To estimate NPP, light use efficiency (LUE) model using normalized differential vegetation index (NDVI) has been used mainly. NDVI is obtained from red and near-infrared channels only, however, recent sensors onboard satellites always have hyper-multi-spectral channels; In order to use these data effectively, which include more details about land cover, a vegetation index based on pattern decomposition method (VIPD) has been set up to estimate NPP. The present study used 2001 Terra/MODIS (moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer) data for the Kii Peninsula, which is mainly covered by temperate forest. To validate the proposed method, we compared the satellite data-based NPP values for the evergreen with values derived from land-survey data. The proposed method estimated the annual NPP of a temperate forest on Yoshino Mountain to be 1.52plusmn0.39 kg CO2/m2/year, which agreed with the ground-survey result of 1.50plusmn0.75 kg CO2/m2/year, within the algorithm error. An average zonal NPP of 1.55plusmn0.40 kg CO2/m2/year was calculated for the whole land region from 32deg30' to 36deg24' N latitude, 134deg30' to 137deg06' E longitude with an area of 3.94 times 104 km2.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117222742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem is also obvious in star-background images, which necessitate distortion correction for subsequent analysis. In this paper, a new method based on star- point matching is proposed to extract and match automatically control points in star-background images. We acquire automatically control point pairs using point matching between points in pre-corrected image and points in ideal image which relies on the catalog. This work extends applied domain of Hausdorff Distance (HD) which is one of commonly used measures for object matching. In our experiments, least Trimmed Square HD (LTS-HD) was used in point matching, and the result is effective.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123952585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm builds up basic strips based on the vertex chains of the original strips at first. The information of redundant edges is implicit hence the only information need to encode is about absent edges. The proposed algorithm provides a new representation that is guaranteed to encode connectivity information of any meshes in less than 2 bits/T, and in 1.2 bits/T on average in the experiment results using FTSG. In the experiments, the method was proved to have good performance.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129689543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the computational complexity of multi-reference frames motion estimation (MRME) is increased in proportion to the number of searched reference frames. This paper presents a novel scheme to reduce the complexity of MRME. In order to speed up the MRME process, the following factors such as frame rate, motion activity and search range are considered. Experiment results verify that the proposed algorithm can reduce the number of reference frame from 5 to 1.6 and save the MRME time by 90.2% on average respectively with little degradation of coding efficiency.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129364003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the paper, an automatic video abstraction method is developed based on relational graph representations. Firstly, a relational graph is constructed for all the frames in a video sequence. Secondly, the graph is partitioned into different connected subgraphs. Thirdly, Isomap is performed to reduce the dimensionality of the data set, and the output of Isomap is used as feature vector of the video frames. Lastly, a mixture model with model selection is introduced to generate the fine grain video abstraction with the centre of each clustering as the keyframes. Experiments are conducted on real world video sets with satisfying video abstraction results.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130224983","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a statistical structure analysis based tumor segmentation scheme is presented, which focuses on the structural analysis on both tumorous and normal tissues. Firstly, 3 kinds of features including intensity-based, symmetry-based and texture-based are extracted from structural elements. Then a classification technique using AdaBoost that learns by selecting the most discriminative features is proposed to classify the structural elements into normal tissues and abnormal tissues. Experimental results on 140 tumor-contained brain MR images achieve an average accuracy of 96.82% on tumor segmentation.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123276895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main idea is to enhance the tissue structure and also smooth the speckle regions adoptively from pre-defined filters with certain filter characteristics. The criterion of speckle region is defined from a similarity value obtained from histogram matching between the histogram in the processing window and a reference one derived from a speckle area. Big similarity values means speckle pixels needed smoothing from lowpass filtering, and small values correspond to structure pixels which will be enhanced by highpass filters. All these filters can be implemented as dynamic filtering whose index is the similarity value for adoptively smoothing speckle for contrast enhancement or enhancing structure for better edge/boundary detection. Test images show that our new method can enhance tissue structure and also reduce speckle for better image quality.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116057191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The recently proposed DVC scheme using Low-Density-Parity-Check-Accumulate (LDPCA) code with hash-based motion estimation at the decoder has achieved very good performance. However, there is still a performance gap compared with conventional video coding schemes. In this paper, we propose a scheme using a full search for side-information to obtain the best possible side- information at the decoder without hash or other extra bits, thus improving the coding efficiency. The simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme with better rate-distortion performance compared with the original hash-based LDPCA scheme.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123830989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
