Pelloni","doi":"10.30687/annoc/2499-1562/2020/54/007","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30687/annoc/2499-1562/2020/54/007","url":null,"abstract":"The present article analyses the novel Gefährliche Verwandtschaft by German-Turkish writer Zafer Şenocak. It aims to reconstruct the author’s perspective on debates on migration and integration and to show in which way this affects the genesis of authorship represented in the novel. According to the thesis presented in this article, Gefährliche Verwandtschaft is first of all a novel about identity politics in newly reunited Germany. As a result, it also deals with historical perceptions and interpretations of the past. However, many representational pitfalls are involved in this process. Can refugees relate their story in a way that does not trap them into the role of victims? Can authors that choose to tell these stories avoid appropriating these experiences? It does so from the methodological angle of nation-making and through the seemingly counter-intuitive prism of Italian Orientalism(s). This article focuses on two key moments of both Italian and Mexican history: Post-Unification/Porfiriato and Ventennio/Post-Revolution. Building on Emily Apter’s concepts of untranslatability, this paper investigates how Wolf’s structural and thematic checkpoints instil a strong political commitment into her poetry. Furthermore, this engagement is here interpreted as the expression of the paradigm of the postmigrantische Gesellschaft. These traits occur also in his latest production, exemplified by The Book of My Lives (2013) and My Parents / This Does Not Belong To You (2019). In these two books the attention paid by the author to his relatives’ experiences may led to a comparison with the autofiction subgenre defined by A.K. Mortimer as ‘Allofiction’. (1985) Jakob Arjouni established a private investigator with a migration background, but whose lifestyle does not differ from that of the indigenous population.
