Two algorithms to solve this problem were designed and compared. The typing problem consists of distinguishing all sequences using the least possible reagents. For each reagent, their capacity to distinguish between pairs of sequences is represented in a matrix and-then mapped to the set-covering problem. In (J. Lozano Yecora, MS Thesis. Uni. de las Americas, Puebla, Dept. of Comp. Science, 2004), a proof of the equivalence of this problem with the set covering problem is presented; here, the results of an exact algorithm to solve the set-covering problem are presented. This algorithm uses a branch and bound method based on some intuitive properties of the solution, applying recursion as the final resource. Two approximation algorithms were also implemented and tested. One is an improved greedy algorithm and the other is based on dynamic programming. Real as well as randomly created instances were used to test the algorithms.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130417896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The acceptance of this technique is based on the proposition of a set of heuristic rules for tuning the controller requiring information obtained from process measurements. The rules involving mathematical models for tuning have not had the same success because the mathematical model is not available in most cases nor the qualified staff to develop this kind of design. The intention of the presented article is to follow the approach proposed by Ziegler & Nichols to analyze integrating systems, maintaining the objective of providing a set of tuning rules obtained from the input and output signals. The difference from the previously proposed approach, which uses human experience to develop the set of rules, is the use of evolutionary algorithms for synthesizing the tuning rules.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122443308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This filter proposes a fuzzy adaptation algorithm which uses the reference signal and the error signal as inputs and the multiplication of the reference signal by the approximated weight as an output, which avoids the use of multiplication circuits for its implementation in VLSI. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive fuzzy filter outperforms the conventional LMS adaptive filter used for system identification with its faster convergence rate.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121949816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The denoising algorithms (i.e., universal threshold, minimax threshold and rigorous SURE threshold) have been used to remove white Gaussian noise from synthetic and real signals. The analysis is done by applying soft and hard thresholds to signals with different sample sizes. The mean squared error (MSE) is used to evaluate the performance of these algorithms. The results show that the rigorous SURE algorithm with a hard threshold has a better performance than other algorithms in synthetic signals. On the other hand, the universal threshold algorithm with a soft threshold shows the best performance in real signals when using the Daubechies wavelet with 5 vanishing moments.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131956978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We presents why an A-Prolog approach seems to be appropriated to explore in order to add the planning operation as an extension of a GIS. In order to achieve our objective, first we model the disaster scenario. The disaster scenario should be described as close as possible to the real problem. We define an action language, named ALEP, to model and give a solution to the evacuation plans. The syntax and semantics of ALEP are presented. Finally, we plan to test the expressiveness of the ALEP language, defining a DSS to model evacuation plans.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128695138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the navigation system is to increase the mobility of visually impaired pedestrians via remote guidance by a sighted person. In the 3G link performance assessment, tests were concentrated on the main 3G link characteristics: bandwidth, latency, link outages and packet losses. These link characteristics directly influence the navigation system performance.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116313710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
