Robu","doi":"10.12753/2066-026x-18-088","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.12753/2066-026x-18-088","url":null,"abstract":"As online education services have grown in popularity over the last decade, the need to offer an alternative solution to hands-on measurement activities, especially in the engineering related fields, became one of the top priorities. Blended learning approach is, nowadays, a must for students, teachers and researchers. This paper presents a thin client implementation for a web-service browser based real and emulated tele-measurement of electronic devices and circuits. The thin client offers a web-service based visualization of tele-measurement results as well as multiple-choices in aspects of formats and representations. It displays a customized appearance adapted to the device screen size, to the available input methods (touch screen, mouse, keyboard) and to the available bandwidth, covering the demands in respect of quality of service and quality of experience. Another important feature, fully covered by the proposed implementation, is the ease of access, as the thin client can be accessed simply via common browsers. Furthermore, as enhanced security and reduced computing power needs are highly important, the thin client does not imply additional plugins or third party dependencies which increase the risks and often require additional resources. In recent years, their use in higher education has been related to meaningful technology integration for increasing student engagement and developing 21st century employability skills, integration of new and old literacies, social and collaborative learning, and constructing new understandings of contexts in the process of theorizing personal experiences. The study continues the authors’ previous research by proposing a method of embedding employability skills in the curriculum of Romanian for Academic Purposes to first year undergraduates studying sociology at Babes-Bolyai University. A research scenario is provided for a complex investigation of the ways teaching methodology can help digitally native students integrate 21st century skills with view to their transition from secondary to higher education and further, into the job market. Formative and summative assessments cover digital, media, communication, and collaboration competencies in relation to the processes and final product. A quantitative analysis is performed on data collected from project pages hosted by the e-learning platform logs (wiki) and compared with learning outcomes. Additionally, a selection of relevant case studies is described to illustrate findings and the potential of this instrument. Contemporary preschool teachers, of the 21st century, are expected to follow all contemporary events related to their profession and implement them in their practice. It is necessary that they adapt their teaching style to the individual needs and interests of preschool children. In this context, preschool teachers need to have lifelong training in order to acquire expert and professional competencies and be recognized on the labour market as professionals who meet the criteria stipulated by the set standards. It is impossible to imagine a contemporary preschool teacher who does not use contemporary technologies in order to gain additional expert and professional competencies for working with preschool children. Nowadays, pedagogical record-keeping, planning, programming, realization of educational work and evaluation are all carried out with the use and support of contemporary technologies. Accredited trainings of preschool teachers and other educational workers can be realized through e-learning. The aim of this paper is to determine the observations of students – future preschool teachers about the possibilities of acquiring professional competencies through contemporary technologies. As a research problem, an issue arises as to whether the respondents already, during the course of their studies, acquire additional knowledge through contemporary technologies in order to advance their knowledge related to theoretical concepts and practical work. The sample included 200 respondents, students of undergraduate and specialist studies. A questionnaire was constructed for the needs of the research which was used in conducting a survey of students in November 2017. The results of the research show significant statistical differences regarding the responses of preschool teachers to several items. The research results suggest that students (future preschool teachers) need to be instructed in the direction of raising their awareness about the possibilities of using contemporary technologies with an aim of acquiring expert and professional competencies for a better quality of implementation of educational work in their future profession. The task of their university teachers is to point out the requirements of lifelong learning and the possibilities of contemporary technologies starting from their first year of studies and facilitate the acquisition of knowledge for them, in order to strengthen their expert and professional competencies. It focuses on a software interface developing aimed to help the examiner: quantifying rapid and proper to what extent each evaluated child is falling or not in one of the disabilities situations and quantify the handicap rehabilitation degree, due to some specific training activities (correction of amblyopia, squint, myopia, dyschromatopsia, coordination hand – eye etc.). Another aspect refers to the evaluation and stimulation and training of the concentration of attention. All of these actually can be accomplished due to specific tests, via a previously created device. The main role of the software is to provide in a very short time all necessary information for making a decision concerning the measures to be taken. The application allows data saving into EXCEL files, with the possibility to compare it subsequently. In this way it will be possible to evaluate in time the tests results, so that the visual function, the memory the hand – eye coordination evolution. Proof of this is that in the autumn of 2017, many school and preschool children have consistently shown their interest in such tests on the existing device. This is due to the fact that such of activities are considered by children as a game which stimulates them in personality development, in self-affirmation. The educational potential of the Internet cannot be exploited without the identification of epistemological and praxiological fundamentals, that underlie on the basis of valorization of this resource. Thus, it appears as a first necessity, to address a series of research in the educational practice, concerning how the Internet can be used to produce real added values towards a qualitative education. As we have seen from the analysis of the curriculum documents, as well as from the analysis of several lessons proposed by the teachers, the educational potential of the Internet is not just about identifying and transferring information, but it can be extended to the formation of a diverse set of skills and to the development of attitudes, behaviors and values. A challenge to which the educational actors - teachers, students or even parents - need to reflect, is represented by the way in which new information and communication technologies are integrated and involved in education, considering the Internet an area with a huge potential, as resource. The setup is employing electrooculographyc (EOG) biosignals recorded near the human operator’s eyes and are used to control the employed robot through Matlab® and LabVIEW®. The setup contains a Wi-Fi-based control signal issuing sub-part that is transmitting the commands to the robot. The user should be able to control the movements of the robot in the house and also can see where the robot is heading. A total of five low-level navigation commands are transmitted to the robot (“go backward”, “go forward”, “stop”, “turn left” and “turn right”) by the developed asynchronous HCI. This indoor navigation vehicle can be used by people with several types of neurodegenerative disease or high-level spinal cord injury caused by accident, which can hinder them to walk or to control a robot or wheelchair by using a computer’s keyboard or mouse or joystick. The setup has in its component an industrial National Instrument’s (NI) NI-9234 analog to digital converter (ADC), with 24 bit resolution per input channel. Intranet is used by the setup and it consists of two computers: on the first computer is running the LabVIEW® Robotics and MATLAB®; the second part is a laptop, connected through Wi-Fi to an action camera, which is placed on the robot. On the laptop’s screen can be seen where the robot is in real-time. Specific attention is given to why organizations use e-learning. This research reports the findings of a questionnaire study applied to students of the Faculty of Management and Public Administration of The Bucharest University of Economic Studies. The findings highlight the opportunities, the benefits and the barriers of using the methods of e-learning in the teaching activity and also present the social, cultural and ethical dimensions of it. The article focuses on strategies for improving the learning process while investigating the students’ opinion regarding these modern methods of learning. Learning is the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience. (Kolb, 1984, p.41) Studies have shown that e-learning is a very useful method of studying. E-learning is a key factor in teaching. Current trends in teaching embrace e-learning tools. E-learning provides some strategies of teaching to perform better in this area. The following article presents how e-learning courses improve teaching practices. Not all teachers are ready to deliver teaching by digital means, but technology has improved the ways of teaching and learning. Also the management of the university has to invest resources in developing the infrastructure to facilitate these modern methods of teaching. This article aims not to demonstrate that the traditional methods must be replaced by modern methods, but to prove that it is better to use the both of them in the teaching process. Thus, students are given the opportunity to apply methodological aspects related to: design of lessons and thematic units, intra and interdisciplinary approach of contents, analysis of some records, elaboration of observation grids and evaluation of lessons / activities. They are also actively involved in designing demonstration lessons, supporting, analyzing and evaluating their lessons or their colleagues. This study aims to illustrate how the internet can contribute to the preparation of students' activities in pedagogical practice at primary and pre-primary level. This research seeks to highlight the importance of accessing various sources in the online environment for informing and documenting students to support the demonstration lessons included in the pedagogical practice program. Considering the many advantages of computer use in the education system - the immense amount of information that can be accessed, the speed and accuracy of the operations performed, the ability to provide various representations of objects, processes and phenomena, as well as the ability to communicate interactively - the internet becomes a significant source of information and documentation. The internet is, at the same time, an effective way of spreading the novelty, disseminating good practice. The transformations in society are now taking place in schools and universities, the existence of the internet opening new perspectives on increasing the efficiency of learning activities. Madsen","doi":"10.12753/2066-026X-18-224","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.12753/2066-026X-18-224","url":null,"abstract":"The large number of sensors in the field, and the usage of IoT based equipment generate big collections of data, some of them being useful to address maintenance policies, replacement requirements, calibration, research on new data analysis models etc. Both industrial and social systems are increasing in complexity due to new technologies applied to information processing. Recent developments in embedding and integration offered new opportunities to collect, filter, analyse, and interpret huge collections of data generated by large populations of sensor, special devices, or people, and named \"Big Data\". This work emphasizes on conceptual issues and methodological aspects related to data registration, filtering, smoothing, analysing in order to predict important indicators of the quality of life. The systems reliability engineering field is revisited taking into account both data sources and the new methodologies used for reliability data. Software reliability of applications for smart cities is also addressed. The following frameworks are considered: Systems of Systems (SoS), Big Data, System Operating/Environmental (SOE) data, and Smart cities reliability. The SoS reliability engineering depends on its nature: virtual - based on resource sharing, collaborative - based on agreements, acknowledged - based on collaborative management through a well defined interface, and directed SoS - based on centralized management. The SoS reliability is estimated differently depending on the specific architecture and particular reliability requirements. When the reliability is considered in context Big data, both technologies are considered: batch processing (based on analytics on \"data at rest\") or stream processing (analytics on \"data in motion\"). The development of applied Physics projects using the Arduino platform implies the correlation of interdisciplinary information from Physics-related domains: Mathematics, Informatics, Electronics and Technology. In this study we intend to illustrate two interesting didactic projects. The first one emphasizes the electromagnetic force and provides a practical model of applying it: the stabilised levitation of a ferromagnetic object using an infrared barrier. The second one highlights the functioning of the optical sensors and their use for creating a musical instrument without chords: the laser harp. In order to develop the first project we constructed an electromagnet capable of generating an attraction force sufficiently powerful to make a ferromagnetic object suspended in the air levitate. The main practical problem consisted in stabilising the position of the object, so that a dynamic equilibrium between the electromagnetic force and the gravity force could be reached. This was solved with the help of an infrared barrier capable of stabilising the small oscillations of the body by continuously modifying the intensity level of the current through the electromagnet and implicitly of its attraction force. The second project was performed in two versions. During the first one we used lasers in the red domain of the visible spectrum, which were placed on a rectangular frame whose beams fell exactly on the optical sensors. In the second version the lasers were replaced by tiny flashlights having a wide range emission in the visible spectrum. The two types of projects fully confirmed didactic their importance.
