In order to adapt to different wireless standards, future radios will need to be implemented in software form. Thanks to DSP and wireless technologies, today software modem radios for 2 and 2.5 G have already been implemented. In the Software Radio Defined project we aim to combine several wireless communications protocols like HiperLan/2, GPS and Bluetooth. Here, we have analyzed a GFSK modem used in Bluetooth technology. This work analyzes the performance of Bluetooth (GFSK) modulation and demodulation with an integrate-and-dump decision algorithm. A simulation model was built to measure the performance of each of these stages. A key feature of this modem is that it is designed thinking of a future DSP implementation. The modem fulfills the Bluetooth specifications based on the IEEE 802.15 standard.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133644906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The search algorithm finds the best sequence of codewords in the trellis representing the source sequence. The optimum trellis search is the Viterbi algorithm (VA). However for source coding applications, it becomes prohibitively complex. Hence, suboptimum search algorithms must be considered. The M algorithm is a suboptimum search whose performance is close to the optimum system. This algorithm retains the best M paths at every instant. Conventional architectures of this algorithm are impractical when the number of retained paths is large. In this paper new hardware architectures based on VA implementations are presented. Dividing the M algorithm into path metric updating and trace-back based survivor memory management procedures, efficient architectures can be achieved contributing to a significant reduction in the hardware complexity, which allows quantization systems with larger reproduction codebooks.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126259504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The letters are 5/spl times/3 cm black-painted objects randomly distributed in different places and orientations over a flat-surface white-painted table. We utilize a webcam device plus VFW video libraries in order to obtain the images corresponding to each letter. Thereafter, in order to be able to identify the letters, we use several digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms. Once the letter-recognition phase is finished, we command a virtual Cartesian robot to reorder the letters so that any arbitrary user preselected text may be formed and read. First, the quality of the image so obtained is improved by digital processing and then we perform a pattern recognition algorithm by using a method that we call digital signature based on a quadtrees image processing method. In addition to performing the letter recognition phase, we estimate the exact position and orientation of the given letter on the table. With this information, our virtual robot can proceed to reorder the letter as prescribed by the user. In order to visualize and optimize the movements of the Cartesian robot, we developed a 3D simulator based on the GLScene OpenGL library for Delphi.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126302947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, a growing number of commercial enterprises are redefining their business processes under this technology. The platform and language independence of Web services programming interfaces enables the seamless integration of heterogeneous Web based-systems. A business processes integration and monitoring system (BPIMS) has been developed to automate, integrate and monitor many of the enterprise business processes described as Web services (WS). Our main contribution consists in a brokering architecture to automate many of the enterprise business processes without resorting to large investments in software development and deployment. Our brokering architecture is based on a four-layer design that meets crucial design aspects like abstraction, scalability, interoperability and greater dynamism.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115527222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have developed a pure hardware-based system able to detect chains of letters and sounds to control the house environment with light, temperature and door locking devices among others. This application is divided into three parts, one for sensing and transducing, another for pattern detection and a final stage to generate an output. The first one is achieved roughly, using an electret microphone as the main sensing element. The second is a modular section in which we use PLLs and simple circuitry to detect the letters. Finally, the third involves power stages and signal generation for specific applications. Our application can be integrated to software systems to increase its visual appeal and interactivity with the user. The results gave us ideas to implement this kind of hardware interface in museums and augmented reality systems and improved with computer graphics interfaces in which, even if the low cost gain is lost, novelty and interactivity are surpassed. We have presented a new improved commercial system using analog and digital electronics to produce cheaper and innovative devices.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126807055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Regarding security, CAN currently supports only a special kind of data transfer service, namely safety, for error detection, signalling, and self checking. Nevertheless, as CAN has become more diverse, complex and integrated into other kinds of networks, it must provide higher security services, such as confidentiality, especially for its bus, which is the most attack-prone point on CAN. Taking into account, on one hand, the security services defined by ISO and, on the other hand, the security services defined by CAN, the paper proposes to incorporate a confidentiality service to CAN based on RC4, which is a lightweight symmetric stream cipher algorithm. The paper then presents the clock cycles required for encrypting different data sizes of the CAN frame in the 87C196CB, which is a microcontroller with integrated CAN 2.0 serial interface.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125492207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the earlier algorithms are either restricted to a class of geometric models, say convex polytopes, or are not fast enough for practical applications. We present a new algorithm for collision detection between general polygonal models. The algorithm makes use of hierarchical representations along with frame to frame coherence to rapidly detect collisions. It has been implemented as part of a motion planning package. In practice, it can accurately detect the contacts between large geometries composed of thousands of polygons at interactive rates.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124681990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
