In this paper, we propose algorithms for implementing adaptive M-QAM modulation for both OL- and CL-MIMO systems. The goal is to maximize the throughput subject to a target BER constraint. For OL-MIMO, the algorithm proposed finds the number of transmit antennas and the modulation index to be used for all streams. For CL-MIMO, the authors propose a new rate maximization scheme that, on the average, has 23% throughput improvement over OL-MIMO. The authors modify the water-filling and MMSE solutions to accommodate adaptive modulation and BER constraints. Flat Rayleigh-fading channel model is used in the simulations and assumes a perfect channel estimation.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121476038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The actual measurements and analysis were performed at six different frequencies ranging from 41 MHz to 918 MHz. An antenna on a vehicle in a roadway environment in the presence of Earth does not have antenna patterns or input impedances as if it were located in free space or over a perfectly conducting ground plane. Antenna patterns of a whip antenna on a vehicle were measured on an outdoor antenna range with the vehicle on a 10 meter diameter turntable. Patterns were also measured with the vehicle over real ground away from the turntable to determine the effects of the steel turntable on antenna patterns. The three-antenna gain measurement technique was used to measure antenna gain. The measured patterns and gains were compared to predictions using the numerical electromagnetics code (NEC-4) [G.J. Burke, Jan 1992].","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124354720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The extensions are applied and analyzed on commonly used wideband systems such as W-CDMA and OFDM. We focus on signal processing techniques for channel estimation and correction, including pilot-aided and decision-directed LMS-based adaptive estimation. Simulation study compares cases with one and two transmit/receive antennas and shows that BER of W-CDMA system consistently improves by exploiting multi-path diversity through additional antenna at the receiver, while additional transmit antenna is beneficial under specific channel conditions. BER performance in OFDM is more sensitive to the value of the channel's smallest eigen-value than to the eigen-spread. In most practical cases, therefore, the sub-channels with small eigen-values are not usable due to poor BER.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124066754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model is provided in a high-performance compact terrain database (CTDB) format with multi-elevation structure for use in high-resolution dynamic simulators. The effect of multipath propagation on the multiple access methods and the comparison of the WCDMA receiver against that of the UFO receiver in the urban setting is discussed. Simulation includes the bit-error-rate for a given satellite power, and the power needed at the satellite for a given bit-error-rate subject to the maximum beam power, which determines the relative fraction of the total time the signal is acquired for the two models. the simulation results of access control or power control based on urban multipath environment are also presented.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"135 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127595665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main interest of this paper is the application of MIMO (multiple-input-multiple-output) techniques in order to achieve high data rates in HSDPA. The capacity increase available from deploying MIMO systems is obtained via the potential decorrelation between the channel coefficients of the MIMO radio channel, which can be used to create several parallel sub-channels. Along with the MIMO technique, it is mandatory to provide a metric of the channel, to be transmitted in the feedback channel by the UE (user equipment), useful for the node B (UMTS base station) to adapt the downlink transmission rate.","PeriodicalId":368249,"journal":{"name":"IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Communications and Applied Computational Electromagnetics, 2005.","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133913356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
