The time-domain response of infinite arrays of unit cells giving rise to NRI metamaterials is calculated using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method together with periodic boundary conditions (PBC). Subsequently, the correlation method, the MUSIC algorithm and the matrix pencil method are applied to the FDTD results and the resonances of those structures are estimated. A comparative study of the aforementioned algorithms is performed and the advantages of the matrix pencil algorithm are pointed out.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121393741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper a circular antenna array of 8 vertical dipoles with a feeding network is described, which provides m beams simultaneously in m directions for m subscribers with a full coverage of 360/spl deg/ around the basestation. By means of optimisation techniques it is either possible to provide a null without ambiguity in every direction, or to optimize the side lobe attenuation by calculating the amplitudes and phases of every antenna of the array. With this, detection finding or location based services are also possible.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122241707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventional leapfrog multigrid-FDTD or subgridding only directly couples one field variable between the grids, either the E or the H field, and the one that is not coupled is indirectly linked with the first by the FDTD equations. The FDTD method staggers the E and H fields. This means a strong numerical coupling for the directly connected field but only a weak coupling for the second field for multigrid-FDTD. There is nothing to prevent the weakly connected field from disengaging from each other in different grids, and if it does, it leads to instability. This can happen because there is nothing explicit that ties them together. Finally, a new and coherent approximation has been derived using the divergence and Green's theorems for the spatial derivative terms in the FDTD equations to enhance stronger coupling in multigrid-FDTD.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"161 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122862878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the reflector can not capture all of the feed array energy, the antenna basically is a lossy system. In addition, it is not applicable to small antennas.
