An important tool to achieve the above is the Karnaugh-Vieth maps method. This method has been used for electronic engineering students. It gives a simple graphic layout that leads to a drastic reduction (although not exhaustive) for the final expression of moderate designs. One of the most important drawbacks of this method appears when there are more than 5 Boolean design variables. Here, the designed map becomes complex and susceptible to design errors. The present paper describes two simple and powerful methods for Boolean functions simplification for 5 or more variables: the variable entered maps (VEM) and the miniterms ring map (McCalla (1994)). A comparison between two mapping methods is also presented Finally, the importance of the use VEM and RMM in electronics engineering programs as tools for a previous step to learning, before taking or teaching advanced courses, where complex systems can be simplified, is shown.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121037740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although typical load histories are available, these files were obtained in other countries where the conditions of the ways and the operation of the vehicles are very different. In order to be able to obtain histories of loads in the conditions of our country, a system based on a wireless sensing modules network has been developed to measure deformations, temperature and accelerations in multiple points of the vehicle in real time. The obtained data of each sensor is prepared, processed, stored and transmitted in time intervals towards a receiver, which is in charge to send them to a Internet server for its storage, visualization and analysis for any user connected to the network who have accessibility to the collected information and can make the pertinent procedures and actions. In this work the design of the instrumentation system is based on a wireless sensing modules network and it uses the GPRS protocol which is based on GSM cellular technology, permitting us to send all the data received from each wireless module to the server host.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116509073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SA's major advantage over other methods is an ability to avoid becoming trapped at local minima. The SA algorithm does not require or deduce derivative information, it merely needs to be supplied with an objective function for each trial solution it generates. Thus, the evaluation of the problem functions is essentially a 'black box' operation as far as the optimization algorithm is concerned, which is the most convenient with large real systems such as electrical networks. The model is useful for planning and operating in primary distribution systems. Through different test network applications, the method was validated and compared to other proposed methods.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125881299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research is focused on the development and implementation of turbo coding-decoding algorithms in high-speed programmable platforms (DSP and FPGA) for a better performance in terms of error correction, power consumption and speed. The MAP (maximum a-posteriori probability) algorithm represents the best performance choice for turbo decoding block. The main objective of implementation is to design structures for turbo decoding near to the theoretical performance using sub-optimal architectures. In this work we present a hardware implementation of the log-domain version of the AMP algorithm (log-AMP). This version of the algorithm gives an excellent approach to the Shannon limits and allows the description of simple blocks based on arithmetic operators, like the MAX* operator.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"139 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127498075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We analyze capacity measurements at different Internet destinations. Particularly, we use the variable packet size (VPS) method to measure the per-hop capacity in some network paths. This method is based on round trip time (RTT) measurements as well as on the Internet control message protocol, ICMP. The RTT delay is approximated by a gamma distribution. We observe how the measurement accuracy of this active probing is affected by factors such as layer 2 device latencies, limited clock resolution at the probing host, or queuing delay. These factors cause non linearity on the RTT curves obtained and, consequently, inaccuracies on the estimation of path capacities. The use of robust regression to improve linear approximation in the VPS method is proposed. As a result, we obtain better qualitative and quantitative results.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123662931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A camera-computer system called SIVEDI was developed based in the shape from focusing technique (SFF) as proposed by Jenn (1997) and a shape from defocusing technique (SFD) developed in this research. The SIVEDI system has as entries the images captured by the camera, the number of steps of the focus mechanism, and the user specifications. The focus mechanism used is the internal one of the camera. To control it an interface computer-camera was designed and developed. An equation is introduced to obtain the measure of relative defocus among many images. A 3D image is produced as the result of the system. SIVEDI consist of a number of modules, each one implementing a step in the system model. The modules are independent of each other and could be easily modified to improve the system. As SIVEDI was developed in the MatLab environment, it can be used in any computer with this software on it. These characteristics offer the user access to the intermediate results and to control the system internal parameters. Results show that the 3D image reconstruction has an acceptable quality.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122190808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The need to continue in this pursuit is most pressing as the objectives for renewable energy generation imposed by the Kyoto Protocol, have been established. PV cells have evolved from thick film to thin film single layer cells, and from single film to multilayer cells, or tandem cells. Better knowledge of the sources of this over-optimism is necessary to improve realism in software development project bids and budgets. This paper analyses the effect of \"the winner's curse\". The winner's curse is a result of the selection of software providers among those with the lowest bid, i.e., those with a tendency towards the highest level of overoptimism. The winner's curse has not been extensively analyzed in software cost estimation studies, but is a well known phenomenon in domains such as auctioning. We exemplify the effect of the winner's curse with data from a real software development bidding round and simulate how increase in number of bidders and cost uncertainty impact the expected profit. We argue that the winners' curse is a problem for both clients and providers, and that it may lead to inefficient use of scarce resources. Possible remedies for reduction of negative effects of the winner's curse are discussed.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123772181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This inverter is composed of commutation cells ordered in p rows and n stacks, reducing semiconductor commutation stresses and high operation frequencies can be reached. This structure requires 2(pxn) switches to generate an output signal similar to a sinusoidal waveform. However, the switches must be correctly controlled. The most commonly used control technique has been the typical PWM. However, it is possible to generate a control scheme by FPGA technology. So, the control signals are established by the designer. This kind of control has been called patron control signals. In this paper, a complete mathematical analysis of the output voltage behavior for a 2/spl times/2 SMC, when the time index (/spl beta/) changes, is presented. In addition, simulation results are shown to validate the mathematical analysis.","PeriodicalId":367791,"journal":{"name":"15th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Computers (CONIELECOMP'05)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123518437","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
