However, when conducting experiments on the concentration of substances in the exhaust gas, the results show that the concentration of hydrocarbon in the tests has different effects. It is possible to see a sudden high hydrocarbon concentration at some point in time. Over time, the nozzle tip will gradually form ice around the nozzle due to LPG evaporation and heat collection. When forming large lumps, this ice will break off and move into the combustion chamber. A part of ice has not yet mixed with the air to create an explosive mixture, and the combustion process is not completed. The solution proposed is to use the method of heat transfer to the nozzle body by an electronic heating device. The experiment measured brake power at the wheel, fuel consumption, and concentration of pollutants in the exhaust gas according to each controlled temperature to supply to the nozzle body. With this result, a suitable nozzle supply temperature is selected to ensure that the engine achieves the most optimal power and fuel consumption and eliminates the phenomenon of abnormal hydrocarbon concentration. From the test results, 30OC is the most suitable temperature when adjusting the heating device around the nozzle.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47629364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Renewable energy is therefore included in Malaysia’s energy policy to diversify its energy resources. With 77% of Malaysia’s land directed for agriculture – particularly for palm oil plantation, biomass from agriculture industries is thus considered as a viable energy resource. In addition to palm oil plantation, 18.56 million hectares of Malaysia’s tropical forest contributed substantial wood waste from logging activity. Through gasification, these resources can produce syngas. This paper aims to demonstrate the potential of palm kernel shells (PKS) and wood waste (WW) to generate syngas using a downdraft fixed bed gasifier, which has a suitable oxidation zone temperature to support syngas production. Results showed that PKS and WW syngas consisted of 94.93% and 97.92% carbon monoxide (CO) respectively with low hydrogen (H2) gas contents. The lower heating values (LHV) from PKS and WW are 10.68 MJ/kg and 10.26 MJ/kg, respectively. It can be concluded that agricultural wastes such as PKS and WW had shown high potential to become an alternative source of energy in the form of syngas.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45537536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Public projects were suffering from bureaucracy and separation in work activities. Building Information Modeling (BIM) has demonstrated the potential for solving these issues. The study aims to investigate and analyze the cost-benefit analysis of using BIM compared to traditional methods in public construction projects in Iraq. Therefore, the study evaluated Multiple case studies of two projects quantitatively and conducted several interviews with 15 experts to determine the cost-benefit of adopting BIM compared to conventional methods. The study investigated the benefits of BIM in construction projects due to the remarkable difference between the two methods. The quantitative data of study findings revealed a significant cost improvement using BIM rather than the traditional method in public projects. To conclude, multi-cultural studies need to assess the projects' performance of large and small entities. Furthermore, this research suggested incorporating BIM adoption in government organizations in a wide range.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42332108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the difficulty of test requirements for this type of concrete, a predicting model is useful and can be used to derive the optimum design mix. Different mixtures with varying cement, water, and superplasticizer content were created using a central composite design. A full quadratic model was chosen for all dependent variables considered such as flowability, passing ability, resistance to segregation, 28th-day compressive strength, and flexural strength. Water is the only significant factor that affects all of the rheological properties and compressive strength. Mixtures with high superplasticizer and water content show high segregation and bleeding but yield high compressive strength. Surface response and interaction profiles are developed to help the user of the models in modifying their design mix. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to derive the optimum. The derived optimum design mix is as follows, cement is 483.72kg, 250kg for the water, and 1% for the superplasticizer The optimum design mix of SCC has a desirability of 0.812. The optimum design yield passing slump flow of 609.22mm (>550mm passing), passing l-box of 0.915 (>0.80 passing), -0.962% which can be assumed as equal to zero (<15% passing), 41.79Mpa for compressive strength and 10.33Mpa for flexural strength. The optimum design passes all rheological requirements and has acceptable compressive and flexural strengths. Although the mixture has high water content, this is due to the requirement of rheology. Low superplasticizer content is ideal for limiting segregation and bleeding.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48704264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study involved fabricating mortars wherein sand was substituted by volumes of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% with three types of EPA (EPA A, EPA B, and EPA Coarse). Results showed that EPA-mortars can meet the ASTM compressive strength requirement of 17.2 MPa. The sample attained its greatest compressive strength of 29.19 MPa, which is nearly equal to the control sample strength of 29.42 MPa, upon replacing sand with 60% by volume of EPA A. In comparison to the control mortar density of 2055 kg/m3, Type M EPA mortar density can drop as low as 1422 kg/m3, which is a 30.8% decrease. Additionally, it was observed that EPA microstructure played a role in the resulting mortar compressive strength. Mortars with the highly absorbent EPA Coarse were found to have less compressive strength than mortars that used EPA A, which has a lower capacity for absorption and more intact microstructure.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46696843","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to its excellent physical and mechanical properties, bacterial cellulose is increasingly interested in research, especially in the study of applying BC in different fields. Although it is a potential direction, the large-scale production of BC still has certain limitations, mainly the fermentation medium's high cost. Therefore, this study used pineapple waste as a carbon source for BC fermentation. After investigating the influence of fermentation factors on BC yield, this study focused on evaluating the crystallinity of BC under different fermentation conditions. The X-ray diffraction technique was used to determine the crystallinity, while Scanning Electron Microscopy was used to assess the differentiation of the BC structure. The study results showed that, at different fermentation conditions of temperature (25–35°C), time (5–10 days), and bacterial concentration (5–15%), the bacterial cellulose crystallinity was significantly different and in the range of 40.6 % to 83.4 %. The optimum crystallinity of BC was recorded when the experiment was set up at the fermentation temperature of 30°C, 13 days of fermentation time, and bacterial concentration of 14%, with the BC crystallinity being 82.2%.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45449005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, there was a need to reduce waste by using by-products from industrial waste to replace cement, such as limestone, fly ash, silica fume, steel slag, and other minerals known as supplementary cementitious materials are produced environmentally and sustainably. This paper's purpose is to design a green mortar with the highest possible replacement of cement that has acceptable fresh and hardened characteristics. In this paper, three (SCMs), such as limestone powder (10%), calcined clay (0–35%), and slag (0–30%), were used to prepare ternary mixtures. The materials used in this research are available locally in Mosul, Iraq. The experimental studies were carried out for twelve mixes. The tests of flowability, flexural strength, compressive strength, dry density, ultrasonic pulse velocity, and water absorption on green mortar have been conducted. The cement was replaced 30% to 60% with a combination of ternary cement containing calcined clay, limestone, and slag in different replacement percentages than in other green mortar mixes. The results found that replacing OPC (30%), which contains 10% limestone, 10% steel slag, and 10% calcined clay, gives the highest compressive strength and flexure strength enhancement, which are 24% and 18% greater than the plain mortar after 28 days. When cement replacement was increased for ternary mixes, the result differed slightly from the plain mortar. Water absorption increased as the SCMs were increased. Dry density showed little effect.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47786067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims to analyze the effect of adopting the Rapidly Emerging Technology Items (RETIs) during the development process phase of the Systems Engineering approach. Subject matter experts were surveyed with various qualitative questions. Purposeful sampling was used in choosing participants who were \"information-rich.\" Therefore, the individuals and sites selected should be knowledgeable people who have experience in engineering projects' technical and managerial aspects. Referring to the pattern of the data and the author's reflexivity, five themes were identified in this paper, including the problem validation, design professionality, the drivers of the Rapidly Emerging Technology Items (RETIs), the technology type, interaction between the design organization and the RETIs drivers, and the tool for evaluating the rapidly emerging technologies. The analysis of the themes revealed that, due to the adoption of RETIs, the design organization needs to re-define the requirements, re-verify and re-validate the System-Of-Interest (SOI), which leads to longer time in system design and increases the allocated budget. Finally, improvement interventions are required to ensure that RETIs are adopted efficiently throughout the development phase.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42928646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One alternative that can be used as an effort to prevent abrasion is to take advantage of pneumatophore and litter of the Avicennia marina mangrove. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Avicennia marina pneumatophore and litter for attenuating sea waves. The applied research methods were Transect-squared, Spot-check, and Sondani methods. The measurement of wave data employed SBE 26Plus and RBRDuo T.D. They were carried out at 5 stations with thicknesses of 3 m, 5 m, 10 m, 20 m, and 50 m respectively. The obtained raw data was then processed and the largest value of pneumatophore was produced at STA 1. The mangrove was able to attenuate the energy as much as 50% with the ratio of pneumatophore + litter + other factors = 14,93% + 16,44% + 18,63%. At STA 2, the attenuated energy was 54% with a ratio of 10,36% + 7,08% + 36,55%. At STA 3, the attenuated energy was 83% with a ratio of 5,43% + 2,29% + 75,28%. At STA 4, 91% of the energy was attenuated with a ratio of 4,22% + 1,05% + 85,73%. The farthest mangrove, at STA 5, attenuated the energy as much as 92%, with a ratio of 3,90% + 0,48% + 87,62%. It is safe to infer that the suppression of wave energy by pneumatophore and litter on the coast has the greatest effectiveness as the pneumatophore releases optimal bending power and the litter bears the smallest porosity value, while such other factors as large trees, core trees, seedlings, piles, sedimentation, and twigs dominate are more dominant as the mangrove thickness increases.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42984390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The milli-fluidics are currently lacking in studies of the relationship between fluid viscosity, output velocity and output pressure. Thus, this study examines the effects of viscosity on fluid dynamics in the co-axial and tri-axial milli-fluidics. This geometry of the co-axial and tri-axial milli-fluidics consist of single outlet, two inlets and three inlets, respectively. The tri-axial milli-fluidics is 46 mm long and 11.31 mm wide, while, the coaxial milli-fluidic is 64.73 mm long and 9.2 mm wide. The co-axial milli-fluidics constituted of 775 domain elements and 147 boundary elements, while, the tri-axial milli-fluidics mesh constituted of 1518 domain elements and 178 boundary elements.  Laminar flow was observed for the flow of the materials through the channels. When the dynamic viscosity approaches 5 mPa.s, the simulation reveals that the flow rate is inversely proportional to the dynamic viscosity for co-axial milli-fluidics. It was difficult to combine fluids with different viscosities with small volume of water in a narrow boundary, thus the parallel flow of material was observed. When using the one outlet channel for the tri-axial milli-fluidics, the assemble pressure at the three inlets was decreased compared with co-axial milli-fluidic. Even when the dynamic velocity of the fluid at outlet 1 increased, its velocity remained consistent. An extruder using tri-axial milli-fluidics can be used if the interfacial tension for intake 1 is higher than for inlet 2 and the dynamic viscosity of fluid 1 is above 2 mPas, according to the volumetric fraction model. The tri-axial milli-fluidic was found to be suitable for producing cladding of material with the balanced pressure from the two side channels.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46778286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
