Although individual differences in the frequency of future-self-related thoughts are recognised and associated with different mental health outcomes, less is known about the moderating effects of the clarity of these thoughts on this relationship. This study used standard (direct) multiple regression analyses to examine the potential moderating role of clarity on the relationship between frequency and mental health among an online student sample. The study found future clarity moderated the effect of future frequency on the mental health measure of anxiety but not depression or stress. Further research in this area may assist the development of new cognitive treatments for mental health.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47325332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study used an existing application of historical trauma conceptualized as historical perceived loss and associated symptoms of that perceived loss such as grief, anger, sadness and depression to determine prevalence and correlates of historical loss among 129 African Americans aged 18 to over 65 from Illinois and Florida in the United States. The respondents also completed a survey to identify potential historical trauma transmission pathways. The results indicated respondents reported they thought about historical losses such as land, language, and spiritual ways at least yearly or at special times and sometimes or more had feelings or associated symptoms of historical loss such as sadness or depression or being uncomfortable around White people. Bivariate and multivariate correlational analyses showed significantly statistical differences between age and historical loss and associated symptoms where younger respondents had more frequent thoughts about historical loss and experienced more associated emotions, which was unexpected. A correlation was also found between occasionally hearing family stories of enslavement and discrimination and thoughts of historical loss","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47041821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study analyzes the relationship between the complex of personality traits “The Dark Triad” and Aggression and in correlation with the aggression sub-types such as physical aggression, verbal aggression, anger, and hostility. The study was conducted on delinquent women that were sentenced to prison for violent crimes, including murder. The participants were 30 female prisoners from Bulgarian women's prison, aged between 22 and 69 years, (M = 47,36, SD = 11.71). The instruments that were used in the research are the Bulgarian adaptation of the Dark Triad Questionnaire and the Buss and Perry Aggression Questionnaire. Correlation analysis shows that there are significant relationships between scores on the scales of the Dark Triad questionnaire and general aggression. Dark Triad traits are significant predictors of all types of aggression, especially between psychopathic traits and physical aggression. Based on the findings of the study, it can be designed psycho-educational programs to prevent criminal behavior, and psycho-re-educational programs to improve the behavior of delinquent women.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48850849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 798 Argentinian adolescents aged between 12 and 18 years (M = 14; SD = 1.31) participated in this study. The psychometric properties of the instrument were analyzed from the contributions of the Rasch model, which allowed us to assess the measurement model fit, response threshold order, item and person fit, local dependence, differential item functioning (DIF), reliability, targeting, and unidimensionality. The results showed that the STAI-T, anxiety-absent items, and anxiety-present items presented values close to the expected ones for item and person fit, ordered response categories, appropriate reliability levels, and adequate targeting. Only in anxiety-absent items, it was possible to verify compliance with unidimensionality, whereas in anxiety-present items there were items with local dependence or showing DIF. The present study provides empirical evidence based on a rigorous measurement model that allows corroborating the validity of the scale to assess anxiety in Argentinian adolescents.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42026012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Freud's ideas by Bulgarian psychoanalytic authors who worked actively in the period of the 20s - 40s of the 20th century, when it was the peak of the psychoanalytic movement in Bulgaria. With the establishment of communist power on 9/09/1944, our country fell under Soviet influence, and the spread of psychoanalysis was prohibited; Marxist-Leninist philosophy is declared to be the only correct one. The second emphasis is related to the presentation of the discussions and controversies between Freudians and non-Freudians. The role of the journals \"Philosophical Review\", \"Zlatorog\", etc., whose editors open their pages widely for the publication of psychoanalytic writings, as well as other psychological and philosophical articles, is emphasized for the dissemination of psychoanalysis. The contribution of the great philosopher Academician Dimitar Mikhalchev in this regard is indisputable. By popularizing the psychoanalytic ideas of Freud (and much less of K. Jung and A. Adler), and also by writing their original psychoanalytic works, Bulgarian psychoanalytically oriented authors contribute to the enrichment of social and intellectual life with new ideas, values, and guidelines of thinking.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48534340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The subjective nature of saudade was studied using both qualitative and quantitative methodology. The sample consisted of 199 Portuguese college students. Participants were asked to express the circumstances that usually trigger a saudade experience, the feelings they usually associate with the experience, and the main coping strategies they usually try to implement when confronted with the experience. The saudade experience was conceived to be primarily triggered in situations of spatial or spatial-temporal distancing from significant individuals. The emotion most often mentioned directly was sadness. During saudade, some people try to sustain the emotion in different ways, for example by approaching objects that may prolong it; others tend to get rid of the emotion as quickly as possible, and still others tend to accept the experience and do nothing special to change it. The use of quantitative tools showed that the usual strength of the saudade experience was close to the maximum value.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43801298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the basis of this undertaking, in the study were explored the similarities and relationships of the Buddhist belief that it is possible to end the suffering in life, and then venture on “the path to happiness”, compared with a Western, post-modern narrative informed approach to psychotherapy for persons in relationship with mental suffering. The analysis of the historic and current belief systems has indicated similar philosophical and practical positioned relationships between Tibetan Buddhism’s Four Noble Truths, and current Western understandings of mental suffering, and a narrative informed approach to psychotherapy. These comparative constructs, that span many centuries, should provide supportive insights and considerations to current understanding of causes, and the nature of human responses to living experiences that initiate and maintain mental suffering. In addition, they should also promote confidence for discerning perceptions and support for person’s to deal effectively with phenomena resulting in mental suffering, with a narrative informed approach to psychotherapy.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44679564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, to make multi-group comparisons, factors within the measurement instrument must be invariant across groups. This invariance is necessary to ensure that any significant differences found between groups are due to group affiliation and not due to measurement errors in the instrument’s factors. The study examined measurement invariance of the ERQ by gender using an Ecuadorian sample, where very few studies have previously investigated this issue. The sample included 815 college students. A confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the bi-factor model presented the best fit. The ERQ was invariant by gender at the strict level according to multi-group confirmatory factor analysis. The ERQ also presented good reliability scores for both men and women with no significant differences between genders. These results confirm that the ERQ is a reliable instrument and that it can detect differences in the use of emotional regulation strategies between men and women without risking errors caused by measurement variance.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49475101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
