotional intelligence and self-compassion: Self-compassion mediates the relationship between depression related rumination and well-being, while self-control and emotionality factors of trait emotional intelligence moderate the relationship between reflection rumination and well-being. The findings of the current study provide insight about self-compassion, rumination, and emotional intelligence as different contributing factors to the individuals’ well-being in self-isolation, suggesting further implications about the use of these strategies to help people cope with this stressful situation.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45261163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data from the stress sector found that over 65% of the respondents have good levels of stress resilience in the skills for adaptation to the emergency situation in terms of the presence of control in the situation, ability to manage time, preserved opportunities for concentration and lack of hopelessness. With regard to the anxiety sector, a low percentage of respondents from the four groups is reported, in which the presence of internal tension is registered, which does not depend on the type of settlement. In the motivation sector, a significantly optimistic tendency of perception was found on the part of the respondents, confirming relatively high levels of motivation for learning/teaching in the digital environment. At the level of emotional intelligence, a positive orientation is revealed among a large percentage of the respondents in the context of available mental resources or internal readiness for learning/teaching in the conditions of e-learning.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49168438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
