We use the variational property of the method of moments to argue that the slower MFIE convergence is caused by the identity operator associated with the MFIE. A regularization is given that improves the convergence rate of moment method solutions to the 2D MFIE by three orders of magnitude.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116980403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The numerical results show that accuracy of the calibration matrix can be improved by our definition. By using the method, mutual coupling effect of single-mode arrays can be calibrated with measured S parameters of the receiving array without external reference signals and/or numerical calculation of current distributions. Therefore, the proposed method would be useful for high-resolution DOA estimation with dipole or monopole arrays.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121918735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the past few years developments in the field of graphic processing units (CPU's) for video cards have vastly outpaced their general central processing unit (CPU) counterparts. As specifically applied to vector mathematic operations, the newest generation GPU's can generally outperform current CPU architecture by a wide margin. With the addition of large onboard memory units with significantly higher memory bandwidth than found in the main system, graphic cards can be utilized as a highly efficient vector mathematic co-processor. Implementing functions in high-level languages that utilize the vector processing power of the video cards, an appreciable increase in the effective speed for vector and matrix computations occurs in common FDTD implementations can be achieved. By formulating proper procedures to realize general vector computations on GPU's it will be possible to maximize the processing power available to an extent greater than possible without the addition of the video card.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124448122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the TL (transmission line) lightning return stroke model, the point-matched TDFE method is used to solve the telegraph equations that represent the line dynamic behavior, and the electromagnetic fields at ground level are computed using the dipole method. It is referred to as baseband, impulse or carrier-free, and it has been proposed for unlicensed operations over bandwidth spanning several GHz, provided the power spectral density of transmitted signals are adherent to some emission masks. From these considerations, it follows that UWB channels are frequency selective even if the channel consists of only a single path, thus significantly altering the shape of the transmitted pulse. In this paper, the authors intend to investigate about the frequency selective effects of common building materials in the frequency band where UWB systems are allowed to operate 3.1-10.6 GHz, thus deriving an UWB channel model composed by a cascade of two linear systems that accounts for the multipath propagation and pulse distortion. The motivation of this work is that the analysis of the filtering effects of the transmission through common building materials is a quite unexplored aspect in the context of ultra wide-band communications. The purpose of this paper is to consider the bandwidth ranging from 1 GHz to 18 GHz. The analysis has been performed both in time and frequency domain, using respectively a commercial available UWB transceiver and a network analyzer. The channel impulse and frequency responses have been analyzed in order to compare the obtained results and find a correspondence between them.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127229132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been shown that the average BER performance in the LOS environments is better than that in the NLOS ones despite higher fading correlations. The BER is obtained by computer simulations using MIMO channel measurements. We compare the performance with the one in NLOS environments. Furthermore, we investigate the BER performance of an eigenbeam-space division multiplexing (E-SDM) system where the channel state information is known also at the TX end.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123715722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Communications personnel responsible for the choice, configuration and orientation of antennas, and/or frequency management, rely on this knowledge for daily performance of their duties. The HMAS Cerberus radio frequency management course regularly delivers such training to a wide range of students, both from Australasia and South East Asia. Students have diverse academic backgrounds and experience, and may not have English as a first language. Because of this, teaching of underlying concepts needs to be addressed with a minimum of detailed mathematics. A comprehensive range of image-based training material developed privately by the author has been captured on a DVD entitled \"Introduction to antennas\". This paper discusses the DVD and some of the material.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127981024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
