The present study examines how work-family conflict influenced marital satisfaction among Malaysian Chinese dual-earner couples using a dyadic approach. Results from the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM) indicated that work-family conflict (work-to-family and family-to-work) were associated with a lower level of marital satisfaction. Work-family conflict has a significant negative impact on marital satisfaction for both husbands and wives (actor effect). However, no significant results were found for the partner effect. Both actor and partner effects were reported and discussed. The present findings provide empirical evidence on the spillover and crossover effects of work-family conflict on marital satisfaction and add to the literature by utilizing advanced data analysis technique, APIM by collecting dyadic data. The implications of the findings were discussed as well as the suggestions for future research.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46943064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The respondents in the study were 2156 nurses from various regions in Indonesia (34 provinces), consisting of 613 males (28.4%) and 1543 females (71.6%). The number of nurses consisted of 300 respondents (13.9%) from the western region of Indonesia, 1825 respondents (84.6%) from the central region of Indonesia, and 31 respondents (1.4%) from the eastern region of Indonesia. The Rating Scale Model used to investigate the questionnaire's psychometric properties. The analysis results showed that the perceived stigma questionnaire met all the psychometric aspects (unidimensionality, item fit analysis, item validity, diagnostic rating scale, and reliability). Rasch Model analysis showed a value that meets all aspects measured criterion limit. Therefore, this perception stigma questionnaire can measure the perceived stigma of Covid-19 among nurses in Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45002680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Positive emotions like resilience and gratitude have been proven to be able to improve one’s well-being. The theory of Broaden-and-build was used to explore resilience’s mediating role in the relationship between gratitude and well-being among Malaysian adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. The data of 530 participants aged 18 to 35 years was analyzed using SmartPLS. The results showed that grateful and more resilient participants showed a better well-being, and the effects were further moderated by financial income and marital status. The results also supported the hypothetical statistical mediation model in which resilience is the statistical mediator for the association between gratitude and well-being. The results highlighted the significant influence of gratitude and resilience on Malaysian adults’ well-being and explained the role of gratitude in boosting their well-being. It is suggested that policymakers and mental health professionals should consider promoting gratitude and resilience to increase positive emotions and well-being in young adults and help society to be prepared for challenging times of adversity in the future.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69988216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was hypothesized that the relationship between future time perspective and procrastination would be negative, but positive with motivation, and that age and gender would have a differential moderating effect on those. This study was online and questionnaire-based. 257 undergraduate Psychology students aged 18–44 from the Catholic Argentinean University took part in the study. The results of moderation analysis allowed accepting partially the hypothesis formulated for procrastination, but for motivation the hypothesis was partially confirmed, since the relationship between future time perspective and motivation was not significant for men or for older students. These findings provide some insight into the role of future time perspective in behavior outcomes, especially in critical contexts like one of the pandemic, and how internal differences might enhance or diminish it. Moreover, the inclusion of certain psychological measures could be taken in order to compensate negative effects that higher procrastination and lower motivation can have in students.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":"9 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41247187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

(1988). It examines the understanding of the facial feedback hypothesis. For this experiment, participants were asked to rate the funniness of a cartoon after completing tasks using only their lips or teeth to hold a pen, thereby facilitating a smile or a frown. In addition to that, there have been discussed cognitive-behavioural therapy elements on the presentation of emotions following physical reactions. It was a between-participants design in which respondents were asked to complete a questionnaire in the lips or teeth condition to generate emotional states of physical reaction required to underline cognitive precipitants. In this study, a within-participants correlational design was also conducted between extraversion and altruism to consider the possibility whether these two variables could relate to funniness or not. To test that, participants were asked to rate the humour of a far side cartoon. The results did not confirm the hypothesis that those in the teeth condition rated the cartoon funnier than those in the lips condition meaning that facial reaction does not necessarily imply respective emotional states due to cognitive elements, such as awareness and attention, which posit reason as a more important factor than emotions. Discussion of the results in line with physiological and cognitive aspects and their implications to future research had also been carried out.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49121960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The questionnaire assessed the hypothesized relationships that traditional Chinese values had with personal life outcomes, including health, employment, satisfaction of the five needs from Maslow’s hierarchy, and life satisfaction. The interviews examined the relationships that several demographic variables had with living by traditional Chinese values. The results of the empirical data revealed that most Chinese people today are still living according to the traditional Chinese cultural values, and that living by those traditional values are strongly associated with satisfaction of all five of the human needs in the Maslow hierarchy, as well as with overall life satisfaction. Additionally, the results of the qualitative interviews readily supported the empirical findings, and also revealed that the time during which inter-generational transmission of the Chinese cultural values occurs is when parents teach those values to their children at a very early age, that is, between 3 and 8 years old, before the children start primary school. ","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41479282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can be seen as a socially, physically, psychologically, and culturally challenging and transformative period, and may affect women’s physical and mental health. Objectives of this study are to investigate significant differences in health-related quality of life and indicators of mental health in women during pregnancy and after giving birth and to explore the association patterns between these variables during pregnancy and after giving birth. The study included 57 Romanian women enrolled from July 2019 until the end of April 2020 through Facebook groups dedicated to pregnant women and mothers, forums, and support groups. The women completed the set of questionnaires twice: during pregnancy and one month after giving birth. The participants reported significantly lower levels of depressive symptoms in the second semester of pregnancy compared to the assessment conducted one month after giving birth. Physical functioning, affectionate expression, and vitality proved to significantly improve after giving birth. Emotional well-being, social functioning, and cohesion seem to lower significantly after giving birth. The results of the study can be used as a basis for designing, planning, and implementing appropriate interventions for women by healthcare providers and policymakers.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43730040","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Terms such as millennials or Generation Z are already used worldwide, even if the sociological origins of the generation theory are less known by the general public. Although Generation Z was defined as digital natives, there are voices trying to suggest that a new digital native generation is here, and its name is Generation Alpha or screenagers. We are not sure if there is a clear border between these digital native generations, although there are some recent findings identifying them as more curious, creative, or self-determined than their predecessors. The technology dependence also brings relational and emotional issues, and we used the term of \"screamagers\" to describe their ill-tempered behaviors. However, there is a risk of devolving into stereotyping, when the scientific evidence on this topic, for now, seems to be scarce. Perhaps it is too early to speak about a new generation and more scientific studies are needed to increase our understanding of the evolution of people born after 2010.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43552493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article presents the study of the relationship between professional burnout and emotional intelligence in a Greek sample of teachers. Dimension of Personal Achievement was found to correlate positively with all dimensions of emotional intelligence: Regulation of emotion, Other’s emotion appraisal, Self emotion appraisal, and Use of emotions. Emotional exhaustion and depersonalization in the context of burnout are negatively related to the dimensions of emotional intelligence. High emotional intelligence is significantly associated with low emotional exhaustion and a low degree of depersonalization in teachers. This study supports the predictive role of emotional intelligence concerning burnout.","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44542540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As no study has compared self-compassionate and self-protective responses during the two-chair technique, the aim was to analyze participants’ subjective responses in reacting to self-criticism during the technique and compare self-compassionate and self-protective statements. The research sample comprised 80 participants; 60 women and 20 men (M = 23.86; SD = 5.98). The investigation underwent consensual qualitative analysis. The results showed four main domains for self-compassion and self-protection: cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and interpersonal aspects. In several cases, the participants utilized self-compassion and self-protection simultaneously or subsequently, and both types of responses to some degree supplemented each other or were intertwined. Self-protection and self-compassion are complimentary. Only by combining these two constructs can individuals assertively protect themselves while being kind to themselves and others. In the case of self-compassion, the results confirm several findings from previous studies, but in the case of self-protection, this is the first more detailed exploration of this construct because it has not been studied sufficiently to date. ","PeriodicalId":37380,"journal":{"name":"Psychological Thought","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44650519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
